Interestingly, you can also get every _language_ (in the PHB) with one to spare by the same level, with the combination of Variant Human for the Linguist feat, any background that gives two languages (I like Anthropologist from Tomb of Annihilation, since it also gives you a language-related ability), and Knowledge Cleric 1 / Shepherd Druid 2 / Mastermind Rogue 3. You end up with a pretty sizeable list of skills and tools (4 proficient, 4 expertise, and 5 tools), as well as both "secret" class-locked languages (Druidic and Thieves' Cant) and every other language in the PHB, with one extra from another source.

One aspect of Tasha's is that the example Academy patron has a training perk that ends with:
"In addition, you can gain proficiency in the Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion skills by this method, as if you were learning a language. A character can learn only one of these skills in this way."
If you can talk your DM into it, this is a way to get one extra skill.

In my campaign there's a Soul knife rogue 5 /Lore Bard 4 with 12 skill proficiency (including the 5 expertises)* and the Lucky feat. The great thing about soul knife is that they can add 1d8 (at level 5) to their skill check for skills they're proficient. Skill checks over 25 are no longer surprising to me because he's an amazing skill monkey. He also has the Borrowed Knowledge spell if there's something he's missing.
Also, there's an Artificer in the party so if he somehow misses a skill check, Flash of Genius is an extra +5 to the roll, 5 times per day
*He chose the skill expert feat instead of skilled, so he could have even more if he wanted

I love skill monkeys. There's a kind of forgotten race that starts with proficiency in one skill and expertise in another: The Aereni High Elf (and Aereni Wood Elf) from Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron. This digital-only book was originally playtest material, but it was rereleased after Rising from the last War with updated content. DnDbeyond counts the race (well, races) as official.

as a heads up to anyone trying to play the scout rouge build. the Eldritch adept feat has a prerequisite of needing either the spell casting feature or the pact magic feature. so you wouldn't be able to take it on a pure scout rogue.

With the Human (and half human) races, you also have Prodigy which is a single skill (but adds other things and an expertise). After all, while you have Proficiency in skill checks, you also have the other proficiencies that you can build up a stock of to make things interesting

  • @cubicengineering4715
    @cubicengineering4715 2 года назад

I think Lore Bard can get all 18 skill proficiencies by itself in the single-class category. I haven't gone through and added up the numbers myself but compared to Scout Rogue I believe both sub/classes grant a total of 6 skills permanently, but with Bard you've also got access to the Borrowed Knowledge spell which grants proficiency in any skill of your choice for the next hour

Just wanted to point out for the one-class only method of getting almost all skills. There is a different way you can get all but one skill without multiclassing, and that's by going half-elf for your race.
Half-Elf gives you two skills through its Skill Versatility feature, and rather than Squat Nimbleness you take the Prodigy feat. Prodigy is available to Human, Half-Elf, and Half-Orc and it gives you an extra Skill, Tool, and language proficiency, as well as expertise in one skill.
Realistically if you don't want to have to take yet another feat in the form of Prodigy and are okay with multiclassing then a simple Scout Rogue + Ranger multiclass is all you need.
Grab a race that gives you 2 skill proficiencies and get the Skill Expert feat, Skilled feat, and Eldritch Adept feat. Make sure to go Scout Rogue, then take 4 levels in Fey Wanderer Ranger.
Multiclassing into Ranger will give you another skill and if you use the Deft Explorer feature from Tasha's then the Canny sub-feature will get you another expertise. Then Fey Wanderer will give you that final skill proficiency from it's Otherworldly Glamour feature (pick Performance).
Otherworldly Glamour also adds your Wisdom modifier to all of your Charisma checks, making your Charisma skills better while you focus more on Wisdom. Scout Rogue also pairs pretty easily with Ranger thematically, and Ranger's Favored Foe/Hunter's Mark and Dreadful Strikes help make up a bit for the lack of more Sneak Attack dice.

I know it’s a bit cheesy but what about the combination of Phantom Rogue‘s „Whispers of the Dead“ combined with the „Keen Mind“ Feat?.. As it’s worded the ghost tells you all about its knowledge and the feat reads as you remembering everything you’ve heard in the last month. So technically you don’t forget about the knowledge/proficiency at the end of the day. I know this interaction has been covered by many dnd RUclipsrs before, is cheesy and kinda up to interpretation but I wanted to mention it anyway :)
Nice Video btw! I very much enjoy your videos and the streams covering UA content! I really like your calm voice and in combination with the informative content you are definitely my favorite DnD Yotuber :)

Honestly you can achieve proficiency in all skills by level 3. Custom lineage with the keen mind feat and pick up 3 levels in phantom rogue. Normally you forget the profeciency at the end of a rest, but thanks to keen mind, "You can accurately recall anything you have seen or heard within the past month." So with 28 day months, you have 10 days of learning extra tool proficiencies before you need to relearn skills.

  • @CommNagrom

If you pick a human or half human (half elf/orc) you can also get prodigy with gives you 1 more skill, one tool, one language and expertise in one more skill, idk if that changes anything but it could work for the single class build although you'd still max out at 17 I believe

I'd love to see a video on the Expert of Experts or Master of Most type and how to get it to be at least functional in combat in a high-level larger party where an almost literal jack-of-all-trades can function. A character with all the expertise/doubled-proficiency possible in 20 levels. 10 levels of some kind of bard for 4 expertise, 6 levels of scout rogue for 6 expertise, 1 level of knowledge cleric for 2 expertise, 1 level of ranger for canny and 1 expertise. That's 13 from 18 levels of multi-classing. Two of the ASI in there go to Skill Expert for 1 expertise, Prodigy for 1 expertise. 15 expertise out of 18! I just don't know how to properly tinker from there to make the character less Abserd and as close to a character that's useful in the combat pillar as possible. There's a lot of Multi-Ability Dependency in all the multi-classes and only so many ASI to go around. What class do you start as? (I imagine you're Variant Human for the extra skill, extra feat and to qualify for Prodigy?) Do you go Valor Bard for multi-attack or Lore Bard to make sure you also have all 18 skills / more magical secrets? Do you take those last two levels in bard to get one more ASI and to be a better caster? Do you get up to Fey Wanderer ranger with them for the wombo-combo of being able to add your wisdom to your charisma skills / counterspell / dispel magic, etc? More rogue for evasion and another ASI? More cleric for more varied casting and channel divinity? If you have any remaining ASI, how do you use them? Warcaster? More raw stats? (I'm thinking the three expertise you'd forgo would be Medicine because you're a magical healer and then Athletics and Acrobatics because you're a support/buff/debuff/back-up-healer caster first? I dunno. Trying to make that mess of a gimmick character into something semi-functional in a high level party sounds like a fun challenge.

You can do this as a warforged at level 1 if your dm is okay with it.
Be a warforged, and take druid as your class and scholar as your background.
You need mold earth as a cantrip and goodberry.
Use goodberry to make food to sell. Use mold earth to create shelter to do sentry rest.
    Warforged have no age cap.
There are rules for training that allows you to obtain feats, languages, and tool proficiency. Use the money you earn to pay for these.
Normally everything you do is to be done during downtime, you actually will be doing it all the time. You do not need to eat or sleep, can't get sick, and many other perks of warforged.
