Oh man, I’ve never seen the Pizza Hut version of this before.
The original US release used Taco Bell.
Dude, that just tripped me tf out.
17:13 You can see the Taco Bell logo on the doors but at 18:13 it's Pizza Hut
I was shocked when first I saw the original US Taco Bell version in the US, after having finally seen a Taco Bell in real life. I'd grown up on the European Pizza Hut version with no Taco Bells within 1000s of miles.
That's what I remember too. It was Taco Bell.
@@ergoat The European version of "Demolition Man" substitutes Taco Bell for Pizza Hut, because it is know better there.
"I don't know if you actually wanna live in a world like that! No chocolate, no spicy food, no meat?!"
A girl after my own my heart.
"I don't think Sylvester Stallone will be blowing things-up." So cute.
"I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached!"
Almost no one catches that callback to the beginning of the movie when he knocks his head off. Good catch, Dasha!
Every video she posts I'm impressed with just how observant she is. She's reacted to movies I've seen DOZENS of times, yet still never picked up on some of the details Dasha spotted her first time.
yeah, she doesn't miss much. it's especially impressive for someone with ESL

“Blade” and “Passenger 57” are two good Wesley Snipes movies.
I like him in U.S. Marshalls and The Art of War as well.
Great recommendations! Lot's of RUclipsrs have reacted to "Blade," so it clearly has a strong following of viewers who pay on Patreon. It will probably get voted up on Dasha's Patreon poll eventually. On the other hand, "Passenger 57" seems to be criminally under appreciated. I hope some of the paying viewers will see your comment and be reminded that "57" is a fun and exciting movie that Dasha is sure to enjoy.
US Marshals was also pretty good, most people don't realize that it was actually a sequel to The Fugitive.

In the US version the restaurant was Taco Bell. It was Pizza Hut in the rest of the world. This is the first time I have ever seen the Pizza Hut version.
Uh, I think Taco Bell was the original line everywhere. It certainly was when I first saw it in New Zealand in 1996. In fact this is the first time I've seen it (or a reaction to it) with the Pizza Hut line
Yeah, I'm in UK and I've never heard this Pizza Hut version. Completely confused me. :O
The Pizza Hut dub was hilarious!!! I saw this back in the 90's and million times since and I HAVE NEVER !! ** clutches pearls*** 😂😂😂
The seashell thing never had an explanation. It was meant to mess with our heads. It was funny to see Dasha get confused 😆
Daha can use my Three Seashells any time
Whaaaat!?! Dasha was confused?!?
@@DjJokerr lol!
Theory: in Aristophanes' play "Peace", Trygaeus tells an armorer that his breastplates might be good for use as a toilet. He demonstrates-not with a live-fire exercise-and also mentions having three stones nearby. It is presumed that the stones are to prevent the breastplate from tipping while in use, but some suggest it is related to an Ancient Greek axiom on frugality, which I have not found, that roughly translates as "three stones are enough to wipe one's ass". The Greeks and Romans did use stones and pottery shards (ostraka) for that purpose. Samples have been found with "residue". Or it could all be a coincidence.
Stallone finally answered this existential question in 2006 while questioned about Rocky Balboa.
Q: - For the love of all that is good and Holy: How do you use the 3 seashells?!
A: - OK, this may be bordering on the grotesque, but the way it was explained to me by the writer is you hold two seashells like chopsticks, pull gently and scrape what’s left with the third. You asked for it…. Be careful what you ask for, sorry.
Further proof that if you want to create a great hero, you need to create a great villain.
"Don't cross the streams kind of shit" Lol. I loved that line! Dasha... You have been fined 1 credit for violation of the verbal morality statute! 😂
Demolition Man is a smart, fun movie and made some pretty good predictions of our current society! Wesley Snipes is obviously having the time of his life and I'm there for it
Well they're basically in a New World Order system. The 4th Industrial Revolution , what the World Economic Forum always talks about today. The 4th Industrial Revolution is about surveillance going under our skin. That's why in this movie u see all the civilians are mircochipped , can't bare arms , all dressed the same , and eat at the same places , there's a 1 world government, religion , and currency. That's definitely a NWO system. George Orwell wrote a book on in it called "1984" , they also made a movie on it called "1984" , and George Bush Sr announced we need NWO ideology in Congress September 11 , 1991. All that happened before this movie came out.
"pretty good predictions of our current society!" I don't know where you live where people are that friendly but it ain't in America.
@@Sam_Guevenne Have you seen your government? Lol.
@@Sam_Guevenne I never said life was like the movie
@@neilgriffiths6427 What have they banned ?
If you google the 3 sea shells, the joke has been used in a few other pieces of fiction as well. It's always funny when I see it in something else. They're in the bathroom in cyberpunk 2077
This was the era when Schwarzenegger and Stallone would put friendly teases at each other in their movies. Like Last Action Hero, in which they encounter a movie display that has Sylvester Stallone playing the Terminator.
And Twins, where Arnold laughs at Stallones arms he sees on a movie poster
And True Lies-when Jamie Leigh' s charcharacter says "I married Rambo"in her film with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Yes I always loved that moment!
Pizza Hut? Everyone knows that Taco Bell won the Franchise Wars!
This is interesting. I have seen this movie a million times and this is the first time I have seen the revised Pizza Hut version. It used to be Taco Bell but I guess they changed it to be a more recognized brand.
Yeah I tripped out thinking I fell victim to another Mandela Effect. But you can see the Taco Bell logo on the doors as they enter the building.
Lol yeah.
They changed the name in some non-American releases because Taco Bell wasn't really known in many foreign countries at the time. I got this from the trivia section of IMDB page for Demolition Man. It just looks weird when their mouths say one thing but another is heard in the movie. Its funnier with Taco Bell because their food is dirt cheap compared to other restaurants, and its funny to invite someone to a formal dinner at the cheapest restaurant. :D
Ching!
When this movie came out, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC were owned by PepsiCo Food System Inc which was a part of Pepsi Cola and FritoLay was also a member of the family.
Also, the rebel dude is Dennis Leary, a pretty famous comedian in the 90s and he's pretty much doing one of his bits.
..that he stole from Bill Hicks.
I'm sure the director pretty much just pointed him at a camera and said, "Go."

@@ergoat Name one comedian who has never used an idea from someone else.
@@dannygjk This wasn't a case of two similar views about airplane peanuts; Denis Leary very infamously stole entire bits, mannerisms, and punchlines from Hicks. Look it up.
Wow! I must confess I did not know there was another version where the only restaurants left were "pizza hut". The movie that I recall, all restaurants are "Taco Bell".
Your memory is faulty. It was "In-N-Out Burger".
@@StinkFingerr hahaha. My memory is not what It use to be hehe
something cool about this film is it has a lot of ideas and references to the book Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. Great book. For instance, sandra bullock's character's name is "lenina Huxley".
And there's a Lenina Crowne as a character in the book as well.
@@fr1day2 Yup, Lenina Huxley is a reference to that character + the author. “You’re a savage, John Spartan” is a reference to another major character in the book.
The guy playing the rebel leader is Denis Leary. He's a famous comedian from the time, known for doing exactly the kind of rants like he does in the movie, about eating meat and dying of high cholesterol.
Yep, that rant was pure Leary. He's also well known for his song Asshole which also has his ranty style. He's actually a very good actor too. I particularly liked him Rescue Me as firefighters in post 9/11 New York
@@carn9507 I never got around to watching Rescue Me.
Dennis Leary is awesome.
A.S.S.H.O.L.E ... everybody!!
It amazes me how well this movie has aged, and seems to be becoming more relevant in 2022 than when it even came out.
The 90s had a lot of great action movies and this was one of the best of them. Also check out Speed, The Rock, and Armageddon for more fun.
John Spartan: "But there's just one thing I wanna know..."
Lenina Huxley: "Hm?"
John Spartan: "How's that damn three seashell thing work?"
I still don't know....🐚👀
Nobody actually knows, unless you live there and were brought up with it.
The first shell is used to scoop the poo out, I know that much.
I get a kick out of hearing Dasha swear. She makes it sound endearing and adorable.
29 years... it's been 29 years since this movie came out... and we STILL don't know how to use the 3 shells! (Great movie... Glad you enjoyed it!)
You gotta watch blade
Blade is really good
Yes, that is another fun one. I don't know about the third one, but the first two were really good.
I'd say that Wesley Snipes as Simon Phoenix made this the great movie that it is. He's just awesome in that role.
Be careful when using the seashells Dasha! I always loved the social commentary on how everything even swearing has become illegal. You're right, who wants to live in a world where meat, spicy food, and sex have become illegal?
Thats kind of true, but also think about what it would be like to live in a wolrd were cops dont know what a MURDER is!

Pizza hut?? It was taco bell originally
Nope .watched that movie about 40 times in the 90s
It waa absolutely Taco Bell no question. Seen this movie dozens of times and this is the first time they called it pizza hut. Just looked it up shes watching the european version of the movie which changed due to copyright issues.
Yeah I realized that later that night but my post wasn't here/visible for me to correct
Yeah that threw me off lol
@@doreck07 and yet years ago I remember a Taco Bell / Pizza Hut restaurant? LOL
In the original version of this movie which was released in America, it's Taco Bell. When he said "Pizza Hut" i was like "wait what? I've seen this movie several times and it's Taco Bell". I just found out in the European release they dubbed over Taco Bell with "Pizza Hut" and changed the logo to the restarant in post production. I wonder why they did that?
It even has Taco Bell on the container of food being stolen.
Because at the time a lot of countries had no idea what Taco Bell was. They did know Pizza Hut and the parent company also owned Pizza Hut by the time the movie went to international release.
I am shocked that no one else has suggested "Oscar" here yet, that's peak Sylvester Stallone comedy, along with a very impressive cast of other great stars of the time!
Regarding the Pizza Hut/Taco Bell thing, Pizza Hut doesn't work as well because Pizza Huts at the time were somewhat nice, whereas Taco Bell was definitely drunk college student fare at best. The idea of _that_ being a fancy restaurant made the joke much funnier!
Oscar is so funny. So many good actors and so many good scenes.
@@leedog396 I will pile on. Oscar is a super funny movie and bonus, it has Tim Curry.
Heck yes "Oscar"!
Another funny part is how it pokes fun at his own speech patterns and accent; building up and building up to the punch lines.
The self-awareness at the joke about getting phrases wrong is delightful. It's all part of the fun of watching a foreigner enjoy our movies.
Wait what?? The Demolition Man I have, it was TACO BELL that survived the "franchise wars"... another film edit?
I think the European version had Pizza Hut surviving.

I have one word for people still curious about the seashells: quenelle.
back when this movie came out, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone had a friendly movie rivalry of which one was the tougher and action movie male lead. that is why there is the scene when he heard about Arnold being president and his reaction.
As much as I love Dasha's reactions, all I could think about was, "Dasha, your dog needs to go outside to do his business."
If you watch the movie version that was released in America, it has Taco Bell instead of Pizza Hut. The European movie release has Pizza Hut.
A great fun film. Sylvester Stallone wants to make a sequel to this.
I hope it doesn't happen. This movie is perfect being a stand alone no sequel film.
I wouldn't mind that .
Not sure what else they could do with it. I think it´s best to just leave it as it is.
"You got a lawyer, you better call him."
Apparently he DOESN'T and DIDN'T considering how easily he should've beaten those bogus charges.
Right. Very easily. They act as if we don't have the medical knowledge to determine when a body is dead before the fire and smoke gets to them. As much as I like this movie, it's one of those that is ridiculously easy to take apart after the fact. Such as how is it considered punishment to cryo-freeze someone? They're not supposed to have any memory during the cryo-freeze. Stallone's character did, but he wasn't supposed to. So you freeze these people and wake them up 15 to 20 years later and then what? They've served their time? All you did was create a time machine of sorts.
Have you read the news the past couple of years? Cops have been convicted on weaker evidence.
@@jeremybr2020 Supposedly they're undergoing re-programming while frozen, the idea being that "bad" thoughts and behaviors can be erased like a memory chip.
@@Caseytify And that's fine, but it's still far from what I would call punishment. And while it's a worthy goal to rehab criminals, there still has to be some sort of punishment factor for the wrongs they have committed.
@@Caseytify As far as cops being convicted on weaker evidence.... I would have to know some specifics before acknowledging the validity of that statement. Though it certainly wouldn't surprise me if it were true.
Wesley Snipes turned down the role of Simon Phoenix more than once. Really glad he changed his mind because he owned that role.
Wesley Snipes is the shit. This movie, White Men Can’t Jump, and New Jack City are his best roles in my humble opinion.

Another good Stallone action movie from the same year as this is "Cliffhanger." It lives up to its name.
I agree with closing statements.
Without salt, the hunka chunka, and swearing...what are we even doing here??
Funny thing, when the movie was in theaters it was "Taco Bell" who survived the Franchise War. They changed it to Pizza Hut years later for some reason. Licensing I assume.
In the theatrical release in Europe, it was changed to Pizza Hut, as Taco Bell hadn’t gotten over to Europe yet and no one would’ve known what Taco Bell was. As it stands, both restaurant chains are owned by the same parent company.
Taco Bell is an integral part of Demolition Man's legacy in the U.S., but in the European market, it was replaced by Pizza Hut. Also, the producers of the movie were looking for a deserted building to implode to promote the movie. They found such a building in Louisville, KY., and with Snipes and Stallone present, it happened. (WLKY coverage of Demolition Man promotion in Louisville KY (Belknap building implosion)) Keep up the Great work Dasha!!

For everyone saying this movie predicted current society, remember this too: it didn't last that long.
