  • The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl LVII champions with Patrick Mahomes as MVP. Mahomes is 27 years old and is in the GOAT conversation, but Jalen Hurts is only 24 years old and played the game of his life with the exception of the fumble return TD. He was named a second-team All-Pro and had four total touchdowns in the Super Bowl. Both QBs are accomplished and still young but which team has the brighter future? Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor and David Helman debate whether the Chiefs or Eagles have the brighter future.

I think what a lot of people aren’t talking about that at the end they kind of hit on is everybody else about to get paid. Mahomes has a pretty team friendly deal. Nobody else is most likely going to sign a 10 year contract and everybody else of the young great teams has to have their quarterback be paid this year or next year. The Chiefs proven they can win with just average receivers or even below average like this year. They have a very young team that’s just going to get better and they’re gonna become like the Warriors back in the day were good receivers will choose them over anybody else and take a little bit less for the chance to win a championship. This is what Mahomes did on one ankle in the playoffs. Also take into account against the Bengals. He won, even with not one starting receiver in all of the second half and not having hardman for the Super Bowl . The Eagles have a lot of free agents they need to resign on Top of hurts.

The Eagles have a LOT of key free agents coming up and probably not enough money to bring them back. Both of the two DTs who play the most snaps, one of whom had ten sacks this season and the other a long-time Eagle and future HoFer. Then you have you have Brandon Graham who is the longest-tenured Philadelphia athlete and had ten sacks this season as the third pass rusher. Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh, both aging vets with great careers who did an admirable job when brought in to stuff the run. Robert Quinn, who didn't get on the field a ton in Philly but had 18.5 sacks as recently as 2021. Then both starting backers, TJ Edwards and Kyzir White, both of whom played well this season. In the secondary, a starting safety in Marcus Epps, his safety partner CJ Gardner-Johnson who was tied for most interceptions in the NFL, and James Bradberry, one half of arguably the best CB-tandem in the NFL this season. Eight of these eleven guys were in the top 11 in 2022 Eagles defensive snap count.
On offense it's a little better but not much. Along the offensive line it's a HoF center in Jason Kelce, a great starter in Isaac Seumalo, and Andre Dillard who doesn't play for the Eagles but could probably start elsewhere. Then Miles Sanders and Boston Scott, the latter of whom is our third running back option and the former who made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and had the 5th most rushing yards in the league. Then Zach Pascal, the fourth option at RB and a key special teamer. I don't really have anything to say about Tyree Jackson other than that he was a tight end on the roster. Gardner Minshew is another free agent, a quarterback who can probably start elsewhere. Finally, Rick Lovato, our long-snapper is a free agent.

The thing that makes dynasties so amazing in football is the marriage of talent, coaching and luck. Where you can be well coached and be talented, but sometimes dumb luck saves or sinks you. For all the dominance of New England with Brady, they played so many close nail-biters in the playoffs. Even they got bit by luck in 07 when A a nte Samuel drops a pick that hit him right in the chest. The 80's Niners needed last second drives, The Catch, etc. Steelers needed immaculate receptions and leaping Lynn Swan catches. The margins of what we consider dominance is so razor thin.
I say all this to say that even if the Cheifs are "better", they may not get the bounces, the breaks, the wind, etc.
