    Thanks for posting.

    • @sharathyadav954
      @sharathyadav954 5 лет назад +6

      That's OK, but it's still possible to tame those chicks, whenever you get time handle them few times a day, very importantly after 18 days of old. They'll be very social with humans since young so tame as well.

      @@sharathyadav954 The parents wont reject it if I take the baby out it to handle it & put it back? Or how should it done? I want them to be tame but I don't want to feed them because I don't know how to

    • @sharathyadav954
      @sharathyadav954 4 года назад +2

      @@kimberlygomez4310 No, parents won't rejected them. If those chicks are above 16 days old, you can handle them twice a day morning & evening for 5-10 minutes. Later handle them 3/4 times a day after 25 days old till they become self. Remember once they understood you're not their threat, they'll think you're a part of their family & love to be with you. so be very gentle & empathetic. All the best👍💯 ☺ please let me know how it goes ☺

    Hello, just wanted to say thank you for posting this video because it helped me alot when i got my lovebird. But I have a question, my luvvy is 6 weeks now and is only wanting formula, I've been putting fresh fruit and veggies and also pellets and a seed mix with millet too but he won't consider it. Do u have any advice on what I can to so I can start weaning him? I'm scared he's going to always be dependant on the formula! Thanks for taking the time if u get to read this!

      Just received one from a friend, he said it’s on 8 weeks he said still need to hand feed until he rejects the formula. Today I tried to fed him but I didn’t know it should be fed like this fast push/press on the syringe as it might choke him. So i just press the syringe little by little like drops on his mouth. And not much.... maybe just 5cc. Is that ok?

    • @katelynaltimus5339
      @katelynaltimus5339 7 лет назад

      hello :) I am a lovebird owner and I just want to say do not put those birds together. At all. They may be tame or whatever but the cockatiel can kill the lovebirds. When a lovebird has baby, no you do not have to take out the male and I would suggest not to. He feeds the female while she is laying on the eggs, he takes care of her while she takes care of the young. The average number of eggs they can have is 4-6, but you can get more or less.

      Pull out the baby birds at 3 weeks of age to hand feed them every 4 hrs from 6 am until 11 Pm. Make sure their crops are empty before you give them formula. This will ensure that the baby doesn't get sick from bacteria. ☺️

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  4 года назад

      They are only supposed to be on formula for 8 weeks, you need to place their food on the bottom of the cage so they can start foraging. Place newspaper on the bottom, a dish with water and spread the seeds or pallets around with a millet treat. YOU MUST NOT REUSE THE FORMULA ONCE IT'S BEEN MIXED, it could cause crop infection. Never feed them formula while the crop still have food.

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  8 лет назад +2

      You can only hand feed the babies after they are 3 weeks of age. They need the nutrients that the parents provide them in the first 3 weeks. Because this is your first time feeding baby birds I suggest you watch a lot of videos on how to hand feed. Also start to hand feed your babies when they are 5 weeks of age and do 4 feedings a day. 7 am, 12 Pm, 5 PM and 11 Pm.

    when you are done feeding them do you put them back with the parents or keep them in a brooder/incubator?

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  7 лет назад

      I keep them in a brooder, pet carrier covered with a blanket or towel.

    • @karaflynn22
      @karaflynn22 7 лет назад +1

      Lovebird Nursery is it a diy brooder? Or did you buy it?

    • @karaflynn22
      @karaflynn22 7 лет назад +2

      Lovebird Nursery and what do you use as a heat source?

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  7 лет назад +1

      I just place them in a carrier and cover the top with a blanket.

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  7 лет назад +1

      Once you cover the carrier with a blanket, the babies keep each other warm, when they are 2 - 3 weeks of age I place a stuffed animal in the carrier so they can sleep under it if they get cold.

      Looks like a regular meat thermometer if I were you I'd go to a pet store and get a reptile thermometer for the brooder to constantly monitor the temp and an actual thermometer for taking the temps of people for the formula, its more accurate

    How warm is the room u have them in ?

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  3 года назад +1

      Any room of your house and whatever temp that if comfy for you is for them because they stay in their little crib thing. They keep each other warm, I place a baby blanket over the crib brooder too.

      If he is refusing formula and seems lethargic then vet right away. When symptoms appear you dont usually have a lot of time to get them help, birds like to hide it, and this is especially concerning if its only a 4 1/2 week baby. Find a vet that either works on birds a decent amount or is specifically an avian vet (those are better)

    How do you know before feeding if their crop is definitely empty

    • @yaqubssuperworld9376
      @yaqubssuperworld9376 4 года назад +1

      You can tell by looking at the crop,. It wont be like a bump..

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  4 года назад +2

      Touch it! You can pinch the crop gentle. If you keep them on a feeding schedule you will know too.

    How do you know when to stop feeding them

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  4 года назад +2

      I give then 3 siringes of 3 cc. The male babies tend to eat less than the females, when they are full they also tend to back away from the food.That usually happens when they are over 6 weeks old.

    What can I do if my 6 week baby love bird won’t eat from the syringe? Is there a way to help her want to eat? :(

    • @LovebirdNursery
      @LovebirdNursery  4 года назад +1

      Hi, Marie. Maybe, the baby is a little older than 6 weeks? Maybe it's a male and they eat a lot less than the females. Maybe you have a little female bird and females develop a little faster than the males (less needy) lol...Whatever the reason, don't panic! Try to feed the baby bird regular seeds, pellets and never forget the millets! Millets are important to give them at this age.Cover the floor of the cage with newspaper and then place the food on the bottom so the baby can start foraging for food on it's own. Make sure you start the baby bird with canary seed/pellet mix. Best of luck!

    • @christophergreene7957
      @christophergreene7957 6 лет назад

      Slowly get him used to you, chances are the little guy wasn't hand raised or hasnt been handled in quite some time at least. Start off by just sticking your hand in the cage to show you arent a threat do not attempt to touch the bird and dont shove your hand in its face. You can also offer treats like seed from your hand to get the bird to associate you with something good and be less reluctant. Its a long process but do some more research, offer seeds out of hand, and work on getting the bird to approach you, do not force this.
