I have flown with several of these guys. They all got big balls. One time one landed me on a rough gravel bar in about fifty feet. After dumping me he turned back down the runway and prepared too fly up against the hill where I was standing and he was ten feet high when he passed me. I puckered, he was on the throttle all he could when he cleared the bank on the other side of the little river. He was twenty feet above it, maybe! He banked left up the canyon and just had enough to finally get some air. In a couple minutes he came back over me and dropped a book out. I went after it and started looking in it. Ah there was a note scribbled there. Get up river a mile (through the trash vegetation, oh crap). Too much weight to carry he was bringing my buddy into a strip upriver at that strip. I had about an hour before dark. It was a struggle but I made it just in time.

@@josephhartmann7744 There was a TV commercial in the USA a few years back by Holiday Inn Express where they'd have someone that might be piloting a jet airliner and he'd say something like. "I'm not a pilot, but I did stay and a Holiday Inn Express last night". Suggesting that the rest they got at the hotel was so good he could fly a airline or something. There were lots of iterations on that. Maybe someone would be teaching Calculus and not really a teacher but they'd say the same thing. "I'm not really a Calculus teacher but......" A stupid commercial, really.

What a GREAT story! First time listening to your channel, and a new subscriber as of NOW...
PS*... As a pilot for more than 40 years at this, AND having done some bush flying myself, (and bush flying being my favorite kind of flying) had made this story all the enjoyable for me!!
PPS*. If it had been an viable option, I would have been bush flying my entire career!! BUT, (at least in the days when I was doing it) bush flying jobs were very often seasonal, and difficult to get and were relatively low paying jobs. Many of the jobs required you also be a licensed air craft mechanic in addition to being a first rate pilot! Well, thats a pretty rare combination for good pilots to possess. So some pilots good enough polots good snough to aurvive the difficult flying, went to school to get certified as an A& P mechanic. And they'd usually be mediocre mechanics as best, because they only sis the schooling to het the job to fly!
Also at the time, there were no "good companies" flying numerous aircraft requiring numerous pilots. Some places even asked for me to supply them the aircraft, meaning, I own the aircraft I flew for them.
So, while none of these things is terrible on its own, (except the years of mechanic school and apprenticeship) all of them combined was just ridiculous to undertake just to get a job that was basically part time, with low pay, and with no guarantee of flying hours to get paid for etc etc..
From what I've heard things have gotten much better these days. I sure hope so for the pilots out there now days.
Hell, if its really improved like Ive heard, maybe I'll take a flight up there and take a season job or good part time job now! I could afford to do that at this point in my life.
So while I lived bush flying with a passion, did it for a short time, ultimately I had to come back and do more conventional types of flying, everything from an instructor, to charter, to midnight run mail-drops, to a Captain in the airline industry.
But of all of those, which a couple were better than the rest, my real love of flying has always been best filled when I was bush flying. To me, that's what "REAL" flying is, and it requires the highest skilled pilots out there to be successful at it for any length of time. 👍👍👍

yeah, I always wonder when I hear stories like this. Especially given how little that is known about this "alien" life. If you encountered it, would it be right to to take it back and show it where the rest of the food/humans are? This question or one not unlike it might have to be asked for real when the first "Martians" contract the "Martian flu" for the first time. If we don't know what it is but we do know that no one has any immunity to it, would it be right to bring it back home where there are billions who have no resistance to it?

Despite it being "just a plane", I appreciated the care and character development given to Maggie.
While the story itself and the narration itself were both undeniably flawed, the overall presentation was servicable and at times quite engaging. I would listen again to more of these surreal adventures of the north. Thank you.

As a child who avidly read Biggles, I wanted to be a bush pilot flying a beaver. Beavers are incredibly rugged and reliable aircraft.

Lived in Wyoming for 45 years. Now northern Michigan. I too don't know what I was thinking? But 8 9f my 15 gkids live nearby now. I understand what you mean n feel dude. We often think things will be better then other problems develop n we're stuck in the sand pit till death.

@tyclark8162 I didn't move here thinking it was better, I came down years ago to be with my late father who died of cancer, I met my wife and our kids were born here, we both hate it here, but, she has a great paying job and our kids are all living not far from us, we would like to move up just north of Ocala, really small town and little population, for now anyway, we are just north of Tampa, Florida is getting crowded

@@woofman4796 woofman, I don't blame you a damn bit. My brother lives Daytona or something like that n loves it. But he's well off n has AC. Goes north alot in summer months. He's tried to get me down there, but I am like you it sounds like. I'd miss my gkids too much. As long as I can live in the woods n crawl into n out of my bobcat I guess I can't complain. I was forced into retirement at 48. Not as fun as most would like. Thankfully I saved $$$ n made investments. Now I am down to very little n I am a bit scared to be honest. I never expected to live this long nor have gkids in my life. Suppose some would say I am lucky, n I realize I am very blessed. I get to see them every Monday for a cook off at gpas n gmas. Gma isn't doing so well, but she's a orneryn stubborn lady.
What do u do in that hot weather? Too hot to jersey or fish for sure. Our community is a city to myself, as Wyoming you could find a place to hide if you wanted. I muss camping n fishing with my dogs in grizzly n wolves environment. Deed end road n few know its there, backside of Yellowstone NP. That campsite was my favorite, noone came due to bears. If they left me c alone I gave them the same. My shotgun n SnW 500 mag pistol are very lonely today.
Did you once have a wolf up in Maine? I have been there a few times but not for very long. Rugged country I recall. I hated rattlesnakes n the windy Wyoming breeze. Although it kept alot of people there, too windy for most people. I miss my brookie fishing the most, n being able to ride my 4 wheeler just about every where. But they have slowly closing trails as the utility vehicles became a big problem n wrecked it for everyone. Its like that here too. I have 40 acres, but I generally use it with my gkids.
If you don't mind me asking, what made you move down there n are you really stuck there? There's a ton of rich widows in Florida I be willing to bet. But $$$ doesn't buy you happiness, but it sure could help alot imho. I once was married to a wealthy girl, n that was her whole life besides our boys. Once we were done raising our boys she was done with me too. The dangers of someone with $$$ can leave you broken n 💔. If I had to do over, I'd head off to the Philippines n find me a sweetheart wife n be happy with her. They make wonderful wives I've been told. American women are fkn bitches n selfish women. Not all, but atleast 90% of them. Later dude, Ty

@@woofman4796 My apologies woofman, I just saw this post. You're in good shape if she has a high $$$ job. I understand your decision with your dad n kids. Northern Michigan isn't too bad a place. I moved from Wyoming, I wasn't sure how I'd react with my xwife doing any swinging dice that came around. Not saying she did, but I definitely knew it wouldn't be a good day. Better to move vs prison time. She was a wonderful wife n mother, she just changed into some one I never saw coming.
I am not totally sure if she wasn't a alien hybrid n I am not joking about that. Reasons I rather not say here. God, we had such a fun life with boys growing up. Snowboarding almost every weekend, fishing n camping n jetboat, 4 wheeling ect... Then at 48 I was forced into retirement. Guess she had enough of me being laid up. Was on Fentanyl patches for 5yrs n it destroyed my entire life. It got to where I was going through withdrawals every other day n was a living hell for myself. She was extremely patient watching me die n made sure I would. Called my life insurance policies n I got so pissed I foolishly canceled them all. Veryyy stupid I know, but I didn't know what to do n noone to talk to.
Enough of that. Bet taxes are high down there? Property tax is $2500 a year here. But we have a nice home in the woods, bear, turkeys, bobcats, foxes, deer n a few elk even. It can get cold here, but generally liveable imho. Wind doesn't blow like Wyoming. Most folks live outside town, lots of open country. I walk outside n shoot my gun n even piss. But if you live out here in the woods, you gotta have something to keep your drive way open. We have alot of timber n hills n mostly sandy. If I like it here, that's saying allot. I probably have the most rigged Hobie PA14 kayak in the entire world. I love fishing when everyone heads in. Very peaceful at night. I am a bit shake standing up, but the front bar holds something to hang onto. I have out riggers but generally don't use them. I pack enough that if a storm comes suddenly I can pull out on land n spend the night. I have done so once. My kayak you can pedal forward n backwards n have a electric motor on aft if needed. There's a few lakes where the ducks will literally get in my kayak. So having the power blows them away if I see em coming. If you like to fish its not a bad place to live. My oldest boy ice fishes but doesn't like taking me cuz I took too long walking back n was afraid I'd die on him. His birth dad died with his mom n himself n his karate students on a mountain workout. So I understand, but it hurts some. Maybe this year be different. I've been making myself walk some. I do ok if I can sit down a bit. Ice fishing is alot of fun with gkids. But if they whine they can't go. I best let ya go,,, Ty
