What she captures so beautifully without any staging is the fragility of life. She has a stunning eye for detail and a highly-tuned sense of intuition. We owe her a tremendous debt for giving the world such a remarkable catalogue of life and never asking a single dime for it let alone an accolade. Vivian Maier truly was the photographic Van Gogh of her generation.

Fascinating, just fascinating. this video is almost 30 minutes but I've been watching for over an hour and just made it to the 14 min mark because I keep going back a few frames because something had caught my attention like perhaps the background, people, cars, building, the compositions and, of course, the multitude of reflections. This lady was gooood! Also kudos to the scanner. I just love the black, the whites, the tonal range in between. I'll probably spend another hour or two tomorrow to watch the second half of his video. Thanks for posting this.

All I can say is what incredible, thought provoking images and how sad she was only recognised for her photography after her death.
Thankfully someone recognised her talents and her photos, negatives and prints etc were saved. So we can now appreciate and be inspired by them.👍

Maier is, for me, one of the greats of candid street photography - & most certainly the champion of Rolleiflex cameras. The earlier monochromes are (for the most part) pin sharp - equal to anything that a modern contemporary Mirrorless camera can produce. There's soul & an all-too ephemeral feel to her work that few could replicate today. I have several of her books, & never tire of studying their composition, exposure latitudes, or the mood that she created with each photograph. Thank you for this reprisal !

I don't know much about photography, but I know masterful, beautiful images when I see them. She has quite the eye, and a knack for being in the right place at the exact right time, or else just knows what moments to look for. It's always sad seeing old photos, because you know most of the people and certainly all of the animals are now dead.

As a lifelong fine artist & pure creative myself, I strongly relate to Vivian Meyer's unique POV & genius for capturing photos of strangers in downtown neighborhoods at their most candid. Her wonderfully composed self-portraits via ornate & gilded mirrors in store displays through the storefronts' windows containing the secondary reflection of her capturing the shot, are genius at depicting in a single-shot photograph her ability to summarize the richness of her inner world in the layers of that single image, without any sort of post-editing. I am so happy that she is recognized, even though posthumously, from an accidental auction purchase by John Maloof, the film's co-director who discovered her work: I learned of her about 7 years ago from the documentary 'Finding Vivian Maier.' I see her as a creative peer: able to find the living blood & pulse of life in the most seemingly banal of settings

I learned a lot from this video ... I learned that Vivian photographed everything in her field of view, she photographed herself a lot (self portraits), she photographed all over the USA and into Canada and at some point she switched from her TLR to a RF 35mm ... the TLR was a ROLLIFLEX and the RF 35mm looked to be an early NIKON (I could stand to be corrected) .. and most of all I learned that this awesome lady was really well versed in photography and possessed an awesome artistic eye ....yes, I learned all that from this video, and did I mention that she had a special way of communicating ... Love and respect to Vivian ...

Some pictures are sad, melancholic, because there is what is on them.
But most of them are sad for me because that time is gone. One would like to be a part of those fragments of stories. Unfortunately, nothing can be returned. We live our amazingly sad time of cell phones and alienation. She deserved be in Magnum Photos agency.

These pictures may as well have come from another planet. The people's looks, their expressions their clothes, their activities--all show a seemingly foreign world. Or is it just the way VM chose to portray it? I've seen one reviewer judge her photography as boring, insipid. I believe it is quite the opposite. She saw her time on Earth like no other has.
