I liked your comment “listen to your saw.” That was one of the hardest concepts to get across when I was teaching Industrial Arts, you need to use ALL OF YOUR SENSES when working with any tool. The sound, feel, look smell and some times even taste will tell you how your tools are working. It’s sometimes referred to as “flying by the seat of your pants.”
Mindful and engaged are the buzzwords now. It is a shame that they took both music and shops out of the middle schools that require full engagement and would do more for the kids than video games which are a ghost of the real thing.
Grow up farming with old tractors, you always had to listen to the motor to tell you what was going on, from plowing ground to running an auger filling grain bins. Also running a mill or lathe, how fast you run the tool and how fast you feed. Watch the chip and listen to the cut, they will tell you if you are doing things correctly.
Another great sawing video! Enjoyed every minute of it. Mark you are a very methodical and careful head sawyer. I marvel at how you think your way through each log as the faces open up. It was great that you had a chance to saw some fresh oak and avoid the loose bark and stained wood. That Pin Oak looks like it is very dense and heavy wood but your saw was melting right through it like butter! You are blessed to have the “A Team of off-bearers working on the heavy end of the sawmill. THE Eddie and Buzzsaw Buzz had their work cut out for them this time with all of those 2” oak planks falling off the log! Great job once again! Thanks for all of your hard work!
Hello Marc , in watching your video today and hearing you sort of talking to yourself reminding yourself that you need this and this and this is interesting because even though I don’t have a mill and do anything close to what your working at , it’s great for me to know there are others talking to themselves just the way I do trying to get stuff straight in my head ! Thanks for all your videos ! 🤩
Trying to get stuff straight in my head but then I've got to make lists. Paper memory supplement. My memory is about as long as my genitalia and that is not a good thing. I suppose if I had a smart phone I could my lists the modern way. But I don't have one, don't want one. Just call me paranoid, especially after the tracking done on Jan 6. I've thought for years that the GPS and tower locating is just a bit too much Big Brother. There's a reason Obama gave away so many free cell phones. Sorry if I got "political". Seems you got to be careful what you say these days.

You sounded a bit pissed off today? Remember, always look up at the stars and not down at your feet. I appreciate your guy's hard work and look forward to every Thursday eve video. Stay safe guy's and keep up the good work
Some yrs back I secured a Big Job hualing some big press dies. The where 99" wide and 16'Long and weighted about 24-27 Ton each. And I had 30 of them to move (to start). So I had a local amish guy cut me 6, 4"x6"x102" pieces of Pin Oak, Talk about heavy.... Then I counter sunk and bolted 2 of them together (Giving me 8" of height) and bolted them them to the deck of my 35 ton low boy. They where using a 50 ton tow motor that had forks that where 4" thick in the middle, and 6" at the rear to load these dies with. I put one set of these blocking boards under each end of the die. And one in the center. Which gave the tow motor operator plenty of room to get out from under the die after setting it on the trailer. That grumpy (Pittsburgh) tow motor operator was nearly beside himself when he saw this set up. And since they where bolted down, They didn't move. But they where a pain to set up, So I just left them that way till I was done. That little blocking trick secured me enough work for the next 4 months. Just because the grumpy tow motor operator didn't have to fight with 3x4's or even 4x4's and he loved that low boy trailer. That was best $150.00 I ever invested. And that pin oak hardly had a scratch on it when I was done. Having 3 points of contact on the trailer, They rode like a dream. There's something to be said about having the proper dunage to get the job done correctly. And to make the operators job that much easier.

Hi Mark yourself and John are getting rid of alot of turtles lately 😂. I'm actually going to look at a band mill this weekend myself might be a new addition to my channel 😀
Hey Mark Love watching your channel, I also do some sawing (Woodmizer lt40) lots of woodworking ,retired from 40 years of EMS. Just wondering what’s the going rate for sawing in your area there. Thanks keep it coming, oh yea love your cabinet shop/videos
Hi Mark , Eddie & Crew I still love watching how you go about your daily work at the mill , we are in Lockdown again here in Victoria because of some people coming in to victoria from NSW even though our border's were supposed to be locked ... Oh well you can't put brains into tennis balls , Most of the states here in Australia have closed their Border's to try and stem different outbreaks of Corona Virus 19 , but you still get those who try to fluant the law's set out on the outbreaks ...
Love watching you guys saw. My so s and I just built a nice heavy duty sawmill and I'm wanting g to put a laser on it like yours what kind did you pick and would you recommend it
Maybe you can find a way to raise the rollers so that he can just push them back on. Maybe a foot pedal that hits a switch to raise it 3". Something to think about.
I usually notice the flags waving, even when there seems to be little wind outside (based on the lack of movement in the trees in the background). Is that wind just from the movement of the saw blade?
yeah I remember helping move framing when I was younger, and the wood flooring later in the building provess. It was surprising how 2oak tongue and groove floorboards often outweighed a 2x4 or even 2x6. The new Epe` stuff from Brazil is even worse, the dust is like ceder dust too, but it can't be beat.
Mark, your videos are mesmerizing, you and john are my first stops on youtube. thanks!. you make that machine work so effortlessly. i wonder if we could get a view of your console in action? if you've ever done that, i missed it. thanks again!
You just don't have the room for multiple size width and thickness in such tight quarters. If it were only one man, then the sawyer should help to load that carriage back up for the resaw boards. Tough calls to be made, but you gents are the men for the job I'd say!!
You can't appreciate the difference in weight of hardwood vs. pine until you handle it and try to work with it. There is a reason it is called hardwood. Thanks guys.
fantastic video again Mark and T.H.E. Eddie. i was wondering if it would be worth your while putting a flashing light on the wall opposite where Eddie stands, so that you can turn it on to grab his attention? as in when he's re stacking boards on the carriage for re sawing? just a thought, but once again awesome videos and channel guys, thank you
With 30 to 40% moisture content on fresh cut logs, not counting the actual weight of the wood (oak is pretty heavy) i'll wager Mark isn't far off a 2x12 12' board weighing 200 pounds.
Just an idea, , , , Have you thought about getting a computer and 2 small monitors placing one looking at you, next to the window, with the other facing Eddie, so that you can communicate with him and so that he can see orders when you put them on the screens so that both you and he can see them?
You know, I saw one of your older videos where you and Eddie and some other guys were building up the large shed and Eddie's power hammer wouldn't work correctly. He used it anyway. I'll bet John at fricknjeep wouldn't be caught dead with a power hammer, instead using the plain old manual hammer.

He came back the next day begging us to mill his wood cause no body in town would. I am just saying you have a person who know how to get the most out of a log like you Mark let him cut it. I like the Pin Oak
