      I wish they added no dressing\undressing without command. I hate it when pawns try to put on what I don't intend for them. But if I set naked policy they UNdress. So I need to manually set each pawn's clothes. But even then they attempt to wear something allowed that I need to stay in storage. And if I forbid interactions, they won't haul it. It's a nightmare. How easy is it to forbid them from CHANGING? It's 1 line in the code. Change_clothes = 0, something like that.

    Just some extra tips i find useful
    -always keep an unistalled spyke trap somewere to install it quickly behind a door with your incapable of violence pawns so that they can be of some use in raids (very useful in naked brutality early game too)
    -if you floor an area with mountain roof infestation chances decrease
    -always build wooden furniture underground but only stone walls so that if you get an infestation you can just burn that room.
    -raugh stone floor does not produce filth so it's good for kitchens in early game and not expencive at all
    -pawns will equip shield belts even if they have a ranged weapn, be sure to check who has them before a raid, you can stop this by disabling shield belts in the cothing restrictions.
    -armor is a real game changer, try getting basic plate armor for your melee pawns as soon as possible, esepcially if you aren't using automated defences.
    -some traders buy wood, when you find one send all your people cutting wood so you can stockpile some silver for the next trader (beware, it will also increase colony wealth)
    -colony wealth affects how big raids get, you should try lowering it if it gets too difficult
    -loosing a pawn makes you get easyer threats for some time, maybe thet addicted pyro is not so useless after all...
    -luciferium is hard to get but you can farm it in ancient danger by settling in tiles next to your base and then abbandoning them after clearing the ancient danger
    -installing peg limbs on prisoners is a good way to farm medical skill, you can release rhem afterwards for faction reputation
    -some times the organs are worth more than the prisoner, keep it in mind when selling to a slaver.
    -if you have a lot of meat eating pets you can let them eat the bodies (rats seem to be the most efficient at this)
    -if a "wanderer joins" event gives you a pawn with a weapon and good meals it's very likely is's a trador but it's just a red flag, make them drop the weapon and remain unarmed for some days
    -you can equip wood as a weapon (very useful in naked brutality)
    If wild animals attack a trader's animal don't stop them, if the animal dies it drops all the loot it has and you can take it for free.
    -when travellers have some items to sell the one with the "?" on his had has all the items in the inventory, you can check it with the gear button so you don't have to whaste time to trade just to see what they have.
    -if you have a pawn with a melee weapon, you draft it and select attack you can hover your mouse on foggy areas of the map (like a mountain) when the icon of the cursor changes it means there is a free tile there, you can mine it to discover hidden areas of the map
    -if there is a thrumbo on the map you can hit it once and hide in your base, it will go manhunt and take care of raids for you (or get killed so you can butcher it)

    I've got a few other tips for you.
    1. When rolling your pawns, try to prioritize Construction on at least 2 of them. The reason is that construction passionate pawns (number wont matter as much if they have a burning passion.) are extremely rare from raids or travelers. They are about 5 times rarer then the next rarest pawn.
    2. Improving beauty. Daybloom can grow with normal lighting inside rooms and doesn't need a sunlamp, so its a good source of early beauty. Jade is 10x more effective than marble walls and just as durable, so if you have jade, make it into walls. If you want to improve beauty with jade on the cheap, jade fence is 1 jade per 5 beauty.
    3. Kneel pillows are the best Ideology sitting object as they can be used as chairs and only be slightly worse than wooden chairs, but have 30x the beauty value. (Devilsthread kneel pillows are worth an average of 225 beauty.)
    4. You can overcome the requirements of high life with beer and psycheleaf tea set at 3 and 2 days respectfully. With this setup you will never get addictions nor really much manipulation loss unlike smokeleaf and its 30% loss.
    5. Autobongs can be used near the end of your killbox before the sandbags if you have high life. Raiders and bugs that pass through them will have a massive 30% less consciousness, which makes them very inaccurate and more likely to get knocked unconscious.
    6. For sunlamps, you can easily keep them up and powered as early as the first year if you have enough components. 2 solar panels will equal a single sun lamp even under volcanic winter, and solar panels stop working the same time sunlamps turn off, making them pair extremely well together.
    7. it is recommended to only have a few allies to trade with instead of making friends with everyone, as if you have too many friends, all your human raids will be replaced with mechanoid raids.

      @@SpartiniMartini Oh yeah, but I'm the person who uses barricks, not rooms. Its a lot more space effective to get a +3 barricks than ti is to run around with a bunch of +4 rooms since you can combine the temple, barricks, rec, and dining rooms together. • @Jonsse
    @Jonsse 3 года назад +31

    Here's a few more:
    1. Alternating sandbags in a corridor will make enemies move much slower through it.
    2. Statues are the best way to increase room impressiveness resulting in positive mood buffs.
    3. You can put grow zones on berry bushes/ambrosia sprouts if you disable sowing on those zones. Pawns will automatically gather the berries/ambrosia when they're harvestable, but won't cut the plants down.
    4. 2 solar panels can power a single sun lamp. Hooking them up in their own circuit will make the sunlamp work as a replacement sun when you can't have the plants exposed to the sky normally.

    Few tips of my own that I didn't see in the comments or video:
    1) Infestations are slightly less likely to occur in lit rooms. If building a mountain base, considering making one unlit, un-floored room out of the way and in a special location. Infestations won't be guaranteed there, but they're be more likely. You can build a special killbox here to deal with any insectoids.
    2) Speaking of killboxes; when providing an area for your colonists to shoot from, always make sure that it is covered and unlit. The roof will ensure that any rain will not negatively effect your colonists aim, and the darkness will make you slightly harder to hit.
    3) Placing a sleeping spot, crafting spot, animal sleeping spot, etc next to a sleeping mechanoid will wake it up. This can be useful if you leave a sleeping cluster and wake them up to attack any raiders on your behalf; or if you just want to draw the machines to your defenses without getting a pawn too close.
    4) Sappers are more likely to go after an area of wall that is not being protected by a turret. While it may be draining on your power supply, if you surround your walls with turrets, you have a higher chance of leading sappers where you want them to go.
    5) Consider keeping your chemfuel in a unique storage zone away from your other supplies, possibly in a stone room. Should something happens that causes them to catch fire, they won't destroy all of your supplies.

    If you want a tip for sleep schedule, 3 hours for recreation (or meditation if tribal), 3 for sleep and then 6 for work and repeat once for 12 hour days keeps your pawns much happier overall, as they will always have the well rested and high recreation mood buffs. It comes at the cost of some productivity tho and is only good if your pawns don't have to move too far to their jobs, but not having mental breaks during or before raids really helps with surviving.
    credits to the streamer adamvseverything for that one.
    I personally also advice to get a good constructor as soon as possible, as they can craft higher quality beds meaning your pawns need less sleep. I tend to use my inspirations on double beds for that reason too. qualitybuilder is also a great quality of life mod. it doesnt add anything new, just makes it so only your best builder works on the thing you make if quality matters, and you can set which quality you want at least, if it isn't good enough your builder will deconstruct and try again until the wanted quality is gained. this can drain resources tho, so be careful.

    One thing concerning smoothed floor and walls : Those give more wealth than more regular floor and walls. On top of that theya re really really slow to smooth. So if you build a base inside a mountain, don't smooth everything. Instead only smooth what is useful. You can always remove the floor and smooth later if you wish.

    • @SpartiniMartini
      @SpartiniMartini  3 года назад +6

      Very true! I often end up smoothing my bedroom & prison floors in a mountainbase and use materials for the other rooms, or I'd be smoothing for days on end

    • @federicogarcia9406
      @federicogarcia9406 3 года назад +6

      As a small tip, I'd say to smooth walls first, since they net more beauty than floors, and are faster to do. Also, you can then mine them, thus destroying the wall and lowering the wealth.
      However, smoothing floors is a great way to train "Construction" for the same reasons.

    • @ichifish
      @ichifish 3 года назад +23

      Smoothing floors may add some wealth, but it's a trivial amount for any but the most min-maxy of min-maxers: smooth floors have a market value of about 8 (the same as stone tile) but IF their value is considered in the raid point calculation (see below) they're considered "buildings" (like walls, furniture, etc.). Building value is halved for raid strength, so that leaves you with a value of 4 per tile, meaning 100 tiles of smooth floor is less than the value of that extra sniper rifle that's been kicking around since you're first siege (530), and the same as 210 units of steel or 190 units of plainleather in the storeroom. 100 tiles aren't much more than that donkey you keep for old time's sake and the occasional road trip (315), and much less than that bear that used to tank but now just loafs around (700 + 56 points if it's trained to attack). If you're a meth lab proprietor those 100 tiles are worth 28 units of flake or 19 yayo, so sell that shit fast! That raid you butchered 'cause everybody's a crazy cannibal now? 100 tiles = 95 human leather or 200 human meat (and don't get me started on organs!). Even a thousand tiles of smoothed stone (4000) is negligible compared to the other buildings/items/pawns a base of that size would contain. Floors just aren't that much compared to an additional 13% move speed.
      Yes, you could get the same movement speed with flagstone, which would be 2.7 per tile, so that's a cost-saving route assuming you have stone cutters and want to min-max but keep the move speed. The +2 beauty bonus (going from -1 for rough stone to +1 for smooth) isn't much compared to throwing a statue into the room, too, so smoothed floors aren't getting you too much there. On the plus side smoothing stone is a great side project to keep constructors happy and maintaining or building their skills without having to acquire any other resources.
      All that said, AFAIK it's still an open question as to whether floors add anything to raid strength. They add wealth, but wealth ≠ raid point strength. Floors aren't technically "buildings" like benches, or "structures" like walls or doors (whose value is merged with buildings for raid point calculations). They don't have hp and can't be claimed. If you were not as distractible as I am or prone to writing overly long RUclips comments you could check using "write storyteller" in dev mode. It shows the raid points.

      The thing about the mod for a regular playthrough is that rivers are kinda balanced in the way that you can only build wood defenses on them but are great for power, the mod removes the downside making the upside even stronger.
      Not saying you shouldn't use it, but keep it in mind. The way I play in rimworld is I crank up the difficulty by doing less wealth management more if I uses overpowered mods or ideoligions. (I play max difficulty already so can't simply crank up difficulty and have to do it with wealth)

    Adding onto tip 20, minified buildings also don't deteriorate outdoors. So you can store store completed statues, furniture, spare production buildings, batteries, and any other building. But I'd recommend roofing the space -- avoid lighting strike damage and also any wood out there will rot slower if it's raining.

  • @Emmezali
    @Emmezali 2 года назад +3

    Another tip to get enemies to slow down before they reach your base is to put a big chunk storage zone right outside your base borders. I always put turrets next to the doors in the wall to my domain, so that any raiders get slowed down by the chunk pile, so that the turrets have more time to shoot them.

    • @SpartiniMartini
      @SpartiniMartini  2 года назад +2

      Chunks provide 50% cover though. I try and build a little killbox around a type of ground that slows enemies down naturally like soft sand, water or mud. If you have resources to spare, instead of chunks you could make a few animal boxes. That used to be a meta a good while ago as they only provide 15% cover. But they also break easily, so it might no longer be worth it

Just hit the wall when you saw the raid event to one hit point then make last hit when raiders are in right spot. They will get hurt and catch fire which will cost you just 5 wood and a little chemfuel. Also you need to set up it manually of course. Many others checking all your paws and know how to use them effeciently is a must on normal and higher difficulties .. if you have paw with trigger happy (-50% aim time and -5% accuracy ? No dont just give him sword, but give him grenades -> he will throw them 2x as fast as anybody else .. massive dmg and even best way to hold mechanoids in chokepoints under concentrated fire (^-^)b

If you have ideology enabled, you can set the precept to make them dont mind (or even love) nutrient paste. Youre going to still need someone with good enough cooking for going out, but you can just let them cook some simple meals whenever you wish to go caravaning. • @SpartiniMartini
