Can you a video on the Knights Templar, one of the most popular and probably wealthiest Knightly order of medieval Europe. When and why it was founded, how did it function, which major conflicts they participated in, some of the well known members and ultimately what led to their demise.
Something that I've noticed on every video on Teutonic conquest in the Baltics is that Samogitian lands are always included within the Crusader lands. A common misconception. Nobody truly controlled the Samogitian lands up until 1430ish, not even the Lithuanians. They are the Scotland of the Baltics in essence. The only reason that it is believed that Teutons controlled these lands was via order of king Jogaila when he granted them lands that he didn't own and that Crusaders couldn't secure. Despite that I love your channel, it is always nice to get new perspectives. Can't wait for more videos :]
I sure hope the marriage restriction doesn't come back to bite them in the ass when they suddenly need a influx of new members to replace a sudden massive loss in numbers.
Lets say that would be complicated. First the nationalistic stories of the lands the Knights ruled over did (with some reason) has not the best memory towards them. Their conquest was brutal and full of religious bigottery, and of course both Polish and also Baltic and Russian national myths despise them as enemies.Second and more important, their conquest was idealized by radical German Nationalists a lot and that left with good reason a foul taste in the mouth of many, since both thr Freikorps after the First World War and the Nazis did pay a lot respect towards them (or the picture they had from them). They were "perfect" example for the stupid story of that it needed German to "civilize" the lands (and look down on the native people). No wonder that they are not liked. So to make them the heroes is difficult, to say the least, and I would understand iwant to avoid such things.
