Hello, just wanted to say thank you for posting this video because it helped me alot when i got my lovebird. But I have a question, my luvvy is 6 weeks now and is only wanting formula, I've been putting fresh fruit and veggies and also pellets and a seed mix with millet too but he won't consider it. Do u have any advice on what I can to so I can start weaning him? I'm scared he's going to always be dependant on the formula! Thanks for taking the time if u get to read this!
Just received one from a friend, he said it’s on 8 weeks he said still need to hand feed until he rejects the formula. Today I tried to fed him but I didn’t know it should be fed like this fast push/press on the syringe as it might choke him. So i just press the syringe little by little like drops on his mouth. And not much.... maybe just 5cc. Is that ok?
I need help today I got a baby love bird the breader I got the bird from told me he knew how to hand feed but it seems he don't everytime I try to feed him he doesn't open his mouth I have to open his mouth and forcefully give it to him not so hard of course and if I put him down and try to feed him he run away or go under my legs or in my sister pants or he just sit still and close his eyes and he's calmer than the first bird I used to have what should I do is this normal
im a little lazy so i let momma and daddy bird do all the feeding. even if i tried, i wont able to due to my work schedules. thats why most of my birds are not well tame.
That's OK, but it's still possible to tame those chicks, whenever you get time handle them few times a day, very importantly after 18 days of old. They'll be very social with humans since young so tame as well.
@@sharathyadav954 The parents wont reject it if I take the baby out it to handle it & put it back? Or how should it done? I want them to be tame but I don't want to feed them because I don't know how to
@@kimberlygomez4310 No, parents won't rejected them. If those chicks are above 16 days old, you can handle them twice a day morning & evening for 5-10 minutes. I love your channel!!!!!Whats the formula called that you use ? And when my lovebirds have chicks do i really need a brooder or can i just put them in a box and cover them up?
Lovebird Nursery thanks i am in the uk. Will i need a brooder ? Or can i just put them in a carrier like you have done and then cover them up with a towel?
Hey when is a good a good time to take the baby's from the nest I have hand raised budgies not lovebird it's my 1st time but don't no when to take them out of the nest
From what I understood after doing research on it you should wait until they are at least 2 weeks old. Having my first nest of lovies for the first time too (4 eggs under mommies belly now), and I wasn't sure either.
Pull out the baby birds at 3 weeks of age to hand feed them every 4 hrs from 6 am until 11 Pm. Make sure their crops are empty before you give them formula. This will ensure that the baby doesn't get sick from bacteria. ☺️
how long is the formula good for once it is made? also my lovebirds are 11 weeks but i still find myself hand feeding them.....i have introduced egg food and seeds with fruits to them but they seem to be wanting to be hand fed regardless i also give them millet sprays
They are only supposed to be on formula for 8 weeks, you need to place their food on the bottom of the cage so they can start foraging. Place newspaper on the bottom, a dish with water and spread the seeds or pallets around with a millet treat. YOU MUST NOT REUSE THE FORMULA ONCE IT'S BEEN MIXED, it could cause crop infection. Never feed them formula while the crop still have food.
Can you put a lovebird with a small cocatail in the same cage? And do you have to remove the male lovebird from the female while laying on eggs? Thank you for your time. Be Blessed. How many eggs can they lay ?
hello :) I am a lovebird owner and I just want to say do not put those birds together. At all. They may be tame or whatever but the cockatiel can kill the lovebirds. When a lovebird has baby, no you do not have to take out the male and I would suggest not to. He feeds the female while she is laying on the eggs, he takes care of her while she takes care of the young. The average number of eggs they can have is 4-6, but you can get more or less.
Wow 😍 what a beautiful video 💖 Hello, is it OK to keep 2 male love birds together ? I love love birds but problem with them is they are very aggressive. So need some clarifications from you because I only trust experienced / expert person.
Are you sure she is only 5 weeks old? Kaytee cockatiel pellets mixed with canary seeds. I would still try to feed her the formula 2 times a day 8 am and 8 pm. Best of luck!
Once a week?? Baby birds? Baby birds need hand feeding every few hours. Adults that have been weaned onto fruit, veg, pellets and seed once or twice daily
Then you don't have time to keep birds at all. Fresh fruit and veg can't be left out for a week. Feeding must be daily. Seed and pellets at least every few days
my birds laid eggs and i’m trying to learn as much as I can but I’m planning to separate the babies from the parents at 3 weeks so how many times a day should I feed the babies and how many ml/cc?
Hi!! thanks for the video. My lovebird just laid 3 eggs a week ago, but when I go near the nest, the bird gets defensive, that's gonna be a problem when I try to hand feed the babies right? And I was also wondering should I start feeding them the moment they are hatched or wait a few days?
You can only hand feed the babies after they are 3 weeks of age. They need the nutrients that the parents provide them in the first 3 weeks. Because this is your first time feeding baby birds I suggest you watch a lot of videos on how to hand feed. Also start to hand feed your babies when they are 5 weeks of age and do 4 feedings a day. 7 am, 12 Pm, 5 PM and 11 Pm.
Once you cover the carrier with a blanket, the babies keep each other warm, when they are 2 - 3 weeks of age I place a stuffed animal in the carrier so they can sleep under it if they get cold.
Any room of your house and whatever temp that if comfy for you is for them because they stay in their little crib thing. They keep each other warm, I place a baby blanket over the crib brooder too.
Looks like a regular meat thermometer if I were you I'd go to a pet store and get a reptile thermometer for the brooder to constantly monitor the temp and an actual thermometer for taking the temps of people for the formula, its more accurate
All about perspective. You have yours and I have mine, none are wrong or right. You have your way or caring for lovebirds and I have mine, as long as they grow happy, healthy, loving and cute that's all it matters at the end. Stay blessed
Yes it is. You may feed them as fast or as slow as they want you to. Male babies usually eats less and slower, the females are a big faster eaters and eat a lot!
Slowly get him used to you, chances are the little guy wasn't hand raised or hasnt been handled in quite some time at least. Start off by just sticking your hand in the cage to show you arent a threat do not attempt to touch the bird and dont shove your hand in its face. You can also offer treats like seed from your hand to get the bird to associate you with something good and be less reluctant. Its a long process but do some more research, offer seeds out of hand, and work on getting the bird to approach you, do not force this.
Hi, Marie. Maybe, the baby is a little older than 6 weeks? Maybe it's a male and they eat a lot less than the females. Maybe you have a little female bird and females develop a little faster than the males (less needy) lol...Whatever the reason, don't panic! Try to feed the baby bird regular seeds, pellets and never forget the millets! Millets are important to give them at this age.Cover the floor of the cage with newspaper and then place the food on the bottom so the baby can start foraging for food on it's own. Make sure you start the baby bird with canary seed/pellet mix. Best of luck!
I give then 3 siringes of 3 cc. The male babies tend to eat less than the females, when they are full they also tend to back away from the food. That usually happens when they are over 6 weeks old.

The Alex and Lexi Show He’s about 42 days now and I’m working on weaning. He’s doing great and flying! He never got used to the syringe and I’m still doing hand feeding once a day. Idk why he hates it so much. 🤷♀️
If he is refusing formula and seems lethargic then vet right away. When symptoms appear you dont usually have a lot of time to get them help, birds like to hide it, and this is especially concerning if its only a 4 1/2 week baby. Find a vet that either works on birds a decent amount or is specifically an avian vet (those are better)

Hi Libby, How is your little baby doing? Were you able to get him to start eating?
The Alex and Lexi Show He’s about 42 days now and I’m working on weaning. He’s doing great and flying! He never got used to the syringe and I’m still doing hand feeding once a day. Idk why he hates it so much. 🤷♀️
help my bird is 30 days old and he's not active he stays at the corners and not eating
+Christopher Greene its too late he was cured but he got killed by a cat that got into our house. he was just 50 days old around that time..
