    I am binge watching your videos that I just found this week. I am off-the-charts inspired by you Miss May! You are a hall of fame teacher! I have been watching Real Rap with Reynolds for a couple of years now and just found your channel pop up on the side as suggested when watching his. Feeling so blessed that teachers like you guys share with the rest of us so we can strive to become excellent teachers as well, and spread the joy around! Amen...God always finds a way, yes ma'am He does! Since you mentioned making more videos, I'd love to hear more about how you do the following: privileges that The Firstie of the Week gets, special helper jobs--if you do these?(like erasing the board, quickly running something over to a neighboring teacher, line leaders after everyone has had a chance of being a firstie of the week, etc.), your system of everyone cleaning up at the end of the day (are there different clean-up duties, or what), share about some of your favorite special programs/visitors your schools have done like firefighter visits and so on (and how you prepare your kiddos for how to behave during that), all your favorite books that you read aloud to the kids throughout the year, what videos you like to show to your kids and the discussions you generate with them after those, I'd love to know how to play the Kickin it with Kindess board game you made up, all about the do's and don'ts for indoor recess, when you eat lunch with a student what are the questions you ask them/conversation topics you try to cover, gifts--for students before Christmas break & holidays like valentines day & at the end of the year & for teachers & what you have the kids make for their parents (if anything) & what you compile for the kids to take home at the end of the year (like a book of their artwork?) & gifts for the teacher you student taught under or gift ideas to give a student teacher who you were over & for collogues (there's always so many to give and a tight teacher budget) AND what have been some of your favorite gifts that you've received as a teacher, maybe just an entire video about end of the year wrap-up, class parties you've done with help from the room Mom and what's been successful/or not and what's helpful during those, do you do "tickets out the door?", I'd love to see you act out an entire day as a teacher so I can see after greeting everyone at the door when do you turn on your good morning song? etc., where are your favorite wardrobe places to shop, what are some of the extra fun/extra special lessons you've done that went really well, what do you have your kids do for morning work, what are your favorite things to have parents come help with when they volunteer to be in the classroom, your favorite field trips, favorite emergency food stashes to have on hand for harder days (aside from your hersheys kisses), how to handle when an offended teacher or parent wants to see you reprimanding an offending student more than you feel necessary and confront you about it, time increments you schedule your parent-teacher conferences for and how you keep them moving smoothly so they don't take all night each night, things you do to establish a good relationship with parents--what are things you've noticed your parents like--hoe much communication do they want and what forms of communication have most of them preferred, that's probably good for starters (I can always add more when I have more questions)! hugs!

    Love these mini-lesson videos, Miss May! Speaking of lining up... I was curious if you have advice for kids lining up after recess? We have a good routine for leaving the classroom, but when all three 2nd grade classes are outside for recess it is a disaster lining up to come inside. Usually we blow the whistle and they are supposed to line up in order, each class next to each other. One teacher and TA is always on duty. It just gets crazy though. 🤪
    I have a few ideas for next year, but would love any tips! Thank you so much! ❤

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  Год назад +2

      You are so welcome. Yes, we blow the whistle twice at recess. One means stop and drop kneeling to the ground. The second blow means run to your line and line up in line order. Anywhere we are they always line up in their assigned order. ((HUGS))

    Two quick questions, at what point do you have them push in their chairs, if they aren't on their learning spot, is this at 5 or 4? Also, is there a pre or during countdown procedure you like to follow for having them gathering items such as lunch boxes/water bottles they may need to take with them?

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  Год назад +1

      So when my kids are at their seats and I begin announcing the countdown, they stop immediately and leave everything at their seat. Music is always their cue to clean up and go to their learning spot on the carpet. Once in awhile I'll countdown from their desk. Not often. My lunch procedure was as follows the last four years. Mind you I was teaching in the portable. I would have my kiddos on their learning spot before recess. I would announce for Firsties who brought their lunch from home to get their lunch boxes and place them on their tables. Then they would come back and sit down. Once everyone was back to sitting down I would do the line up countdown. When recess was over we go back to the classroom grab lunches and head to lunch. Now, I will have to do something different this year, because I'm back in the building. Hope this helps. ((HUGS))

    I really like these mini-lessons, Miss May. They are very helpful. I have one question - how would you line up if you do not have numbers or you cannot stick numbers onto your floors? I would love to assign a number to each student, but am unsure if we can stick them on the tile floors. Thanks!

    • @OneFABTeacher

      Line number is just alpha order on my roster. To be honest, I have a zero tolerance of the not getting along. I truly create a classroom environment that promotes kindness, trust, and community. It’s all in how you set that tone those few months of school. ((Hugs))

    Do you think it’s wrong to teach students to speak in the morning when entering the room? Also, what about when students responds with “what” instead of yes. Do you think that’s disrespectful or no big deal?

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  Год назад +1

      I do expect my students to respond to me when they enter the classroom. If I have a really shy kid they can start by whispering it in my ear. Once they get inside and if they choose to do something alone that's fine too. Eventually, that comfort zone will get better. I do not tolerate that. "What" is NOT an option. LOL ((HUGS))

    How you choose the line leader of the week?

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  Год назад +1

      I do an activity called, Firstie of The Week. The Firstie of The Week is started mid or end of September. I choose the very first one. I choose them based on my observations over the first few weeks of school. They're first in line for the whole week. They choose a new Firstie on Friday's and that person is the next one the following week. We alternate so if I choose a boy, they choose a girl. However, if I choose a girl, then the following week they choose a boy. I only choose the very first time and then they're responsible for choosing after that. You could easily draw names from a jar and choose each week. When someone is chosen their name from the jar goes in the trash. Hope this helps. ((HUGS))
