I've never watched her show, but I saw her for the first time (of course) in New Movies Scooby-Doo and this one episode for me is one of my favorites not only in this show but also in the Scooby-Doo series and, in my opinion, underrated. And the duo of Scooby-Doo and Jeannie is something beautiful, I would like to see more of them.

As previously noted, Rumiko Takahashi was inspired to create "Urusei Yatsura" from watching shows like "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" and "BEWITCHED" in her youth (in fact, in one manga story adapted for TV, Lum appears to Ataru as a genie, looking very similar to the animated "Jeannie").

Fun Fact: Joe Besser from the later Three Stooges lineup, did the voice of Babu, and several other HB characters. He always gets a bum rap because he had to step into some pretty big shoes that were previously filled by Curly and Shemp, but I always kinda found him endearing.

He also had a one-time guest stint on the Partridge Family as one of Laurie's many boyfriends. Some people in show business sometimes settle for cartoon VO work when they're moonlighting on live-action shows, just to help pay the bills, until something better comes along. For example, there's Sally Struthers as the voice of Pebbles in the Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show about the very same time she was signed on for All in the Family. But it wasn't until after Star Wars had really taken off, did he start getting job offers for more steady work.

The probable lost egg of these shows right here.
However you can't reply to older comments now, but people don't be daft like some of the people further down. Don't rely on what your bad teachers taught you. Recycling and Adapting have always been healthy parts of the entertainment industry. It was true in mythological stories, cultures borrowed and changed events to suit them. There are thousands of fairy tale stories from later periods that people did the same thing too. "Oh i like this formula, let's make our own version" so much so people had to make systems to categorize them by types.
This bled into lots of books too. If you only know of a few, you might be a bit clueless that a lot of authors wrote plenty of similar things that you may be tempted to say they "ripped themselves off" but those terms are ignorant. Hell a lot of genres you enjoy today, detective, super heroes, soap operas, etc, all of those pretty much sprung off the first person who put the elements together and others copied the formula to make their own stories. This wasn't bad then, it's not now. It's just how it works.
The movies, tv and cartoons are no exception. Hell yes Hanna Barbera milked formulas as much as they could. it's part of their success. However don't be blind to the fact that you just as easily write off many Disney and WB cartoons as following basic formulas, they are just as guilty. You can't say "never mind the differences" on this show, yet give something else a pass when they read it back to you.
No one's forcing you to say you like something you don't, but in this age you are spending your free time on youtube, you have enough time to be using this internet to learn some of the correct history that's there for you to find. Ignorance doesn't make you look cool kids.

Actually, '19Chuck', Fred Silverman {CBS' chief programmer for prime-time AND Saturday mornings} wanted to adapt some classic "fantasy" comedies of the '60s for his 1973-'74 schedule: Filmation gave him "MY FAVORITE MARTIANS", and Hanna-Barbera produced "{Teen}JEANNIE", which became the #1new show on Saturdays that fall. To generate interest for the new series, Silverman had "Jeannie" and "Babu" guest star on "THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES" about a week after it premiered in September 1973...

@MissInvisible11 Not exactly. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera in association with Screen Gems, who also produced the "I Dream of Jeannie" series. It was intentionally created to be loosely based on the orig. series to help draw in an audience. You could see it as a 70's version of cartoon reboot of the earlier show maybe or simply a spinoff perhaps since IDoJ went off the air in 1970 and this toon coming out in '73.

This Hanna-Barbera cartoon ran for one season as part of CBS' Saturday Morning schedule from 1973 until 1974. This was based on the live-action prime time sitcom
"I Dream of Jeannie". But in this version,Jeannie is a innocent,wild-eyed mischievous teenager who gets into more trouble than ever.

There couldn't BE any overt "sexual situations" because this was supposed to be a children's cartoon (no more than a typical "ARCHIE" cartoon, although in the comic books, there were no objections to, say, Betty and Veronica looking as "sexy" as possible without "pushing the envelope"). So, the only "sexy" thing about the teenage Jeannie was her appearance. Julie McWhirter (an impressionist now married to Rick Dees) was her voice because she could sound like a teenaged Barbara Eden...

I was a huge fan of the live-action ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ and of ‘Bewitched’, because the special effects were so impressive to me. I was always asking my mom or my dad “how’d they do that?” I was totally unimpressed with this cartoon because no special effects were required.

No, he did a couple of things before then: He was Sean in WIZARDS in 77, and he did some voices for NAUSICAA and CASTLE IN THE SKY in the mid 80s. I just wasn't aware he'd done any voice work before STAR WARS.

    @Guciom
That's because the "Magical Girlfriend" genre, which "Ah My Goddess" belongs to, was heavily influenced by "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie", both shows being very popular in Japan back in the 60s.

Problem with getting someone to show this show is that Screen gems owns the rights to all the characters except babu. Not Hanna Barbera

    I belive it is.
@Guciom the whole genre that AMG comes from was inspired by bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie

Even more of a male ego trip than the original series, and therefore BETTER! Thanks for posting - I finally understand why I've always had a vague angst about ponytails. I guess that whole Star Wars thing was just a detour for Hamill between his early and later career as a voice actor.
