Honored to say that in 2014 I got to surf with Jay in Mexico for 3 days in a row about a month before he died. He was riding this weird pickle fork nosed board and collecting lots of set waves. At one point it was just us sitting out the back and this set wave was approaching and he looked at me and said “you’ve been waiting. Go for it”
I knew Jay from skateboarding and surfing and hanging out at the beach as a kid and into our teens. Being wild kids smoking weed drinking beers at Toes Beach and we'd end up at the same house party or punk gig. I knew who he was as a little kid he was two years older. Skating at Marina Skatepark or at some pool or ramp in the neighborhood. It was always cool to have Jay show up. Then it got to be where you almost didn't want Jay to show up because something crazy was gonna happen. But, I always liked the guy. We got along but were never close friends but had a lot of the same friends. Venice, Playa Del Rey, Westchester, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica are all attached at the hip and not like any other parts of LA. We had the best life as kids and teens and we kinda knew it but not until we got older. We lived where almost every kid in the world wished they lived. We were the center of the universe for many years for many reasons and it was fun and it could be scary. The '70s was paradise, the '80s was getting crazy, then the '90s people either went to jail or prison, or got jobs and married with kids, or moved away and didn't tell new people about who you know what you used to do and who you used to be mostly because they probably wouldn't believe you. That was what I did. R.I.P. JAY

It never seems to amaze me how God can take a lost and misused vessel, forgive it, place His Holy Spirit into it, and transform it into a righteous new creation, and put it on an entirely different trajectory, to glorify its Creator. Jay's testimony is a powerful witness of Redemption and the transforming power of God, and nothing less. Praise God. ✌️
Religion Divides ; Belief Unites. Religion is extremely dangerous and harmful…. It is responsible for an immense amount of death, destruction and oppression. Belief in a higher power, understanding of mankind’s place on Earth, and a spiritual connection to our role in the Universe ALL bring humanity TOGETHER. One day, mankind will evolve beyond the confines of organized religion, and true progress can be made in minimizing human suffering.
I met and skated with Christian in 1987 in palmdale, California, at a shop called "Bicycle Radness " owned by Insane Wayne croasdale. What a time to be alive.
I love Jay but I will admit, he's hard to fully wrap my head around. From starting as the original Cali wild child, surfer, skater, to hard drugs, prison, then cleaning up and trying to help kids in high school to stay away from drugs. He's a very complex person but yet, no matter how many interviews, and things I've read about him, I still have trouble comprehending elements about him, considering he grew up with a very supportive and loving household. Still was sad when he passed and think of him often (obviously as I'm here)>
Man, you said, it. So complex. Good home for sure, but when his brother and his mother died, he didn't know how to cope. Alisha said it best: "Jay sober and Jay high are two different people." I can attest to that. I remember him best as an amazing surfer/skater and a good and humble friend. Thanks for checking in.
Watching his skating when I was a kid was amazing, even though it was the 2000s. It was like the missing link, seeing how skating evolved. And I just regret wasting over a decade to dope. Idk if I'll ever be able to skate again
I feel ya man about 10 years ago I said to myself I’m not going to let drugs and drinking rob me of anymore time. I wasted a good 15 years had a lot of regrets and things I wished I’d done. What made me feel better is knowing I won’t let that garbage rob me of anymore time.
I see myself in him so much I do parkour my natural high but to be honest I haven't done much lately depressed....like a lot of other people lets this be a example not to quit and learn from his mistakes
For sure. Loved Jay and the lessons he taught an addictive world. Thanks for checking in. Share this and other God N Gangsters content with family, friends and anyone who needs it. Thank you
I know what you're saying, but we have too few characters to argue theology here. I'm just glad for those who have turned from drugs and gangs to God. Makes me so happy. Hopefully, the details of the faith will work themselves out. Thanks for checking in.
I'm covered by the blood of Jesus, who loved me and gave His life for me. God the Father sees His Son in me and I am now justified by my faith in Him. I think it's called grace. The old me died, and now I am the righteousness of Christ- nothing more, and nothing less. Judged, buried in baptism, and raised in newness of life. That's what the Bible says, and I believe it. ✌️
Whether you believe in god or not, if what you believe makes you a better person to yourself and others then you have found your way. We are all different but finding a way to respect and understanding for our fellow humans will bring about a better world for all. RIP Jay.
I get that, and agree with it entirely. That said, Jesus called himself The Truth. The Way, The Truth and The Life to be exact. Jay understood that, and it changed his life. Thanks for checking in with us, Mike.
I lived at 25 Navy Street in Venice, use to have parties all the time from 1980 to 1984, one night Jay came by, I heard of him but never met him, I was about to toss him, and someone said that is Jay Adam's, I'm like screw that, he is God at my party, anything he wants, we became good associates, I won't say friends, but I always felt like a friend, I can tell I would back him up to the blood, he was one of the down guys I ever met in life, people will say he was a nice guy, he was an more, I would help anyone out, it saddens me today that I never got to say goodbye. My name is Zippy, and I want to say RIP J, you will never be forgotten and always missed

He had some trouble in life, but, thank God he got over that. Thanks for checking in with us. Share our stories with family friends and anyone who needs them. Many blessings, G&G
Yes. And the only reason I put his story on G&G is so that people can see how someone can be given everything, lose everything, and get everything back again. Jay was an honest Christian, but it took some doing on God's part to get him there. Thank you
duuddeee i remember hearing of this guy in that movie lords of dogtown i always thought he was the bad ass of the bunch r i p Jay glad he got clean before he passed
Yeah, thanks. Jay was stoked on life and found his highs where they always were: In God, family, friends, surfing and skateboarding, pretty much in that order, although the order could shift from time to time. Thanks for your comments.
Very honestly put straight to the point. " Smoking weed will lead to other drugs or keep you a slave ". Lawmakers who legalized weed and others should listen to recovery stories or addicts . Rip Mr Adam's so sad, dude. I could only imagine getting a second shot at a clean and sober life ✌️ you were very fortunate to have that personal awakening and discovery. You were taken by the lord clean rather than by the devil as a junkie .
@@GodNGangsters appreciate your prayers. Jesus saved me in 2000 after i felt a great burden of my sins, read Romans 1-10, by the time i reached the 10th chapter I had repented of my sins and put my faith in Christs death and resurrection, and he opened my eyes and granted me salvation. I was filled with joy and drew closer to our LORD, getting to know our merciful savior. Fast forward 10 years later, I began to get depressed and slowly turned back to my old sins. Now I feel Im straying away again. Still listen to John Macarthur and other pastors though. God bless you guys.

Jay was far from dumb, but he did make a lot of dumb mistakes. To quote Skip Engblom, "He was so gifted in so many ways and absolutely clueless in others." Once he put down drugs he was an amazing person, and did nothing but good for society.
@@GodNGangsters - spreading misinformation about drugs/drug abuse can EASILY be misconstrued as “doing good”… he is spouting Drug War propaganda to bolster/justify/rationalize his own mistakes… “Every drug addict I know started by smoking weed…” , etc. … That short-sightedness has ALWAYS been within him, and never left.

Weed is a tricky one because when under control is actually good for you in certain ways. Would I rather take 4 hits of weed a day for the rest of my life or drink a large coffee and a tylenol a day for the rest of my life? It's not WEED'S fault that humans get out of hand with it and abuse it
True, but same can be said for everything from sugar to morphine. control is the issue and not everyone has much of that, especially when loaded. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.
I smoked Pot all my Life but I never been a Junky..!!!...sorry Jay but not everybody is a ''mental slave''..!!!!...glad you found redemption at the end of your life thought..!!!!!!
I don't think Jay mean to imply that smoking weed would always lead to shooting up, but it does for some people and he was one of them. Thanks for your input.
I remember Jay Adams in Sports Illustrated as a kid on a backside carve in a pool. I thought that was about the coolest thing I had EVER seen and I wanted nothing more than to be that. Thank god that did not happen. Jay is a great example of why we should raise kids non-religious. Because one day, it may all fall apart. And when it goes too far south, Jesus might be the only hope for people. But it is important that they "find " it themselves.
Never thought of it that way, but it does make sense. I think, however, it's better to teach kids the truth about Christianity, give them a solid biblical foundation and not just cool guy music and summer camps. The world will try to move them off the mark, but a solid foundation can keep them grounded. Thanks for your insights.
Nah, teach em early. Other wise in 2023 they will have “free time” to be “taught” there are mOrE tHaN tWo gEnDerS. Religion is a good thing, in a world of morons.
@@GodNGangsters my comment isn't by any means a knock against Jay. The man was a legitimate legend. A man like Jay getting sober is proof that no matter how bad the addiction, it can be overcome. I've been sober from taking up to 80 10mg Norco a day for nearly 7 years. My initial knock about heroin being a gateway drug to Christianity, is just that. A knock. I'm not religious by any means of the word. I don't think it's right that most people get religion shoved down their throats as a means to quit drugs or stay sober. How could I follow any religion, such as Christianity or forms of Christianity, that are totally hypocritical? Christianity in all its forms was revised over and over to suit the needs of its people. If one set of Christians didn't like 1 thing about their belief system, it was changed to suit them. How can I follow a Religion that assisted Nazi war criminals to escape Europe after World War 2? That's what the Vatican did. So selling people Christianity as the only way to get sober is ridiculous and hypocritical to me. Trading one addiction for another. I hope you understand what I'm getting at. And I highly appreciate the way you asked me to expand on my thought. Mad respect to you.
I wish more people discussed their feelings like this, Daniel. You are a true gentleman, and I appreciate it. As for religion. I agree with you. Religion is manmade, but following the bible is not. I have never found that religions, and all forms of human constructed ideas are hypocritical. But you can't blame God for the hypocrisy of people who don't follow the script. The vatican has been responsible for many wrong doings. So true with all churches and non churches. (Atheistic regimes killed over 100 million people in the last century while the Spanish Inquisition killed around 3,000 and the Salem Witch Trials killed 18. Of course that does not make those things right. They are atrocities, and a show a mishandling of God's truth. I'll try to be better about responding in the future. Thanks for checking in, bro.

Praise God. ✌️
Thank you. Please pass our stories onto those who need them. Many blessings to you.
Amen! Praise God! ❤
God also punishes you for the wicked and the evil you commit to other people and Jay was absolutely no stranger to evil.
100% agree with you bro! Stay safe brother🙏🏽
Oh what a magical mystery moment it must have been for the both of you
Gone to soon....he's lucky he made it as long as he did....rip Jay boy
You're right. Lived so hard and fast. And, in the end, he was a blessing
a true legend
For sure. And one we can all learn a great deal from. Thanks for checking in.
Rest in peace, my brother in Christ and skateboarding. I'll see you in paradise.
Thanks and blessings to you, Ivan.
Jay is one of a kind and a True Legend he was in the books in the school library 🤘🏻RIp 🙏🏻
All true.
The only way to exist long term in this world is to get comfortable with repetition and boredom.
Some people don't wanna roll like that.
I can relate.
Watching his skating when I was a kid was amazing, even though it was the 2000s. It was like the missing link, seeing how skating evolved. And I just regret wasting over a decade to dope. Idk if I'll ever be able to skate again
Without dope, there's more time for the things that really matter. Glad you're doing well now.
I feel ya man about 10 years ago I said to myself I’m not going to let drugs and drinking rob me of anymore time. I wasted a good 15 years had a lot of regrets and things I wished I’d done. What made me feel better is knowing I won’t let that garbage rob me of anymore time.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY ADAMS 🏄♂️riding the biggest wave
Is it his birthday? I never knew that. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for paving the way for all🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺RIP
And thank you for mentioning it.
Now Plumer gone as well. I was honored to be able to skate with you Shogo and Jimmy Plumer
sorry to hear about Jimmy
I'm glad that he got to know the Lord before he passed. Also, it's so cool to see Christian Hosoi on fire for God! I need bros like these guys.
And we all need bros like you. Yeah, we need each other. Thanks for checking in, bro
So thankful he found the Lord, had a loving family and such good friends! 🙏✝️💙🌹R.I.P
His testimony is AWSOME
Thanks, Michael. Please check out our other videos and share them with family, friends, and anyone who needs to hear them. Blessings,
I agree. Testimony is everything...
I see myself in him so much I do parkour my natural high but to be honest I haven't done much lately depressed....like a lot of other people lets this be a example not to quit and learn from his mistakes
Jay learned to fall back on the things he loved naturally. I hope you do the same. Blessings in 2024
It is amazing when you let the Holy Spirit in your heart that goodness takes care of your soul and your loved ones
So true, bro. That's something we certainly share. Bless you
So beautiful how Jay turned to God just years before his death! Now he's with our Lord in Heaven! Amen!
It was wonderful seeing the change in his life. He was a blessing to many. Thanks for checking in with us.
RIP Jay. Legend
For sure. Loved Jay and the lessons he taught an addictive world. Thanks for checking in. Share this and other God N Gangsters content with family, friends and anyone who needs it. Thank you
God doesn't judge. He accepts us all. Rest in paradise Jay...
Thank you, Billy
That would be false. But whatever
All true, bro. And thanks for calling out what is not true. Blessings to you
Whether you believe in god or not, if what you believe makes you a better person to yourself and others then you have found your way.
Cool memory, Zippy. I know Jay would appreciate it.
one of the greats
Thank you
You're welcome
This is sad to hear but the change was made and that’s good
It was so sad for those of us who knew and loved him.
He had an awesome restaurant called chollos in Hawaii near North shore.....Meet him several times.....very sad to hear he passed.
I didn't know Cholo's was his restaurant. Glad you got to know him because you know what a cool, humble guy he was sober. Hopefully, you never saw the other side. Thanks for checking in with us.
@@GodNGangstersCholos was not his. I bet he knew the owner because he had a pool built for skaking up Pupukea.
1 of my childhood idols
He had some trouble in life, but, thank God he got over that. Thanks for checking in with us. Share our stories with family friends and anyone who needs them. Many blessings, G&G
Some of the best skaters all detailed I was a speed freak myself by 15 reasons why always is
I love that you used the past tense, Was! When it comes to drugs that's one of my favorite words. Bless you
Love.
We lost a good person that day. He had a lot to teach the youth and sk8ers of today about love and respect and STYLE!
He did. Thanks for checking in.
R.I.P. LEGEND!!!
yes!
I’m so happy to hear he turned Christian before he passed. Hallelujah to that
One of the greatest stories ever. Pass it on to those who need to hear it. Thanks and blessings to you
O.G. style.
R.I.P.
🙏
The real Skip sounds exactly like heath ledger pretended he did, 😮😮
Heath did a good job. Even Skip said so.
Hows that he was a heroin addict my uncle overdose in1971 horrible drug destroyed so many live stay sober !!!!
Yes, thank you for that. Sober is a goal, and God is the road there.
Dog town forever!!
Great skater no matter what
Yes. And the only reason I put his story on G&G is so that people can see how someone can be given everything, lose everything, and get everything back again. Jay was an honest Christian, but it took some doing on God's part to get him there. Thank you
He owes me money
I can only imagine what for. Thanks for checking in.
duuddeee i remember hearing of this guy in that movie lords of dogtown i always thought he was the bad ass of the bunch r i p Jay glad he got clean before he passed
Yeah, thanks. Jay was stoked on life and found his highs where they always were: In God, family, friends, surfing and skateboarding, pretty much in that order, although the order could shift from time to time. Thanks for your comments.
@@GodNGangsters You're most welcome. I wanted to know more of his story. I had no idea he passed until this video. Good channel man.
Thank you, Raven.
@@RavenBlaze420 Thank you, Raven. Pass it on to anyone who needs to see this. Thank you
Very honestly put straight to the point.
Thank you, John. Bless you in your journey, bro
anyone on a skateboard now is just trying look half as cool as jay adams did.
All true.
Amazing how God can change lives, gives me hope
It was such a blessing to see him live for God. Thanks for checking in with us. Please share our stories with those who need them. Thank you
@@GodNGangsters appreciate your prayers.
I too have drifted back into my old ways in the past. Let's make a deal; you pray for me and I'll pray for you. Amen
@@GodNGangsters Amen brother i will.
...Prayed for you just now bro, and, as someone who has drifted back, let me remind you that there is nothing to drift back into. We need to stay the course bro. Blessings forever.
Love from Sweden
Love back, from California
Thankfully he was saved
That was such a wonderfully transformed life. Really blessed me.
When someone really dumb is very good at something, a LOT of dissonance gets thrown into society.
Jay was far from dumb, but he did make a lot of dumb mistakes. To quote Skip Engblom, "He was so gifted in so many ways and absolutely clueless in others." Once he put down drugs he was an amazing person, and did nothing but good for society.
@@GodNGangsters - spreading misinformation about drugs/drug abuse can EASILY be misconstrued as “doing good”… he is spouting Drug War propaganda to bolster/justify/rationalize his own mistakes…
“Every drug addict I know started by smoking weed…” , etc. …
That short-sightedness has ALWAYS been within him, and never left.
I remember uncle jay growing up on the north shore only dude with a lowrider
Uncle was always a styler.
@@GodNGangsters no lie I use to go to his house when he lived in uncle nicks house in sunset

Religion: The last resort of the scoundrel.
And atheism is the first resort.
Jay Adams looking at Cholo skaters like 😂. Jay was the OG gangster skater
So true, Tony. OG as they come. I knew of him in his early years, and we became close friends after his conversion. His redemption story is worth telling. Thanks for checking in. Please share Jay's story with everyone who needs to hear it.
Dope vid rip jay
Thank you. The video is taken from a film I directed called D.O.P.E. (Death Or Prison Eventually.) Please share this and our other videos with family, friends, and anyone who might enjoy them.
I have no respect for people who hurt people. Im a survivor from what he and his friends did to that guy who died. I survived....
I get what you're saying, but he was young and he forever regretted many of his bad decisions. Still, I look at his life as mainly a triumph.
What about his son 7 he had with Samantha who use to work at Domingo’s pizza in sunset
haven't seen Seven in some time. I hear he's doing well though. Thanks for checking in
@@GodNGangsters happy to hear that god bless stay safe
''There's no freedom in drug use.'' After 15 years of dope, with 6 yrs sober, that's a FACT. RIP Legend...
thanks for paying your respects.
I wanted to meet him!
Yeah, Rebel. He was an awesome guy when he was clean and sober. Fun, funny, energetic, devout, loyal. Miss him every day. Thanks for checking in.
RIP Jay Adams
RIP JAY BOY
God rest your soul brother
RIP Jayboy
Heroin. The gateway drug to Christianity. Rest In Peace, Jay. I hope you found your peace in the end.
Interesting comment, Daniel, and in a way I suppose it's true. Please expound upon your comment. I'd love to hear more. Thank you
@@GodNGangsters my comment isn't by any means a knock against Jay.
@@GodNGangsters no worries dude. Constructive discussions are lacking nowadays. Now everyone wants to argue without doing their homework. Stay safe. Nice chatting with you.
You are a blessing, Daniel. Thank you for comments.
I have fallrd Jay for years my aunt aunt empty her pool for me in the 80 early 90 to be like him
I hope you followed him into faith also, Jason. Jay would have liked that. Sounds like you had a cool aunt BTW.
