Raducanu trained hard and heavy for this season-she should not have had physical issues in the third, but she does gravitate toward drama when things don’t go her way. We’ve seen it frequently. In her favor, she finished the match and her game should get stronger as she gets more matches. The tour needs her, but she has to stay healthy and just grind it out week after week, forgetting all expectations as much as she can. She is certainly capable of winning tour titles. You don’t win 10 matches in a row without dropping a set and win a major at 18 by luck.. anyone who says otherwise is a moron 😂 (like the clown above) It’s quite simple to understand what happened, nobody really knew her then so they were unsure how to play her, now they do and because she has a few notable areas to exploit (she doesn’t have a strong serve, her fitness/physicality is poor and she doesn’t get consistent depth on her groundstrokes) they know how to beat her, and until Emma addresses those her results won’t change. Her natural talent is very evident, but she needs to address those areas first. If she does, her results will change significantly.

I might be an Emma fan but if she is beaten on the day by someone who managed the game or conditions or just played better then well done and so well done Yafan Wang. Wang was a real fighter and I understand she has played mostly at ITF circuit so these R1 & R2 wins will be great for her and financially rewarding which is also great. It was painful to see Raducanu looking like she needed to be sick so soon after the 3rd set got underway as she had just won the 2nd and I thought momentum maybe now on her side. Anyway bigger scalps than Emma have fallen already at this years AO with some great match ups to come.

In 2021 the WTA's already high inconsistency went up to the highest ever levels with the Covid disruptions to training, travel and the tour itself. You can see this at the 2021 French Open also with a random lineup at the semi final stage. Raducanu got a run at the US Open as a result. Fernandez actually beat much better players than her to get to the final. Even watching then her game seemed pretty limited to me to be honest. The lighter balls that used to be used at the US Open helped her also (gave her shots more zip). Those balls are gone now. She is not and never was a real Top 10 player imo and never will be. She still has never even won a single set off a Top 10 player.

Emma definitely should be proud of the way she played during her comeback season after such a long layoff and especially in the third set and could have won when she was physically sick as well due to a stomach bug. Next time,Wang will face a very different Emma, the main thing as Emma said afterwards is that she's physically fine with no issues with either her wrists or ankles...she would have taken that from the start of the year after a couple of tournaments in, anything else is just a bonus!

She must learn how Novak remains calm and manages winning from match points. But having won one major and still this kind of attitude is very strange. Emma Raducanu went through injury hell last year + 9 months off to playing 2 energy sapping 3 setter’s against Elina S + Wang! It takes time and patience to get back up to the top! Wang was throwing everything at Emma making it physically tough!! Haters will type nonsense but did Emma QUIT? NO! did Emma Retire? NO NO NO!! Through the OFFICIAL Stomach bug that wasn’t Made up she showed true grit determined to carry on no matter what do or die tennis! “ no way I was gonna quit she would have to beat me and she did”😎 POW! If you look at the final point, for those who have a basic understanding of tennis, Wang very much moved into the shot that Raducana had to make. You see it all the time, if a player won't concede the point when they are that close at the net, then the other player has no choice but to blast the ball at them. Looks like Emma at the last fraction of a second reacted to seeing that Wang was in the way, and pulled the shot and hit the net. At that point in the game Emma was very much still in the game and a point there was very big.

Raducanu is just too frail for top tier WTA Tour match level play! She never got beyond 3rd round in the last 2 years on the tour in major tournaments like GS and 1,000 level events. Emma is always either injured or sick after playing two matches in a roll! I do not think pro tennis going forward is a good choice for her health wise.
