- This is Derik's second surgery in 6 months & we are really hoping things heal right this time. His doctor told him to take it easy for a year, so we'll see how that goes...lol.

This is for Derek. I would hire a housekeeper for your home until you are 6 months into your recovery. The help for Sarah would be such a relief. You kids make enough to do this. Everyone wins. Glad you are on the mend.❤

I completely agree. I have a 6 month old and we both work full time and without my husbands help, I would simply fall apart, burn and crash. If you can afford a reliable house keeper to come clean and tidy even once a week, it would really help keep both of your sanity.

Derik - I feel your pain. I've had several arthroscopes, knee reconstructions with bone graphs and screws and a piece of one of the knee caps broke off and my meniscus is torn on both the inside and the outside. I have been waiting 34 years for new knees. Helpful hints - Take your time doing everything and try to stand straight - less chance of falling. Teach the kids to be very gentle around/with you. Body wash wipes from pharmacy, dry shampoo, etc... Have a basket of essentials by your bed and couch. ( Water bottles, snacks, book, music, air pods notebook and pen, games, etc...) It will make it easier for you and Sara. Sending you both tons of love and prayers and support, my friends. Blessings - Judith 🙏❤

Derik- I tore both meniscus on my right knee on Father's Day while running. Mine were too damaged to be reattached, the Dr just trimmed the damage area. I can walk fast, I just can't run. I'll try in a year, maybe. I'm just glad I can walk, it gets better every day. Lord help Derik- with the pain n guide his family through all of this Amen. Your strength will come from above.

My husband would give anything to have a year with me and his son that he has been away from for 25 years because he passed away from cancer at 43 yrs young when our son was 4 yrs old! Be blessed! Do what you have to! To be able to walk your daughter down the aisle at her wedding one day. Maybe go to therapy to talk about how to handle changing physical activity! Life is hard but this is a walk in the park! God bless! 😊❤

Im so sorry for your loss at such a young age. We never know what life has in store for us. Life does go by so quickly. For others reading this, the older you get you will understand what I’m saying. Your comment hopefully will give Sarah & Derek something to ponder on… to realize you are beyond blessed to just be alive….to be able to enjoy your children, to be able to work at home & do what others will never experience, the vacations & travel you constantly do, etc.
No surgery is easy & the recovery is even harder. But you are so fortunate to be ALIVE! To enjoy raising your children…..enough said with love!🩵🩵🩵
Slow and easy will win the race. Believe me I know. Been there. Done that. Swimming. Is a great way to get your strength back in your legs when you've recovered. You will be able to do most normal things but not take such risks. Number 1 thing to do is follow your doctor's and therapists orders. Remember your kids are watching. They will learn to follow instructions and respect authority by watching you do the same.
Jack is such a sweet helper.

Don’t look at the long time frame for complete healing. Take one day at a time. Set goals for the day, the week then month. Stay positive. Many of us are praying for you and for Sarah. God is faithful and he is your healer. Believing with you for total recovery and for strength and sleep for Sarah as she cares for the entire family during this time. Praise Him Derik for the little goals you accomplish each day. You are one step closer to your finish line!

Do your best to follow directions and let it heal....a year is but just a tiny piece of the puzzle of your life......Jack is at the age where all things are new and exciting....dedicate this year to museums, science centers, movies, we have a lot of skywalks in our city.....go skywalking. It will go by fast and u will be grateful for the rest of your fatherhood! You have great support. ❤
Derek... when you are cleared to do so, physical therapy in the pool is the best for your muscles!! In addition, when you are ready for your shower, get a shower bench with handles on the side, that way he can sit down while he is taking his shower, that is if you have a walk in shower. They are also adjustable on the legs, but make sure the pegs that hold the legs up are all the way through the hole so it doesn't slip... it would cause the chair to shift, and that wouldn't be safe. My husband and I use one that is a shower bench that glides over the tub. I would recommend however to wait on your shower until you are more steady, and feel safe to do so.
When my husband had foot surgery, I used a plastic trash bag to cover his foot and used an adhesive bandage to hold it on and to keep his bandage dry, it worked well. You are in my prayers Derek, take it easy and do not rush your recovery!!! You have a great big helper named Jack who will be there for you. You've got this.... take care! 😊❤😊❤😊

Yes, I remember she did the bulk of the move to their new house. Someone said hire a housekeeper to give Sarah a break - and that’s a good idea. Derrick, make sure you follow the doctor’s orders about the year of ‘inactivity’ this time around.

He doesn't take any of this seriously. He acts like a teenager and thinks it's all fun and games while his wife has to do everything. He's just another kid to her. She will eventually get sick of catering to him and fi d someone that can be a husband and hands on father to the kids the way they deserve.maybe he's had too many head injuries.
My partner had broke his leg under the knee. 2 openings. Best to help with a wash down until strong enough to go get shower . Use a chair in the bathroom & wash his back , legs & feet

Hi you two……..have had both knees replaced a year apart…….follow exactly the DR’S ORDERS AND THE PT’s…..I did my PT’s exercises at least 3 times a day, some times 4. I amazed my PT’s and DR. Over 50 years for both of them. The ice machine helps so much….my husband was so good to keep it refilled…even bought ice to refill more often. Propped up according to their directions. The pain will go away…go off the high octane pain meds and use Ibuprofen then Tylenol…don’t take more than you’re suppose and exercise, exercise, exercise!!!! You will be so happy you had this done….am a retired RN and a not lying, my man…..live to you both, Jack and Sunny!!!🎉❤😎👌🏻

On Jan 22 I fell tripped at work and broke my hip. I saw this post and I want to tell you I’m praying for you…not only am I cheering you on to your healing but Jesus, Abba Father God and Holy Spirit are cheering you during your healing. My last 3 weeks have been nerve rattling and very hard I am praying that you will have a quick recovery and Jesus makes His presence known. I’m praying for angels to watch over your family and you. I fell back in September and broke my left femur and right tibia. I have been in severe pain and am walking slowly on my walker for short distances. My tibia is not healing like my dr wants so when I go back in April if it's not healed I may have to have a bone graft surgery. I know your pain and I have been praying that God will take this pain away from my legs. God bless you and may He heal your hip soon!

Hey Derrick Praying for your recovery. Dont push it and dont feel guilty about healing or how long it takes. Don't look at it negatively take it a day at a time. You can do it right or not be able to do it at all. Time will go by quickly.

You MUST take it easy Derik . Years ago I had total (left knee) replacement and had to wear a knee immobilelizer because my knee ( and leg) had to stay straight . It took some getting used to but I did what my orthopedist told me to do. Now I have no cartilage left in my right knee so starting physical therapy in April

I'm a 70-year-old woman who lives in Minnesota. On December 10 I fell on a little patch of ice and broke my right shoulder and my right knee and tore my meniscus in my right knee. On December 11 I had surgery to correct both both were open surgeries with seven pins and a plate in each extremity. I was nonweightbearing on my arm meaning that I couldn't lift myself up with my hand. I couldn't push with my hand until February 1. I am still nonweightbearing on my right leg until March 7 will be 13 weeks nonweightbearing. Just tell Derek hang in there. The open surgery didn't really hurt that much. I only used the painkillers for one week and now I just use Tylenol and I've learned how to transfer from my bed to the wheelchair without using my right leg at all. You've got this Derik. I had the brace on for 8 weeks.

Absolutely, I agree. Housekeeper and maybe a tween to help with the kids. Playing with them and giving Sarah sometime for a bubble bath and a good book etc. Don’t wait until you are exhausted. You deserve it!
So sorry for your pain Derek. I hope they have done the repair correctly this time. This is much more of an invasive surgery, which means a bigger incision and they’re cutting through muscles, which causes more pain. My son-in-law is a fireman and was injured on the job. He was hit by a rogue fire hose in the side of the knee and had to have surgery. After 15 months, he finally just went back to work. Take care of yourself and don’t push it. This one year of your life, or maybe even a little more, will be nothing compared to the many decades you have left with your family. I broke my back at the age of 19 and have had many spinal surgeries so I understand that too well. Follow your doctors orders, they’ve seen what can go wrong and what creates the best outcome. They did it correctly last time, he did far too much activity too soon after surgery and trashed it.
I hurt for you. I have had meniscus repair, 2 femur repairs and a shoulder replacement. The pain right after is unbearable. Bless you heart. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Awww I can't say I can feel your pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!! Make sure u listen to physio and the Dr's.. and of course your amazing wife and kids!!My daughter who is now 16. When she was I grade 8 she jumped not even a foot off the ground in gym class and really badly dislocated her knee!! I got to the school b4 the ambulance i was NOT prepared at all to see what had happened to her! Her knee was literally on the side of her leg!! Being a parent i had to act like oh its all good, not too bad at all!!! When the ambulance came to get her they shot fentanyl up her nose to help with the pain!! Once she got to the hospital she was given some stuff to sedate her so they could get it back in place! The only thing she kept saying was, PLEASE don't cut my shoe off! These are my fav ones!! After we chuckled they did what they needed to. It happened again another 8 times! Poor kid! One time in our pool, the ambulance drivers do not go in the water at all so the firefighters came and not 1 HOT one out of 8 of them! Thankfully she finally got surgery,, it devasted her and the set back was hard to accept! As she is an avid softball player! She had just made a top team and was unable to play... it crushed her as well as her spirit! She struggled a lot! Couldn't go to school for a month, as she couldn't sit at the desks without the brace hurting her leg!!
I know you are thinking about when you can snow board again! It will come sooner then you think!! As long as you listen to everyone around you!! Don't try to go full speed right away in physio as you will be be told to slow down or even will make it worse! But she was so determined to get better really fast! So she could play ball!! Sadly she had to miss 1 1/2 seasons! She came back harder then ever before!
Try to stay positive and keep reminding your self THIS IS JUST TEMPORARY!! Best of luck with healing!

I'm praying for a 100% recovery for you, Derrick. I feel for you. I've been there, and it is not pleasant at all. I had problems trying to get comfortable because of the pain, and trying to sleep at night was awful post-op for 2 months, then it took me close to 8 months before I felt myself again. I pray that you will heal much quicker.
Aww Jack is being so helpful Sara I'm going to pray for you. Rest when you can, maybe some cat naps. Swimming is excellent for taken the pressure off your knee til it's completely healed. You guys are the sweetest, and no more flogging for a while. You're doing a splendid job with your children. Jack you're the greatest helper. Keep us updated!
Oh my Derek...you dear SOUL....let me make you feel BETTER....it's always good to realize others have MORE misfortune.......comparably speaking....I've have 29 surgeries....and I feel friggin fantastic...GOD IS GOOD....!!!!!!

I'm also praying for you Sarah! I've never been in your shoes, but I do know what it's like to suffer a great deal of pain! I know it must be very difficult on both of you!!
I do agree with what others are saying. You do need someone to come clean the house to help you out, instead of having so much on your plate! It's a choice! Just know that you do have options, even if it's just once a week! That would help tremendously!!

Same kind of thing for me. Had root repair 12/22, knee replacement later this month. We do what we have to, in order to get moving again. Do your rehab, take care until it's healed. Blessings all around, prayers for healing for you.

Ice, Ice, Ice!! I've had multiple knee surgeries on both knees plus recently both knees replaced. An ice pack will help with the pain and help keep the swelling down. I'm surprised they didn't send you home with an ice machine!! Good luck with your recovery!

Prayers for you guys. Seems like you’ve been through so much lately, but you sure brightened up when Sara came in with red hair!!! She does look beautiful as a red head! I’ve had 5 back surgeries finally the drs and the state said no more and now I wish I’d never had one!! You’re lucky you have a beautiful loving family to help you heal. Take your time the snow and the oceans will be there when you are fully recovered. Please take it easy I know you don’t want the pain pills but don’t let the pain get to bad before you take them, it just takes longer for them to work.

Had my right knee replaced twice in 18 months. Ice is your friend. I had a machine that iced it for me. It’s extremely painful to have your knee operated on. Prayers for healing. Follow drs orders you want to heal.

Derrek, I had a knee replacement 13 months ago, and I still feel like I am improving. Try aquatic therapy once you are able to. It helped me tremendously. Good luck with your recovery!!

Derik, I am happy you came out of surgery okay and everything went well. Please take every precaution to let that knee completely. You’re young with very little toddlers and they are going to need their Daddy to be physically healthy. Jack will be playing sports soon and he will need you. Derik you have a huge case of FOMO, but you can’t let that overwhelm you. Don’t do anything strenuous until that knee is completely healed. Prayers ongoing for you and your beautiful family 🥰.

Prayers for healing. I have learned after 40 plus surgeries to strictly follow the doctors directions. I hired a housekeeper when took a huge load off.

You guys are so special! I love watching y’all! I’m so sorry y’all are going through this again! My ACL exploded back in July and I tore my meniscus and 3 weeks ago I re-tore my meniscus and the scar tissue that came in from the ACL also tore! I promise you motion is key!! Don’t push yourself farther that’s you can go but push your self a little bit further than comfortable. Be consistent with Physical Therapy and make sure to do the exercises at home too. And when you can start working out do some easy quad exercises to build your muscle back up!
Definitely watch the ads to help you kids out. You're doing a great job, Sarah. Keep up your strength and sanity 😉
