Thanks Madison for reacting to this movie. As a old guy born in 1946...I relate to most of it. I still have the old Daisy Red Rider B.B. gun I had as a kid as well as my old 1949 Cushman motor Scooter I bought when I was 14 in 1961! I'm 76 and 1/2 now!
It is so sweet.. The one person he didn't think to ask - the Old Man - had his ears to the ground and knew what he wanted for Christmas.
The look on your face when he pulled the leg out of the crate! 😂
LOL!! 😆
The brand new one "A Christmas Story Christmas" is a wonderful tribute that takes place about 40 years later and all the kid cast is back.
Love the mom in this movie! The quiet way she keeps everything humming and the empathy she shows is so great!
I knew she looked familiar. The mom (Melinda Dillon) was in Close Encounter of the Third Kind (1977).
Teacher: "Has anyone seen Flick?"
Narrator: "Flick? Flick who?"
This little bit gets me every time because of how Peter Billingsley plays it. It's amazing how people either love this movie or dislike it. There doesn't seem to be a middle "meh, it's all right, I guess." Me, I absolutely LOVE it. Because of this movie, I have a Chinese meal at a nice restaurant every December.
I love that tradition!
People who don't like this movie are subhuman.
I realize this was a re-upload, but I'm so glad to see you finally watched this. To me, this is an absolutely perfect movie. I can't think of one thing I'd change. The casting, the music, the costumes, the dialog...all perfect. I have honestly watched this at least fifty times. I'm happy that you enjoyed it so much. I think I would have been devastated if you didn't love it. I remember one reactor I respect a lot thought it was "just okay" and I had to hide under my sink like Randy.
"Three blocks away, Schwartz was getting his."
Ralphie bears false witness against his friend, just to get the bar of soap out of his mouth for a minute.
What a great kid!
In his defense, it’s Lifebouy we’re talking about…🤢🤮
"Now I had heard that word from the Old Man at least 10 times a day. My father worked in profanity the way other artists worked in oil or clay. It was his true medium. A master." Jean Shepherd's narration in this is great. Enjoyed watching this with you, Madison!
@@lynnturman8157 Yay, glad you enjoyed it!😊
@@MadisonKThames You're the best!
The way Ralphie’s little brother feels in his winter outfit is how it actually felt in the north country of New York in my childhood in the 50s- not an exaggeration!
I had one as a kid in Oregon & hated it.
There are so many quotable moments from this movie. I absolutely love ❤️ it.
26:06 I’ve been watching Madison’s reaction videos for over a year and until this reaction I didn’t have a single negative thing to say. But I have to take off a point for her hating on the lamp. Not only was the lamp a thing of beauty, more importantly, it was a major award!!
The finest Italian craftmanship ever.
jean sheppard who wrote the story and was narrating it was also the guy in the santa line saying the line ends here and begins there
18:58 Oh, in Alabama. I lived in the very southeast of Alabama for 25 years. 2 snowflakes fall and all the schools close! I moved to Minnesota after that, and we got lots of snow.
The entire Phoenix area does that too with just a dusting of snow.
Rented it back in the late 90s for the same reasons, to see it straight through. I remember at the time thinking it was set in the early 50s, but apparently it's set in 1940. Which I can plainly see now.
LATE 40's.
@@ffjsb A car licese plate read 1940
@@CurtRenz They get whatever period car they can that's close from private owners. They're not going to bother with a small detail like that. Not to mention that there's NO mention of war looming. There was also a Farmall M tractor in the movie, which would've been rare since they had just began production of them full scale that year.
The police car was also a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster...
Ralphie's dad, a true dad's role model.🤭
And this film, with its superb narration, was why the original Wonder Years had narration...
One of my favorites that I watch every year
I bought my son a bb gun when he turned nine. My leg lamp is on in front of the window, right now. Enjoy the season.
Glad to see this one back up! 😀 Loved rewatching it with you, Madison! And I'm excited to hear your book news too. Can't wait!! Merry Christmas. 🎁🎀🎉⛄❄🎄🎊🔔🎅
The narrator was the author of the short story, Jean Sheppard. It was printed in Playboy magazine in the late sixties.
He's also the guy that points Ralphie to the end of the line to see Santa.
@@ffjsb Didn't know. Thanks for the info!
My fav quotable line from this movie is "Not a fingah!" by Ralphie's dad after his prized 1st Place prized Leg Lamp was shattered.
Please give the STAR TREK franchise a chance. 🖖
A Star Trek Christmas? Gay Sulu surely would have worn ornaments.
The absolute lack of empathy from all female reactors twords the lamp... means it's perfect.
My mother's favorite Christmas film, mostly because she was 10 when this film takes place (1939; you can tell because of the Wizard of Oz characters in the parade and other references). She also had the Little Orphan Annie decoder ring and would listen every week. The one message she could remember actually had to do with the plot of the program, so it wasn't always a commercial.
I remember when my dad did this for me and my little brother one year got us paintball guns! Mom was furious though :)
Flick's tongue was not harmed in the making of this movie. The pole was not cold--they had a small hole in it and used suction to keep his tongue on the pole.
"Santa Claus: The Movie" (1985) with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow, along with "A Christmas Story", is one of the Christmas movies we grew up on. It's a fantastic movie that tells a wonderful story about an elf who thinks he knows better.
Also great for the Christmas season:
- "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983), another take on ol' Ebenezer Scrooge portrayed by Donald Duck, with Mickey as "Bob Cratchit".
- "Die Hard" (1988), a story of how a family comes together during a difficult situation to realize the importance of family during the holidays.
- "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989), about a father whose only wish is to bring his family together by way of a swimming pool...And 25,000 strung lights.
Love your channel and your reactions. Keep em' coming.
Hi, an obscure move that I try to catch every Christmas is “ It Happened on 5th Avenue.”
It’s from 1947 with a mostly unknown cast; but still; I look for it every year.
Yes, "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983) is my favorite movie version - it's very true to the original story too, surprisingly so for Disney.
Here’s something you’ll get a kick out of:
When they went to the Chinese restaurant, the actress who played mom didn’t know they were going to bring a whole duck out, neck and head on and all.
Nor that the waiter was going to chop it off.
It was a trick the entire cast and production crew played on her. If you watch that scene again, you can see how she’s freaking out and goes totally out of character. That’s not acting. It was her honest reaction to seeing it for the first time.
RANDY LAY THERE LIKE A SLUG.
IT WAS HIS ONLY DEFENSE.
LOL! 😆
the school teacher looks like my 2nd grade teacher at Tice elementry school LOL
This movie is on every Christmas at my family's. You can buy a leg lamp. My nephew has one. Its set before my childhood but I can still relate. So many every day scenes about being young, not just about Christmas.
Madison, if you have a really good Chinese restaurant near you, ask them if they ever prepare Peking Duck. It's usually a holiday, special order preparation. I've had it several times and it is fabulous. Warning though, it is done like in the movie, head and all! Try it and I promise, you won't regret it!
They just made a sequel in 2022, you check out why this is fresh in your memory.
A couple of other movies you might like are Brighton Beach(1986) and Biloxi Blues (1988).. by Neil Simon
I never seen this movie until it got out on video so probably sometime late 80s. But the commercial for this movie and I was about maybe 6or 7 at the most was that scene with Santa ho ho ho ho, and then, pushing a kid down the slide with his big foot, and I remember being afraid of that being what Santa Claus would be like at the malls
The reaction to the duck was real, they didn't know it would have the head on it.
You've gotta do Scrooged, with Bill Murray. It's another classic
you're a very talented painter.
This movie was made from a book "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepheard, Jean was the narrator and had a cameo in the movie, he was the Man who told Ralphie this is the front of the line, the end is back there.
Also, Jean Shepard had a overnight radio show on WOR AM radio in New York from the 1950s to the 1970s where he would tell a lot of these stories, sometimes improvising them off the top of his head. He'd also play music and do whatever he wanted to do.
If Ralphie thought this Xmas was a rough one, this whole movie happened on December 1940. One year and 7 days later, December 7, 1941 would happen. If you know your U.S. history you this day is the day Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was bombed by Japan.
I saw a story recently that the actor who played Ralphie went to the house and was signing autographs for fans and the guy that owns that house came out and freaked out on him.
The actor went on to become a successful movie producer and was one of the producers of Iron man, he also played one of the elves in the movie Elf.
This is still the best movie about the dark side of childhood.
Best nostalgic Christmas movie and one of the best, most beloved of all time (even if you do "shoot your eye out!").
I lost my mom yesterday and she loved this movie
I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers to you.
@@chrismetafora6565 thank you. Bad things to happen around Christmas. She died scared and alone face down in the bathroom floor.
I'm so sorry for your loss! My mom is very near the end, and the holidays really just bring it to the surface. I never got it until I was on the edge of going through it myself. I hope this movie is one of the little things that bring a touch of comfort to you.
@@Me-wk3ix tell her you love her every second. I got aggravated and hung up on my mom Thursday and she died shortly after. I will NEVER forgive myself.
@@Me-wk3ix I ASSUMED I’d see her Friday and brought her some lunch and chocolates. I found her on the bathroom floor. She died scared and alone and I should’ve been there.
The mother's reaction of shock and surprise in the final scenes when the duck was brought out, was actually her real reaction. She wasn't told by the director what exact dish would be put in front of her...lol
I just posted the same thing!
Betcha haven't seen these three: *It Happened on 5th Avenue 1947, Bell Book and Candle, All Mine to Give 1957.*
Bonus: SHOP AROUND THE CORNER 1940.
Ralphie all grown up is in the first Iron Man movie and a Spiderman movie
I didn't know that, very cool!
The narrator is also the writer of the short stories on which the movie was based and has a cameo as the bearded man who tells Ralphie where the end of the line is. His name is Jean Shepherd, and he was a well-known 20th century writer and humorist who spent 30 years famously telling stories on New York radio.

"In God We Trust -- All Others Pay Cash"
Great reaction, Madison. Glad you finally got to see this classic from beginning to end. Roasted duck is delicious, you should give it a try.
The triple Dog dare! No coming back!
People that think snow is pretty have never had to remove it.
Spend 2 hours outside shoveling and you'll no longer be enamored with such wistful thoughts.
Ha ha you whiner. Hire so.eone to remove it then you baby gaga googoo
I like wistful thoughts if shoveling the snow. I am as pure a s the Driven Slush
Another great reaction! I hope THE BISHOP’S WIFE and the musical SCROOGE with Albert Finney are on your list!
That eyebrow raise lol
Wow! Two of my favorite Christmas movies two days in a row (this and It's A Wonderful Life). Hmm...if you react to "Elf" tomorrow, it will be The Trifecta!
Glad this went back up. I didn't get a chance to catch it the first time when the RUclips Gods struck it down. Already downloaded it to make sure this time.
A great movie. Thanks for your review.
A guy at my job has a miniature leg lamp on his desk. I walked by once and said "hey, that's a major award" and he just nodded and gave a "mm-hmmm" and it now it's kind of awkward and creepy.
Plus, it came from Italy!
It just got weird, didn't it?
Great reaction. Thanks.
Next try "The Bishop's Wife" (1947) A B&W beautiful story ending on Christmas Eve.
The lamp was not ugly. You're just jealous. Not a finger!!
It’s back! I knew Scott Farkas couldn’t win.
Now watch the Charlie brown Christmas special
Is this a reupload I thought you already reacted to this
Cable channels TNT and TBS on Christmas Eve stagger this movie one hour apart and run continuously show it on a loop so it's almost impossible now not to watch this movie if you want to
That was fun! Thank you!
I hope your book is about Ralphie!
had Duck in a chinese shop in Liverpool england it's good;)
You used up all the glue. . . On purpose!
You can buy your own full-sized leg lamp from Amazon. You can also buy leg lamp tree ornaments.
No one told Melinda Dillon the duck would still have the head on it. Her reaction was genuine and unscripted.
If the Santa in this movie was too much for you, don't watch Bad Santa. The Santa in that movie is hilariously horrible. Not just a Bad Santa, but a bad human.
the bow looked like you were wearing it by the way lol
He used her answer of Victor to win.
This movie is like the opposite of Its A Wonderful Life for me. Every time I try to watch it I end up turning it off. I’ve watched It’s A Wonderful Life dozens of times. I could watch it every day. I did buy a girlfriend a leg lamp for Christmas once, though. 😂
Congrats on 17k. You’re one of my favorite reactors. I can’t believe you don’t have more.
You gotta be a millennial... SMH.
@@ffjsb Ugotta be a lemming. I’m 50. And I have my own tastes.
I'm jealous we don't get F5 tornados here. so I guess we're even. :)
Review 1988s classic "Scrooged" if you haven't seen it. You'll love it trust me.
👍 (re-thumbs-up)
Duck is an interesting taste. Too greasy for my liking.
Well since you watch THIS last year guess this year it has to be the sequel
He had yellow eyes! So help me God! Yellow eyes!
LOL! 😆
Duck is a yummy dish!
i wish you were my christmas gift
The narration style of this movie reminds me of the tv show The Wonder Years. Both effective. Thanks for this reaction, Madison.
Was it just too much movie footage originally? That Santa scene was long in the original upload
Just accidentally break it. Sounds like a plan.
Be the first to review It Happened One Christmas with Marlo Thomas

🙏
Put a scope and a handle brace on that BB gun and the liberals would claim its an assault rifle.
Madison..... I enjoy your reactions .... no offense but whoever edited this cut out half the good parts
The most overrated christmas movie ever. love your reactions though.
Most excellent. I am your biggest fan.
Deck the halls with bows of horry. Fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra!
I was born in 44. This was my childhood. I got a BB gun at 12 and managed to shoot a bb into my thumb. Pop popped it out with a paring knife and told me to keep my mouth shut.
