As a qualified, professional and long time experienced racist, I can confirm they are grey areas. Southern Italians tend to have darker complexions, darker hair and eyes. Northern Italians can very often be blonde, fair skinned and blue eyed etc etc. Sicilians from the south have been mixed by invading groups like the moors or just generally mixed with other peoples like Greeks who tend to be darker skinned and their ethnic history is complex to break down in and of itself. So basically if you’re southern Italian or parents of southern heritage you’re likely genetically mixed and darker. If you’re northern Italian through and through much more likely to have Western European DNA and therefore fairer skinned and much more ‘white looking’. So grey area indeed.

No dude. We consider ourselves white. Perhaps Americans with “Italian heritage” don’t
They hate themselves for being White, so being able to call themselves anything else feels like flight for them.

Secondo me non ci pensiamo nemmeno
Ma come non ci pensate? La meloni e salvini parlano sempre come se italiano e bianco fossero sinonimi, in Italia se dici 'bianchi' si presume che parli degli italiani
He's talking about descendants of Italians in the US. There's a lot of white people there that don't consider themselves as being white because of the nationality of their ancestors. Although it's a big stretch to say that Italians/descendants of Italians are not white, it's true that in the past the US government didn't consider italians as white people and would discriminate them
@@Noah-yz7yx you know that the usa is literally just one country out of hundreds?
They're not real italians anyways, they're just americans and everyone laughs at them for their ignorance... They don't even know the capital of Italy and yet they claim to be from there. No one considers them italians if not themselves.
The 'white thing' is obviously dumb since in the us literally no one is considered white
@@Noah-yz7yxthats exactly the point. The frame of „white“ is not the tone of the skin color but a racist idea. So in italy people (especially in the north) consider themselves as „white“ and „european“ ~> more civilized as a racist consideration.
But in other contexts they can be seen as migrants and „less“ worthy etc. and being discriminated (in the US or Germany).
So it’s important to get the mechanism if racism as a dividing ideology to justify inequality, hate, distraction from real causes of problems etc. worldwide wherever inequality exists.
