This might sound patronizing but I mean it to be encouraging: the whole “I need to figure things out RIGHT NOW” is a very late-teens/early twenties mindset thing, the reality is that it takes a lifetime

Emily So true. I remember philosophically analyzing everything. I had to know if I believed in God, if I believed in the death penalty, if morales can be culture dependent, what percentage of me was gay or straight. Now, I’ve accepted there isn’t really a clear answer for any of those things. Sigh.

I thought I was trans from the ages 14-18. I lived as a boy in high school. Due to family issues, I had to move in with my Dad and finish out my senior year in a new school. I had the choice to live as a girl or as a guy, I still questioned myself even after thinking I felt 100% trans. I chose to live as a guy and it didn't stick well with others. People were nice about it, except a few kids here or there (that's always expected), and I was welcomed by my friends when I came out to them.
I went to therapy because of what happened when I lived with my Mom (it's nothing too bad but it effected me a lot). My therapist was a very open person and had worked with trans people before, most of them actually transitioning with her help and some choosing not to.
I went for a year, learned to fully accept myself and how I was born, and deeply considering my life as either a boy or a girl. I was accepted as both and this troubled me a lot because I then questioned why I expect to be treated differently as one or another.
I thought being a woman was worse than being a man, so I wanted to be a man to be treated with respect. I was wrong to think this and the realization hit me really hard. I'm 21 now, I identify as Agender, and I'm completely comfortable with myself.
I had a huge identity crisis, and I think I've always questioned who I was and what role I play in other peoples lives. I also saw that my ways of thinking aren't perfect and I have a lot to work on internally.
I'm very thankful I never went too far into transitioning. And I'm sorry this is long, it feels good to rant.

Once I had began to pass very easily as my birth sex (female), that's when I knew my detransition was over. I had trained my voice to be more feminine (androgynous), my hair is in a nice style, the way I dress is feminine (I used to wear more GNC clothing while freshly detransitioned), my makeup routine is stable... Overall just accepting femininity has been a blessing.

    • @WafflingWillow
      @WafflingWillow 4 года назад +12

@@mootpoint36 Not a dumb question at all, if you mean going off of testosterone. According to some other FtM detransitioners, estrogen, over time, tightens their vocal folds similar to how they were before the effects of T. Perhaps I was impatient to be registered as female so I voice trained a bit to a more feminine range. Estrogen has helped smooth it out a bit. We'll need more cases to determine if estrogen really heightens the vocal folds over time, because right now, I'm not entirely convinced it does anything substantial.

I identified as "not a girl" since I was 12, before I even knew what trans was, and I was out publicly and passing for about two years before I formally decided to "detransition", I feel kind of weird about using that word because I never underwent medical transition but the process of just stopping seeing myself the way I had been for years was intense and I'm only now 3 years later finishing it, I'm 21 in about two months and I feel like I'm just starting the whole teenage finding your identity thing. I can be actually confident as a woman now and explore femininity in a way that used to just make me hate myself and it's so unbelievably healing and freeing to be able to go out in a dress or a crop top and feel comfortable, and I'm really grateful to you and the other RUclipsrs who talk about their experiences with detransition for helping me get there. Seeing how much things are improving for you and how much happier and more hopeful you are makes me really really happy, it's really hard to realise all these things about handling mental health and make those decisions about what to do about it and I'm really proud of you, I'm excited to see whatever content you put out next 💕

One of the things that concerned me about quarantine was the number of college students having to go back to live at home after having begun establishing themselves and their independence (having the freedom to establish their identities) at college. Some of them don't have "affirming" or supportive environments for them and I prayed for them that they would get through it.

For five years I identified as a guy, and I also went by the name Luke. For five years I told others to call me that name along with he/him, and I spent so much time agonizing over passing. I had so, so much anxiety and depression. I'm proud to call myself a woman again, and I've come to terms with just being a butch lesbian... even if I still have dysphoria sometimes. It's a tough journey. But in my opinion, coming to terms with who you are rather than living a lie is definitely worth the pain. I'm really proud of you! (And btw, your voice is super attractive right now lol.)

Hi Elle, Paula from London uk. Am so glad you are at last coming to terms with everything. I agree with you that we shouldn't define ourselves soley by gender. If you remember from my previous msgs I am m to f post op 31 yrs so I have had a lot of experience in the matter.
Gender is not really important and your character is what defines you. I admire you for what you are doing, I wasn 't brave enough to detransition for fear of the critical comments I would have had from friends and family. I still live 'in exile' here in London, 270 miles from my family
My 5 brothers don't really accept me but I no longer care. It is more important to be a good person and let your light shine through.

@Sienna Waters Most people, while you're out and about, don't usually care who or what you are. I agree that character is the most important and most people will agree. I just get annoyed when someone acts like what they are deserves some sort of praise or like they're owed something because of it. I was raised with manners and to treat everyone the same, regardless of who or what they are.

Hi Elle... I don't know how else to put it so I'll just be straight out with it.... my aunt transition from male to female and I think it was the best choice for her she has never been happier.... unfortunately she passed away 12 years ago, it was suicide but unknowing. She loved her husband very much and he loved her... I miss them so much but my point is...... you are gorgeous and there are times where I hear you talkin down yourself. If it makes you feel any better if I didn't know I would have never thought anyting. My grandmother was a contralto.... a female bass singer. She had a five-octave vocal range so she could sound quite feminine but she could sing Bass with the big boys and would often have fun competing with men and would often win with who can sing the deeper note. You do not sound like a man you had a very soothing pretty speaking voice. I'm glad that you're finally able to move past this and I'm glad that you have a boyfriend. Even if you were straight up lesbian I would still be happy for you. I will not keep going on and on, I'm just trying to reach to the internet and give you a really big hug and say bless you sweetheart...

I made my decision, got a therapist, started hormones, changed all my ID and birth certificate and had top surgery ALL within 90 *DAYS*. I often wondered if I made the right decision - I was in total emotional hell (I was 37 at the time) and I was running from being "me" -- male or female. I have always felt I am trans, but I'm not certain that I would have transitioned if I had been in a different head space all those years ago. Today I am pretty happy about being me and being male but I do feel sad that relationships are far and few. It's been a pleasure to see the tender thoughts and experieces you shared and I wish you amazing luck to you in your future.

Or... if you don't want it to be about de-transitioning, it seems to me that the underlying issue is the medicalization of spiritual/ emotional issues and also the question of what parents and society best can do when children make assertions that could change their lives. So keep the core issues? Or whatever you want! but I do notice that channels that do well tend to have a theme.... Best of luck to you!

What you say about not being able to differentiate the negative feelings created by an uncomfortable living situation from your feelings regarding the world and other areas of your life, is SO PROFOUND. I feel sure we all have trouble with that, and it's so dangerous when we conflate maybe one thing that needs to change (like where we're living) with an unhappiness with all of life. I'm happy you figured that out and that you got what you needed. I'm okay now, but I wish my depressed teenage self had been able to hear this truth from someone.

I see more and more detransition videos lately. I couldn’t possibly know why people detransition since I’ve never had gender related issues but I think that this should be a wake up call for the governments that want to vote for 6year old children to be able to decide if they want a sex change and let them start hormonal therapies. Transition is clearly a decision that should be made by adults and more importantly mentally healthy ones. I wish you all the best in your new life. You look great... Violet Lhant what lies did I spread exactly? The Swedish government proposed a law that from the age of 15 one can undergo genital surgery. They could start a hormonal therapy from the age of 6-7. All that would require no parental permission. It’s all over the internet if you would simply google it. Minors can’t drive, drink , vote or smoke but they are mature enough to take a life changing decision? This girl here is one of the many examples that the choices we make as teenagers are not always the best ones. It is an experimental part of our lives and maybe nowadays, that the sex change is a thing, teenagers can actually be confused about what they want. My opinion is that a teen should experiment with clothing before deciding to change sex when adult.

    • @sailorviolet92

Violet Lhant pretty reasonable? Do you really think teenagers are mature for such decisions? Or are you a teenager yourself and still think that the world revolves around you? We stay secure for ourselves individually while meeting at least a few times each week, doing errands, getting groceries, hanging out together watching DVD or Internet movies, just talking and sharing our moments.
We are careful. We wear masks when we ride the city bus, when we go grocery shopping, when we do errands together. We ate at our favourite Chinese buffet restaurant just fine. We keep our ‘social distance’ when there are strangers.
