You made my day. I'm one of the developers of the game and I literally teared up while seeing you play. Thanks a lot for showcasing us and for the kind words! We are hard at work trying to make more QoL improvements!
Pixel art I can forgive on occasion. Pixelated text is simply inexcusable EDIT: oh that was entirely on Splattercat who could have turned it off at any time!
I get so extremely excited when I hear there's a "Might and Magic" game, it brings fire to my soul and I can't wait to hear more about it. Then, I see a "Heroes of Might and Magic" video, and Splatty I can't explain to you enough how heart breaking this is. :( "Heroes" and "Might and Magic" are two different games. Some of us long for the actual "Might and Magic" days, and this game isn't part of it.
I thought it was hilarious that they used three voice-acted paragraphs to tell you in the most theatrical way possible, what gold is, as if gamers who play medieval strategy games might not know.
King's Bounty is a core memory for me. I was 8 or 9 when it came out and I rented it from a grocery store because it was only one of a few games available. Didn't know what to think, had never seen a game like it before and it didn't look like much. But I fell in love instantly. I rented it almost every week for my Genesis. You could rent 3 for $3 and it was always one of the combo. I loved that game SO MUCH. Then, out of nowhere, I go to rent it and discover that the grocery store cleared out all of their movies and games and sold all of it. I missed buying it by about an hour by the time I found out. I could not find it anywhere else and I was, in my emotional immaturity, quite devastated and inconsolable. Fast forward a few years and I'm looking through a PC Gaming World magazine and I see a full page ad for Heroes of Might and Magic. Holy shit. It was just like King's Bounty but way better graphics! I don' think I'd ever been so excited in my life up until that point. In my small town, we had nowhere to buy PC games besides Radio Shack but they didn't have it and couldn't order it. So I had to order it from this little hole in the wall PC repair shop and after the longest 4 weeks of my life, I was installing HoMM 1. I was a very sick child who was always home from school and the amount of hours I poured into that game must be in the thousands. But still, I missed the simplicity of King's Bounty so much. A few years later, after I had lost my copy of HoMM in a move, I'm in a nearby city and looking around the PC games section of a Future Shop (Canada's Best Buy before being bought by them in 2001). I spot this large dark and golden box, the HoMM Compendium, with both HoMM and HoMM 2 included. HoMM 2! I hadn't played that one yet! I don't take any time to really look at the box but I grab it and since we were in a hurry, quickly negotiate a few weeks allowance with my mom to buy it for me. We get in the car on our way back home and I pull out the box to give it a better look. Then I see it! On the back of the box, hidden away in the description, "includes King's Bounty!" The shriek of pure joy and surprise nearly made my suddenly terrified dad drive straight into the median in the parking lot. But I didn't care that he was angry, I had never been so excited to get to my computer 6 hours away than I was that day. I pored over the box and its contents so intensely that luckily, the time flew by. No other iteration of HoMM or King's Bounty has ever captured that magic and every once in a while, I'll fire up King's Bounty and dip into a simpler time. So in short, yea, I remember King's Bounty :)
Nice aesthetics, especially on the worldmap. Might try the demo. EDIT: oohh, very nice! Compelling writing as well. I'm not much of an early acces buyer, but I'm keeping my eye on this one.
This is a really interesting take on a HoMM-like, though it's really more like King's Bounty, with like a weirdly Pokemon-esque, or maybe more accurately final fantasy like combat, with the armies being like RPG parties. The card aspect is not my favorite, but it's a popular mechanic nowadays, and it's unique in this context. It looks like a lot of fun!
Legend of Grimrock is my fav, although it's not very "open" compared to the old M&M games. Also, SKALD: Against the Black Priory is wonderful, but it's... even more different :D
I got excited when I saw Might and Magic inspired. Love Might and Magic 2. When I saw the map I was still excited. This game would be Heroes of Might and Magic inspired. Not the same.
Yep! That's one of our main inspirations. The Disciples series is another strong influence. Also some people have brought out similarities with Etherlords (made by Nival, the studio that made HoMM5), and that's quite a good comparison too!
I am not sure where to ask this but it would be awesome if you'd revisit Subsistence. I don't know if you still randomly play but I found that game through your videos forever ago and since your last video the game has changed a lot. Anyways, thanks for all your videos. Your content is some of my favorite to watch.
The world is open more like Etherlords. 🤔 The backgrounds and spritework are great, it's just the portraits and writing that get me. Genuinely some of the least appealing sprites I've ever seen, and "Ornir [the Third] the Protector" just doesn't roll; absolutely needs punctuation, or to just drop one of those titles.
@@placeholdergameworks Well, for starters, implementing an actual defined male/female option would be a good place to start, having a good, but not overwhelming number of options for skin tones, eye color, and general appearance/dress, would be another one to look into expanding or improving upon. Player character variety can be a huge draw for a lot of players in and of itself.
This is good because the rpg elements were always why I liked elemental, war of magic back in the day. And to see it be less civ and more heroes will make the ai aspect less of a deal breaker.
To be frank, we decided to use cards as a way to work around our design problem where we wanted several units in a single faction to be able to use the same or similar abilities. Cards just kinda clicked with that principle instantly.
This looks cool but I prefer a more combat oriented version. The Iratus team got the official HoMM license and the previews look more like what I'm waiting for.
"I want to be able to speed up combat..." Thats why i love cheat engine... i'm playing Divinity Original Sin 1 now and bro... u walk SO FUCKING SLOWLY in that game that it looks like a joke 🤬 'Speed hack' = 2.0x is kinda mandatory for that game 😅

As much as the pixel art is beautiful here, the text font is annoying. Though after a few screens, I do notice it is still pretty easy to read and sort of nice. EDIT: just saw now (in this video) that there is an option to have smoother fonts. All GOOD then!

Oh, I thought it was Might & Magic not Heroes of Might & Magic. I was thinking finally the people are coming back to it! Alas. I'm sure it's good, but I'm too disappointed to actually watch the rest of the video. One day, it shall happen. One day maybe....
Hey Splatter, long time sub here, something that caught my attention is that you're playing lots of pixel art games as of late. I'm personally not a big fan of this art style but of course each to their own. It's just that when I see so many games with the same art style back to back on your channel, I start to lose interest. I still click the thumbs up button but I'm not watching any of those. Can you please diversify the content a bit? Thanks in advance.

The artwork in this game is fantastic!

nerd! go play your M&M four eyes, leave the HoMM to us jocks
Same here. Every time Splat said "Might and Magic" and not "Heros" my soul had died little by little. So, today I'll play World of Xeen.
I thought it was hilarious that they used three voice-acted paragraphs to tell you in the most theatrical way possible, what gold is, as if gamers who play medieval strategy games might not know.

@@placeholdergameworks That is a GOOD thing. :)
Who remembers the old King's Bounty (1990)?

@@HemogoblinGames I loved this story.
That's the OG, even before HOMAM.
I would say this is a "heroes of might and magic" inspired strategy rpg, Might and Magic itself is a dungeon romp with character creation.
But like keep up the great work!!! Alll good!
You hit the nail on the head, that's what we're aiming for - something that's more of a story focused experience.
yes. him missing the "heroes of" portion of the game was bugging me. as a player of both they are rather distinct.
@@GeryonM haha yes, I know it's petty but that was driving me mad.
Was thinking of pointing this out too XD
Juding by all the "NOT M&M" posts, I guess Splattercat's viewership has a lot of Van Caneghem veterans.
Nice aesthetics, especially on the worldmap. Might try the demo.
EDIT: oohh, very nice! Compelling writing as well. I'm not much of an early acces buyer, but I'm keeping my eye on this one.
Our hope is that the story would become one of the main selling points for the game, so your comment is very reassuring! ^_^
Thank you for screaming "Weeeeeee!" 😂
- Best part of the entire video.
HEROES of Might and Magic. You are talking about HOMM, not "Might and Magic". Don't get me excited for nothing Splatt :( I'd kill for a new M&M!
Same bro 😂
*happy HOMM noises*
Usually he has no idea what he is talking about
Yeah got me too

My dude, the key 'ALT' is pronounced like the first syllable of alternate.
Also here to point out that HOMM and M&M are different fantasy genres. Sup y'all!
A deck builder disguised as a hom&m, iujj
Wow this is a good find! Thanks for this one.
Nice art style 😮
That main menu screen is mesmerizing.
If you could, it would be nice to find an actual might n magic inspired game. Does anybody has any recommendations?
Legend of Grimrock is my fav, although it's not very "open" compared to the old M&M games. Also, SKALD: Against the Black Priory is wonderful, but it's... even more different :D
Anyone else grow up on and "Might and Magic", and not "Heroes of Might and Magic"? Really miss the dungeon crawling party of heroes RPGs
The pixel art has a lot of potential but it's way too busy at the moment. Not enough contrast in saturation and brightness.
I got excited when I saw Might and Magic inspired. Love Might and Magic 2. When I saw the map I was still excited. This game would be Heroes of Might and Magic inspired. Not the same.
nice this looks like kings bounty

@@mhjmstultiens the legend and Armoured princess are the ones.
@ I noticed. The map indeed reminds me a lot of Disciples, with all the small buildings.
For those interested the Demo is just the Prologue, the tutorial that is dialog heavy.
God, the mint color is brutal.
Wooohooo love your commentary
I don't know if this game is for me but it doesn't look bad.
Wait... I was expecting Might and Magic based on the title.... this is Heroes of Might and Magic.

So many humans in your human army of human faction doing human things

If it wasn't for the way character creation is set up in this game, I'd readily give it a shot.

If you can play zoomed out, why do you play zoomed in?
It looks claustrophobic.
