  • Valley of Dreams (short story) by Stanley G. Weinbaum
Two weeks before the Ares is scheduled to leave Mars, Captain Harrison sends American chemist Dick Jarvis and French biologist "Frenchy" Leroy to retrieve the film Jarvis took before his auxiliary rocket crashed into the Thyle highlands the week before.
Along the way, the Earthmen stop at the city of the cart creatures and the site of the pyramid-building creature for Leroy to take some samples. After picking up the film canisters from the crashed rocket at Thyle II, the two men fly east to Thyle I to look for signs of the birdlike Martian, Tweel.
"Valley of Dreams" was Weinbaum's second published story and is a sequel to his first story, "A Martian Odyssey"

Lovecraft actually loved Weinbaums work and gave it some of his highest praise. And remeber Lovecraft was always delighted when someone used one of his creations in another work

@@unclecrusty5476 Lovecraft wasn't above taking inspiration from others. Take his story 'The Doom That Came To Sarnath' and it's incredible similarities or liberal "inspiration" to the boat story from 'A Dreamers Tales' by Lord Dunsany it's called Idle Days on the Yann

Why is Mars almost always the go to planet? Seems like we've known for many years that it's pretty barren . I like stories about the moon just Seems more feasible to me to have colonies on the moon but of course it's not a natural made moon anyway it's actually a hollow sphere with a fully built space base inside. 🤪

LMAO, anarchy being the best form of governance. Definitely not for any intelligent creature whether Earthling or Martian.

Honestly it is just so dumb. It is really the dumbest. I do agree that the best government is the one that governs least, but no government is dumb.

Anarchy is the hardest idea of governance to grasp -

@@tgdomnemo5052 Anarchy just creates a power vacuum for someone to fill and institute their own form of governance. That's exactly why there has never been a successful and long lasting anarchy comprised of more than a handful of people.
