Everything you said is the black experience of a JW in Africa. White comfort is more important than your African identity. Woke up at 35 and realized I know very little about being black
30:25 - I was that guy! I feel highly aggrieved that my cultural identity and expression were suppressed. I've only recently, at 42 years old started embracing my cultural heritage 😢
I feel you on that one. You don't get the full experience as a witness. Well...in general you dont get the full life experience anyway, but definitely culturally you miss out on a lot.
This is a great video. I love how you're concise and get to the point quickly. You made a lot of good points. I've read that article about Rastafarians and it's funny that JW try to distance themselves since Rastafarians also worship Jehovah. Bob Marley was technically 'singing praises to Jehovah'. Just subscribed, thanks for this spiritual buffet.
Distance needed as Rastafarians do not serve Jehovah God as it is written in the word of God. They are not the only that knows Jehovah as Jehovah0 whitnesses ,many org knows that Jehovah is the name of true God.,but worship is another thing.
@@Goonapachamoothoo except Jehovah is not the name of God.. it was an invention by a Catholic monk. Even watchtower admits it in the aid to bible understanding book.
I am a European white woman and I originally joined the JWs, because I disliked the nationalist, militarist and racist sentiment in "my" country. Was I ever surprised when I found about racism in the JWs! I am glad that I am out.
Us white folks lost our pigmentation in order to survive in regions lacking in sunlight. The default colour is black. Africa is the mother continent to all humans! Thanks for this video.
That's for sure! In fact, there is more DNA diversity in Africa alone than in the rest of the world put together. I am white, of Northwest European ancestry, but I have more DNA in common with, say, a person from Vietnam than some Africans have with other Africans. If that makes sense.
Hello. Yes, recently I visited family in NY that have been JW members for over 35 years. I enjoy visiting my family. However, the JW missionary sessions are never ending. Very exhausting and boring at times, same talk, same stories. They will use any topic, world events or day to day social interaction to discuss or inference to end of time prophecy for the coming Kingdom of God on earth, and end to man’s government and chaos. There was a discussion on the limited numbers of living and sleeping JW righteous, the non-righteous people, that will be awakened, live and be judged for one thousand years before entering heaven on earth or something like that? I was impressed how social media savvy, at JW meetings using personal phones and Zoom. I was curious about some of the topics discussed in NY and did a Google search and to my surprise. Furthermore, I found nothing related to JW teachings and history of racism. Your RUclips channel is among the few recent videos on the subject. I find your views spot on to my experience and my JW family beliefs. After returning home, I had a conversation with a friend about the experience with my relative in NY, on the topic of European supremacy and male dominance in the JW organization. My relive in NY replied, I and we in JW don’t see color, we see brothers, sisters around the world, there is no prejudice in JW. Men are the head and leader, and women follow. The woman is not allowed to teach and govern in JW. I did reply. My relatives are highly educated professional people. Mind-boggling stuff. One JW member of the family refused to enter the Church funeral service for her mother. That refusal did not go well for her at the time. Presently, she is a bit more liberal when socializing with non-JW family, and will enter a church for funerals. Each visit, I learn more or get some clarification about the JW religion. When talking to my JW relatives, I will not ask any questions about JW to avoid endless hours of discussion and readings from JW magazines or books. It has been obvious to me for many years that the Judea-Christian-Islamic religions are patriarchy, sexist, convoluted, and racism towards African people and people of African descent in my opinion.
That is soooo true..we grew up in the Hood of North Philadelphia PA...and my mom and many of the Sister's were wearing long straight Caucasian style wigs!!! Smh
there were loads of pressure indeed. in europe, some families from togo, ghana, nigeria wore african outfits cos in their jw congregation back home they did, they used to tell me
Wow I just finished watching your video and realized I didn’t have to write what I wrote in the comments earlier. You already said most of my thoughts in your video. My bad 🤣 ✌🏾
Kevan, just some thoughts on y our brilliant posting: As a former JW for over 50 years, an elder for 30, I can identify will every point you made about anti-Black conditioning. I remember being horrified to read an old Watchtower article suggesting literature not be wasted on Negroes, since they would have little use for it, considering their lack of reading skill. Funny, but, as a JW, my erroneous contention that no racism existed in the religion was my favorite selling point for JWism. But, looking back, in addition to the points you made, I've witnessed several additional forms of racism within the religion. In 1970, my family transferred to what was essentially an all Black congregation in Little Rock, not because segregation was enforced, but simply because of the "territory" boundaries utilized represented where most Blacks lived. But, the congregation swelled in numbers because Blacks from other areas of the city were permitted to simply attend at the primarily Black group with the "wink wink" approval of the mostly white groups. I don't recall any Black brothers and sisters being counseled for attending outside their congregation territory. That sort of movement was simply tolerated and "understood." Did my family experience some anti-white sentiment while "serving" there? Maybe a little from a small minority, but there were other subtle forms of racism. Over the years, a couple extraordinarily beautiful, "light-skinned" Black women experienced resentment, envy and ostracism within the Black congregation. Both were confident young women, but certainly not arrogant or conceited. I was mystified at the level of intolerance by some, certainly not all, of the darker complected sisters. Another phenomenon among the Black JWs was the capacity to act and talk white as necessary. Within the home congregation, talks and meeting parts were more spirited, colorful and humorous, but those same brothers would tone that down somewhat when giving a talk in a predominately white group. Conversely, 70 year old white speakers, giving a talk in our hall, would sometimes try to "get down," so to speak, speaking in a style not their own, but in imitation of what they thought would be well-received by a Black group. That pandering did not go unnoticed by our elders and was not appreciated. My family also had the experience of "serving" along the Texas-Mexico border in a city with 21 congregations, 20 Spanish and 1 English. Despite the fact that many of the elders in the Spanish were professional men with college degrees and high skill levels, my scatter-brained brother-in-law, the Presiding Overseer of the "English Unit," was named City Overseer. LOL! Speaking of college or university education, there is a discrepancy among JWs with countries outside the U.S. more tolerant of college education among their young people. It was true also of the Spanish language congregations I was acquainted with in the U.S. Going to college lacked the same stigma as in the English speaking groups. My filipina wife, never a JW, but with relatives who are, tells me that almost all of her JW relatives have college degrees, even those who migrated to the United States. I'm not implying racism here, just a different level of enforcement and understanding of Watchtower tradition. Now, some thoughts on the plump, mostly white GB: All of them are at least two generations removed from the professed "anointed" I grew up with. The current GB are my age and I never considered I might be of that class. Even my maternal grandfather, born in 1885, was in the second or third generation of partakers, not even alive when the first Russellites filled up the remaining slots of the 144,000 left over from the first century. So, I can't help but view the goofy group now on JW.com as imposters, pretenders, but, then, that's actually what all of those Lord's Evening Meal celebrators have been through the years, feigning "spirit anointing" they've never actually received.
Thank you for the comment! You also brought up some interesting points as well. I can only imagine how a congregation can feel segregated like that. Luckily we were in NYS so there was always a little diversity in every congregation.
I stopped reading when you said “extraordinarily” when you described the beauty of some light skinned women. Can’t do it. As if being black and beautiful is extraordinary. Microaggression….. No such thing as talking “white”. Is talking while like Donald Trump, Joe Biden, or your local hillbilly? It’s called “code switching” and black people have done that to assimilate. You really need more education. Your comment is so cringe.
This is so true. That's another reason I left because once they said write letters to Russia but never did anything when cops are killing black people and they never suggested writing letters to U.S. president. They also was segregated like any other church back in 50, 60's
Omgg, I remember them having us writing letters (more like a copy-pasted essay edited by one of the elders ) to a Russian official when some of the brothers were imprisoned.
Nowhere in the world have Jehovah's Witnesses lost their legal status as a religion or charity due to governments proclaiming JWs as having an anti-black culture. Prove the above statement to be false.
My old congregation was more culturally diverse and one of my “friends” mother is white and her father who wasn’t in the organisation. She was soo extremely concerned with looks. She straightened her hair and wore a weave that was straight and long. She also wore makeup and nice conservative clothing and you would never see her in her natural state. I never really questioned it but now you have mentioned in this video I now understand why she did it. I have come to understand how white washed the religion is and racist.
Oh yeah I know a lot of people in my congregation that did the exact same thing. Always trying to be the furthest thing from culturally black when it came to appearances, and they were always viewed as more spiritual
I agree too, when I was in the religion, ALL black sisters " whitened" themselves as much as possible, this was in the 60s and more, sisters had to flatten their hair, payed lots of money for all those chemicals , the brothers usually had to shave head or very short hair, clothes had to be " white" no bright colors or African style dresses, the whole thing had a very " Stepford " people flavor, 🤢 My non jw husband very brown Brasilian was told to " dress and groom appropriately when coming to the kh, so he decided to tell them to f off 😅.
This was so informative and eye-opening! Thank you for your in-depth research and sharing what you've learned, especially sharing what you've witnessed from your personal experiences. You dropped facts upon facts. I continuously curve people trying to recruit me to their clubs/Bible studies/etc. for this very reason. It's predatory how they try to get you to join them. Trying too hard to convince me that it is welcoming/accepting of someone like me. Sometimes it can be so infuriating, but at the same time it's laughable.
Thanks for the feedback 🙏 Yeah any religion that recruits never shares their craziest stuff. This is why they have to recruit. Because if it was that good people would just join from word of mouth or out of their own desire. But it’s not so they go out trying to make members join so they can control how they feed them information. You’re right. It’s truly predatory. Especially with witnesses. And it’s so sad that they gaslight themselves into thinking the whole world can’t understand their beliefs because the devil is blocking gods light. Instead of realizing their beliefs are just crazy and that the average person would call them out if they were actually upfront and honest.
@@whereskevan all that! exactly! I feel very bad for Black people who arestuck in these organizations after being devoted too long. I hope they find the courage to break out. I personally am studying religions on my own... it's intimidating because theres a lot to deconstruct. But I feel comfort knowing I can openly question what I read and my thoughts are my own and I'm not being brainwashed. I look forward to more vlogs from you!
@@alisharo58 honestly I wanna learn about the spirituality of different African countries. Because if the concept of ancestors exists, then their shaking their head on a lot of us. But it is exciting deconstructing them!
@@whereskevan I strongly believe that as well. Our ancestors want better for us, I believe they would never support us blindly following any ideology. I hate that many Black americans/Christians are not thinking critically about the rules/teachings of their religions, many of which were literally created to keep them (and all non-WASPs) in bondage. It’s frustrating. But yes! There’s many books out there not centered on westernized religion and I have the best time reading them. I like challenging accepted beliefs. I feel grounded and closer to my ancestors and my God when I do deep reading/thinking. I hope to one day find my community here on earth that does the same. But until then, it’s a solo endeavor 🤷🏾♀
When I as a Puerto Rican joined a JW predominantly Mexican American congregation in Chicago, they discriminated against me for being Puerto Rican. Same happened at the Dominican JW Kingdom Hall in New York. At the African American Kingdom Hall, in Harlem, I was identified as white enough and discriminated. Ironically, it was only at the Anglo American Kingdom Hall that I was received without prejudice.
I'm so sorry we couldn't have met I'm white however I love all races and people's. I always say to my husband you can always tell a Puerto Rican they have no fear to try to speak our English. Love all you peoples
@@summerbreeze-d2l Well, if indeed that would had been true, then it would have been far better than the blatant cruel isolation and unofficial shunning that I suffered for the five years I attended those who two Latino JWS hell holes at the hands of those Latino JWS hypocrites.. In contrast, at the Anglo American Kingdom Hall in Chicago found three Anglo America JW sisters willing to marry me and another JWs sister willing to do so at the Richmond Virginia congregation. In contrast, the Mexicans and the Dominican JWS so-called sisters avoided me like I had the Bubonic plague simply because I am Puerto Rican. Same outside, the religion. My experiences with Anglo Americans have been generally positive in that area. For example, I was welcomed into an Anglo American family when her daughter introduced me to them. Her brother became my friend. Earlier, as a teenager, an Irish girl introduced me to her mother who had no objections. Two German American girls families treated me decently. In Miami I was introduced her family and they treated me very decently. An Italian family also received me hospitably in Newark NJ. In fact my cousin married into their family with absolutely no problems. In stark contrast, and rather surprisingly, African American JWs displayed blatant reluctance to admit me into their family when they suspected that their daughters were interested in me. One African American so-called JWS sister angrily approached me and began enumerating everything that she found extremely distasteful about Latinos during a meeting at the KH just to make absolutely sure that I kept my Puerto Rican distance. What the hell she was doing at church is beyond me . Another African American husband of a Jehovah's Witness suspected that his daughter was going to marry me, did everything in his power to disrespect me whenever I visited in order to prevent it. An African American coworker told me that his parents didn't want people like me in their family just because he showed me a photo of his sister and I dared to say that she was attractive. So I guess we disagree about Anglo American sincerity in my case.
@@Radrook353 I replied but I see it was deleted. I initially said "It will never make any logic to me for anyone of color would want to be a member in that cult." because if you research jw foundation teachings it is extremely racist. I had posted the website where you can view it yourself, but like I said it was deleted. Please research yourself. I was NOT referring to white people, I'm referring to jw Foundational Extremely Racist teaching, why would a person of color want to join that cult.
@Radrook353, That's beautiful that they accepted you now the question remains is how far did their acceptance go because it's easy to accept people who look very similiar to you than it those who look vastly racially different from you. I'm just saying.
I think they had one black vocalist. Or at least someone with a soulful voice. I remember this from like 4 years ago with an original song. But in generally their music doesn't try to lean to close to anything black sounding.
When you really examine the J.W. organization. With its general cultural thinking. Mode of operation. And the way it often depicts things in its publications and media. It becomes very apparent the whole structure is best suited for middle class men of European descent. But for black men who are really on the front line. And are living in a western country. It fits least of all.
You nailed it. I noticed that right off the back from the first pamphlet they gave me. When I brought up the imagery, I was lied to. They told me the images are more white in the US cause of the culture here and in Africa there where more darker people represented. I asked various other JWs and I didn't get that same answer. Most told me this images are old and they just never bothered to change them. But in 1984-1985 they revamped their new world translation Bible, to better suit their doctrine. It is obvious to me they have systemic Anti Black culture. Lastly my visit to a kingdom hall, the people are nice, but Lord have mercy on my ears. The songs and that music are not pleasant.
This has always been something some of us talked about in the car groups for years... Also in the Branches around the world, like Africa and South America etc it's usually only one maybe two men of color on their branch committees
Not only racist but I was treated differently as a child due to I was in a single parent home. Other kids with fathers in the home was encouraged not to associate with me
The role that colonization plays on us is heavy. My wife is suffering from menticide. While I’m trying to decolonize my mind she’s attending a 3-day conference for further indoctrination. Peace to you Afrikan great video that I will share.
This really blows my mind. There are two or more Christian white guys from this city that choose to wear their hair in dreads. One of the guys used to go to my church with his African born black wife and baby. He was totally accepted as was his wife and baby. No questions asked. None what so ever. He is a great guy and a strong Christian. They are both good people liked by everyone. They are in Mongolia right now doing missionary work. The other guy (of the two) is active in his church also, musically. We (my church) aren't worried about ruining our reputation with how someone looks or how they wear their hair. As long as they have good character and love Jesus, we accept.
I'm kind of against missionary work just because its like religious colonization. I'm not fond of the idea of introducing foreign religions to places that already have their own belief systems. It seems a bit disrespectful to me towards the local culture because it implies that you have something better to offer them or know better than their ancestors. That being said I think looking at someone's appearance and judging them is very superficial and cults need to stop doing that.
@@whereskevan I don't know what to say about that. Jesus told his disciples to make believers of all nations. At that time all the nations were pagan just like some still are now, like Mongolia. Do pagans have a chance? So you think the JWs job is to convert only those in "Christendom" and no one else?
@@wfqsfg No I think what the JWs do is completely inappropriate and lacks respect for other cultures. But still the implication is a bit narcissistic I think. Because it implies that what Jesus was teaching is true and better than what other people already have. Because there's nothing wrong with being pagan objectively. It's only a persons religious beliefs that make pagan into a "bad" thing. Because to the people observing their traditions, its just apart of their way of life. And now Christians are bringing foreign beliefs to people who didn't ask for it. I think the mindset of this assumes that christianity is the way that everyone should live their life just because "jesus said to go preach". But as you've seen Christianity has done a good job at dismantling cultures by imposing its foreign beliefs onto people. Across the Americas & Africa there were religions that people held & practiced. And nothing is wrong with those beliefs. The people were fine with them for centuries. And all of a sudden here comes the "saviors" with some "good news" that no one asked them to bring. It's like Americans going aroudn the world and bringing country/rock music to every culture because they feel its the best genre, meanwhile everyone else has a style of music that their community enjoys. I don't believe in proselytizing religions. The Jews are a good example of not doing this. They just mind their own business and those who want to join can join when they want to. They don't interfere with existing belief systems
@@whereskevan Ok, I'll say this then no more. Why were you doing door to door ministry if you don't believe? To stay in good standings? You don't have to answer the question. I won't respond anymore.

Totally agree. When I was in i remember the white sister who oecked on the piano singing soprano and the bkack pol sounded so weird. Today i sing in my church choir and the singing and harmonies soynd so beautiful
Hello, first time seeing you , Iam white, I agree with you , it always bothered me that that watchtower with Jesus and all the angels are white , I have only been to the memorial since covid , I haven't returned , I happened to come across the Royal Commission CSA ,, JW. It was like getting hit in the face with a brick , I never knew this was going on in the org , I felt scarred , fearful , deceived , and thought Satan would get me , and was I an apostate for reading that , I prayed about it , but I knew I wasn't , iam being shunned now , but Jehovah loves you and me , and all those who put faith in his son , I believe there is an unveiling happening across the globe , everything evil , in every aspect of evil is being exposed , so , dear brother don't give up your faith in our king Christ Jesus , our savoir , he loves you , you are handsome , you are worthy , and you are made in God's image , no one can take that away from any of us , I don't answer to the GB , Jehovah said , do not put your trust in men , so don't give up on him , just the org , God's Day will come , vengeance is his , I feel all of us has been spiritually high jacked for a profit , so be it , something good did come out of it , we all were able to know God's love , and to have a personal relationship with him , our faith in him and his son is what's most important , don't give up your faith , be proud of who you are , we are all one human race , that comes in different shades , that simple , love and hugs for all ,🙏🌈💖
I recommend you continue your biblical studies. A great place to start is with Yale University. They have their classes uploaded on youtube about biblical history. The first lecture is very eye opening.
I agree with you that the org is plagued by racial bias which reflects in organizational policies and publications, dressing and grooming…basically the JW ‘ culture’
JWs "Golden Age" magazine, July 24, 1929 page 702: "There is no servant in the world as good as a good Colored servant, and the joy that he gets from rendering faithful service is one of the purest joys there is in the world." I will say that as a child of the Civil Rights movement, I did like the JW's 1970's teaching that we are all one race, the Human Race. As 2 white kids, my wife and I were mentored by a wonderful mature black couple, Betty and Clinton. Our daughter and theirs were born the same year and they became best friends. Those were good times for us. But eventually, they moved and we faded.
18:00 to the JW’s credit, this article goes on to say: “The weight of scientific opinion, therefore, seems to be that the lower average IQ scores of blacks can be explained largely, if not entirely, by environmental factors.” And also: “The question of the genetic basis of racial or class differences in IQ . . . achieves meaning only in a racist or classist society attempting to justify its discriminatory practices ideologically.”
I'm glad I saw this. God's hair is "wooly" meaning he is black and has an afro. If man is made in God's image, then God is half white and half black, which means he is Black. Adam and Eve were Black and White. Eve was white, Adam was Black. At the first Coming Christ is white, a white Jew. But at the second coming he resembles an Ethiopian eunuch, meaning a black man. So God is paying no attention to white focus in the world. Unfortunately, quite curiously, Satan is white. White supremacy is a form of Satanism. Thanks for sharing this information. Gog of Magog is white supremacy. Satan reinvigorates Gog of Magog after the millennium because Christ is a black man at the second coming. Also, were you aware that JWs used to teach that growing back to perfection meant that everyone would become a white male eventually? Women and non-whites are part of iimperfection per their understanding at one point. Thanks for this interesting post!
I have locs and most of the sisters in my congregation but it's also mainly black BUT yea you hit the nail on the head that's why I stopped going my family also except my oldest son but hair in mostly black Halls are more lenient
@1:27 No. Watchtower does not believe it's publication comes from God. Rutherford believed Angels beamed information from God into his brain, but that is old light. They believe God uses his spirit to direct them. Coming from God is like getting an entire book. Spirit directed is like getting chapters and outlines and having to write the book yourself.
@@whereskevan I believe they will think the Watchtower magazine and other publications and Governing Body is inspired. And they specifically said they are not.
@@whereskevan Yes. They said it in writing and in talks by Governing Body members which ExJWs play all the time and cite. I do not mean this in a disrespectful way. When I was watching this video, I was asking myself, when you were a JW or going to the hall, did you actually study the publications? Did you bother to learn about history and facts beyond the “agenda 🐂💩 some 👴🏻” sell to the public? Some of the things you said sound true based on surface knowledge and first-look but not on to someone with deeper knowledge that studied the things you refer to.
Also, if you were a brother or sister in the sixties and were seen in a civil rights movement or protests you were subjected to being disfellowshipped!

In Revelation 1:11-18 on verses 14 and 15 state that Jesus has hair like wool and that his feet were like polished bronze. Thus Jesus was definitely not white. However, in every JW article pertaining to Jesus, he was always depicted as a white man and I always found that odd.

When I was a child in this Cult, I asked my parents why there was no Brown, Black, etc angels. They had no answer for it. Even when in the bible the angels are described as being Androgenous and had faces of light and shit
True, authentic Christianity is the only religion in all of history that is not racist, prejudice or supremacist. This cannot be Denied or proven false 💕
Thank for the podcast. I left this organization awhile ago. I raised as a child in JW but I realized afto american are treated different and act differently than the the white ppl in JW.
With respect to “dress and grooming” (I hate the phraseology still), I find that it inadvertently infringes on stereotypical black culture because the JW culture is dated. My father is black and was born in 1934. He would not dream of dressing in a way that was stereotypically black. He wore clothing of the 1950s just like the dress and grooming culture of JWs. But this was his defining era in life. We also see this dress and groom culture in other religions that are predominantly black or white (Amish and Nation of Islam). This would also apply to music. My white friends also faced issues with the length of their hair and clothing choices (my generation is the 1990s). This argument is racially post-modern with an emphasis on power differentials. The main issue with JW is that their doctrines change and if they were inspired by God it would be right the first time and all inclusive because a perfect would have a way to incorporate all people. God doesn’t speak to or inspire them. Therefore, it should not be surprising that we find doctrinal contradictions. But it does not make black letter law racism. With politics it would also effect any social movement to "improve" the race of any group
I heard it said that Jehovah witnesses, black Jehovah witnesses believe that when they get to paradise everybody's skin will be white or turn to White. This is what I heard before from a man who discusses politics named Dr Randy short
This is not true. But this may have been true in like the 1930s or something early on. I don’t think any current black members have thought this because I’ve never heard this from anyone living.
Yes they had earlier ties to the KKK back in 1920. Just recently the Watchtower had pictures of Kenny Rogers look alike actors with beards as 144,000 only white men.Sad. Yeah JW use to celebrate Christmas too....change rules all the time. I think let JW blacks in about 1955.
Because he was attracted towards becoming a JW and not a Jew or Muslim... AND he was let down by the JW religion not being what he imagined it to be!!! What is your agenda in specifically asking why he is attacking JW's and not jews or muslims?
@ that’s not y. It’s because those religious groups are much more larger and would not put up with these racist remarks you and I both know that don’t play dumb bro. Put up a remark like that about those religious groups and see if they would put up with that sort of nonsense racism in any way is racism hate in any shape or from is hate especially if it is a group you specifically know that won’t fight back and since person knows that because he was once part of that group so he knows he can bully this organization is not courageous it’s cowardly period. Go up against the other groups say things about them who would fight back and you too let’s see you do it too. Let’s see brave heart. Let’s see. I doubt it lol
Excellent video. Just loved your perspective and bringing to light this very important issue of how Watchtower (like most religions 😉) use religion as an anti-Black tool to keep us oppressed. I would just push back on one thing regarding defining whether or not someone is racist vs prejudiced. Racism = prejudice + group power. It's a system designed to keep one group oppressed to take advantage of them whether consciously or subconsciously. It's has little to do with someone's personality or how they treat you, but their involvement in upholding the system. So that CO that was rude to you was absolutely racist because he was upholding the system of anti-Blackness by whitewashing your vernacular, which as you know has been a powerful tool since slavery to control our language and how we speak. Being married to a Black woman doesn't erase his white supremacist delusion, no more than a man married to a woman would erase his misogyny. Again, overall, love your video. (Sorry for being so long winded 😉)
I loved this comment. Thank you for that! It felt racist but it’s hard for me to claim this without more proof. But all I can say is that he was really really southern man, and I’m from NY so I felt the cultural difference
In truth, they are probably less white and any other race in the 144.000. Getting into the "Governing Body" is more about how well you followed procedure or guidelines of the Organization.
Well part of following the procedure is pretty anti-black when you remove anyone who has listened to rap music within a year and you also make your black members go out of their way to make sure their hair is "appropriate"
@@whereskevan JT of critical thinkers said, and showed an Elder and Pioneer playing with, " Earth, Wind, and Fire when at Bethel you couldn't listen to their LP's . He could play music with them and it was OK. He was a black elder.

I cringe every time whenever I see JWs portraying Jesus, Adam and Eve and the angels as white. From a archeological standpoint alone, Adam and Eve should be black because our oldest ancestors came from Africa (I love it that Good Omens did this one right). Jesus was clearly not a handsome long-haired white guy and I'd rather see the angels either as diverse humanoid entities or as terrifying eldritch abominations like they're described as in the bible. As a german ex-catholic, I didn't really witness much racism in my town. But to be fair, it was the 1990s in a small mostly white area so take it as you will. But I'm not surprised that some christian groups are racist. After all, Christianity pretends to be loving and accepting, but only if you're a cis hetero white man.
I was told that JW's are the true religion because there is no prejudice or racism in that religion when I was growing up in the 70's in this religion. I would find no prejudice or racism, that is until I tried to date a white sister, then all hell broke loose! An elder told me there are fine colored sisters you can have. Its best you marry them! This was a congregation in the north mind you!
Kevan I am sorry you have seen these things makes me sick to think of that article on servants. I was blissfully ignorant of this . In our area the brothers were brothers in heart . I loved the blending . We ate together went toasm out in service. BUT what you say is true. All that attitude accomplishes is to push folks apart. I did wonder attires why Jesus was always white. THAT would have been impossible.
This is just not true. Everyone on the governing body had to meet requirements to be in their position. Also you have to have an upstanding status. People allow pastors who smoke, swear, and do outlandish things that clearly don’t follow Jesus’s teaching to stand up in front of crowds and “preach”. Do some more research or ask witnesses about the culture. Jehovahs people are some of the most diverse population.
Did you even watch the video? Specifically mention the "untrue" statement I've made, please. Clearly you haven't watched it because your comment isn't related to the subject.
@@whereskevanThe Bible does talk about the 144,000 that will rule in heaven with Jesus. Thats straight from the Bible. Why is it so hard to imagine everyone else living on earth? As 2 Peter 3:13 talks about. Why is it not even a bat of an eye to believe in “Hell” and to be taught that if you don’t walk in a righteous path you will be burned and tortured… that’s simply not true. Jehovah who is a loving GOD would not allow people to be tortured especially under the rule of Satan. Satan is going to be done away with. It’s not that hard to understand if you read for yourself. There is no hell, the Bible doesn’t support that idea, so why is the belief that if you follow the wicked way, yes you will be done away with forever, while the other people who changed their ways will be here on earth. Wouldn’t that make more sense ? Seeing that God has that authority to wipe everyone out if he wanted to? That’s not what he wants though. You don’t have to believe, I don’t know if you identify as Christian, if you or anyone does that means to follow Jehovahs word the Bible and Jesus’s teachings, if you’re not getting your information from the Bible then where are you getting it from? Man? Thats the problem. Don’t rely on anybody, not even witnesses, we all fall short. Rely on the understanding of Jehovah and his word. You either want to serve him or you don’t. You have free will to choose, just know your choices have consequences, choose for yourself. If you would like the scripture to anything I stated I will definitely reply back with them.
I would just say before you go bashing Witnesses look into these mega churches, and religions who claim they are Christian, you’ll find a lot of traditions that are actually against God and the teachings Jesus taught. Holidays, the cross, statues, collections etc. Nobody questions those, or even the pope who is living lavish from the collections people give to “get them and their loved ones to heaven”, Easter has nothing to do with Jesus, Christmas is not Jesus’s birthday, look at the practices of these world wide moneymaking holidays. Read the account of the astrologers Kind Herod sent to KILL Jesus and think about the star you put on your tree, and the presents you put under the tree which again has nothing to do with Jesus. Nobody questions these things. That’s just one of them. Just something to think about
@@whereskevan the Catholic Church portrays Jesus as white w blue eyes…. Why is that not questioned? Can I ask how you found this video? I’ve suddenly been getting a lot of comments and just curious about how people found this
My bad 🤣 ✌🏾
haha love it!
Kevan,
just some thoughts on y our brilliant posting:
As a former JW for over 50 years, an elder for 30, I can identify will every point you made about anti-Black conditioning.
That sort of movement was simply tolerated and "understood."
Did my family experience some anti-white sentiment while "serving" there?
Kumusta ka?
Exactly. And it’s an American religion with a base in NY so you’d think they’d touch on issues closer to home.
Omgg, I remember them having us writing letters (more like a copy-pasted essay edited by one of the elders ) to a Russian official when some of the brothers were imprisoned.
I never thought of that. Very good point.
Is Samuel Herd going to be transformed into a Kenny Rogers look-alike after he joins the rest of the 'anointed' in heaven?
Apparently so lol
That's a good one, LOL
😂😂😂😂 Right!
😆😅🤣😁😅🤣
Either that or bust!
I love your video and discussing anti-black culture in Jehovah Witness organizations. If I ever do a YT channel it'll be focus on those issues.
Thank you very much
Nowhere in the world have Jehovah's Witnesses lost their legal status as a religion or charity due to governments proclaiming JWs as having an anti-black culture.

Thats terrible to hear. Sorry about that.
What the hell she was doing at church is beyond me
.

I agree with you that the org is plagued by racial bias which reflects in organizational policies and publications, dressing and grooming…basically the JW ‘
culture’
Preach
New subscriber here. Hope to see more videos like this. Well done.
Thanks
Anyone notice every angel is depicted as white
I think this is the best explanation of racism in WatchTower. There's so much I missed as a whitey.😊
😂 it’s okay. I was experiencing some of it and I didn’t even realize it
18:00 to the JW’s credit, this article goes on to say:
“The weight of scientific opinion, therefore, seems to be that the lower average IQ scores of blacks can be explained largely, if not entirely, by environmental factors.”
And also:
“The question of the genetic basis of racial or class differences in IQ . . . achieves meaning only in a racist or classist society attempting to justify its discriminatory practices ideologically.”
It's gross how the people at the time were eating this spiritual food up
I was in a congregation where a young guy was appointed an MS even though he had a flat top hairstyle like that guy from Kid n' Play.
Got banned from assembly for fighting at assembly during baptism 😂
Wait a minute , Scrappy Doo not fighting 😂
Omg I need to know the backstory😭
I have locs and most of the sisters in my congregation but it's also mainly black BUT yea you hit the nail on the head that's why I stopped going my family also except my oldest son but hair in mostly black Halls are more lenient
They police black hair so much in this organization
Wen I saw the thumbnail I was like damn I've never realized how all the angels & heavenly anointed r always depicted as white. Like damn
That’s the first thing that bothered me as a kid
Oh how I agree……my mother gets a stone face when i tell her what I see and how I see it………..
Sorry if my wording was a little off. But I think people will get the point that the information in the literature is a reflection of gods thoughts.
@@whereskevan I believe they will think the Watchtower magazine and other publications and Governing Body is inspired. And they specifically said they are not.
@@b1crusade384 they said this in writing?
@@whereskevan Yes. They said it in writing and in talks by Governing Body members which ExJWs play all the time and cite.
I do not mean this in a disrespectful way. When I was watching this video, I was asking myself, when you were a JW or going to the hall, did you actually study the publications? Did you bother to learn about history and facts beyond the “agenda 🐂💩 some 👴🏻” sell to the public? Some of the things you said sound true based on surface knowledge and first-look but not on to someone with deeper knowledge that studied the things you refer to.
@@b1crusade384Yes, they say they're not inspired, but rather "spirit directed". It's all weasel words
GOD BLESS YOU MY DEAR FRIEND
I was born and raised in this organization. And everything this young man mentioned is true.
Also, if you were a brother or sister in the sixties and were seen in a civil rights movement or protests you were subjected to being disfellowshipped!

Zij draait zich om, we moeten gaan
Look into her eyes and see the same pain
Kijk in haar ogen en zie dezelfde pijn

All that love, what a sin
Al die verliefdheid, wat een zonde

honestly I wanted to make an ASL video about this but I feel like my ASL is a bit too rust on this aspect. I would love to hear more of your experiences on this!
They’re ableist in general - they hate disabled and neurodivergent people 😢
thx for courage to even post thiis
For sure! Someone needed to cove this issue
In Revelation 1:11-18 on verses 14 and 15 state that Jesus has hair like wool and that his feet were like polished bronze. Thus Jesus was definitely not white. However, in every JW article pertaining to Jesus, he was always depicted as a white man and I always found that odd.
I did
Great title, but your volume is low. 👍🏾
Thanks! Its just recorded and edited on my cellphone. No equipment
30:38 black funerals be doing the most and they can be long as ever. The pros they really acknowledge the person and let people speak on them and how they impacted people's lives
IDK all of that. I think saying "only" is a bit subjective. Had you been born in China or Iraq you might not have the same view
Thank for the podcast. I left this organization awhile ago. I raised as a child in JW but I realized afto american are treated different and act differently than the the white ppl in JW.
Exactly 💯
yuuuurrrrp
i was a jw member and i had a afro and nobody ever said something about it....
Having one person on the governing body is just right
With respect to “dress and grooming” (I hate the phraseology still), I find that it inadvertently infringes on stereotypical black culture because the JW culture is dated.
How about only one Canadian on the governing body, David Plane, maybe almost Canadian prejudice.
Check out Awakening Truth’s.
🤔 you got a point!
When I asked why its no black angels I would be told oh its just the artist perception 😮
15:58 on the lack of depiction of black angels, I think JWs would most likely identify one as satan.
As he is shown darker/purple-ish in Caleb/Sophia
i grew up poor--1966-dob=====1 of 7 children. the middle class jws would look down on us and not talk 2 us before or after the meeting. chloexjw
As a kid in the 60's I could not wear my afro/unpermed hair.

Its finaly Jehovah God that created racism
I mean he did keep a group of people and preserved them special for a long time just based on race. The israelites.
Yes they had earlier ties to the KKK back in 1920. Just recently the Watchtower had pictures of Kenny Rogers look alike actors with beards as 144,000 only white men.Sad. Yeah JW use to celebrate Christmas too....change rules all the time. I think let JW blacks in about 1955.
tell me more about the ties to the kkk
@@whereskevan I've read it too, I can't find it now but the jw org did some favor for them, it was something like that.
Can I ask you why you decided to do this video. What is your agenda concerning jws and not lets say Jews or Muslims. Or any other organization?
I agree about their music
…and how about Asians?…do you see one???
Yes. I was in the Chinese congregation.
And the truth shall set you free😮😢😂😊
Facts
@@waldo9261 I'm not sure what you mean tbh and I'm not sure how Earth, Wind & Fire are related to Rap music. Can you explain it again?
According to JT you're not supposed to listen to Earth wind & fire music when it bethel. Please check out the critical thinkers blog
You're not supposed to listen to Earth wind & fire either like rap.
As you probably do know " negro " means black in Spanish and Portuguese, so if you're offended by it why do you call yourselves " black " most of the time instead of Afro-Americans which is the correct term?
We are just Americans.
Go back to your roots Brother, Bantu international look them up they will leed you to all truth. Example Jerusalem today is a Hollywood stage, it was and is a Roman fortress call fort antonio. True Jerusalem is in south Africa in the kalahari desert lay deselit and waste as scripture says it would. The only place on earth the black jackal lives. Subsahra is the holy land.
I don't understand this comment
Jesus is black revelation 1 14 15
Man I'm not even sure if Jesus is a real person haha
I was wondering is the NBA racist😂😂😂. Samuel Hetd was wondering😂😂😂
There is no racial discrimination in jehovah witness angles who appeared in ancient time were looking white why you forced them to be black
Adam was Black/Christ was Black
IDK about all of that. I think they were fictional.
That's wild. I've never heard anything like this and I was in NY
Kingdom Melodies is some of the worst music ever written.
Everyone he rewrote that himself. I grow up as a JW. JW have never said that
This is just not true.
I’m just trying to understand the animosity people have towards Witnesses when they have never tried to see where the beliefs come from, everything is from the scripture. Only looking at a few of the publications doesn’t define the organization. If you had the JW app you would be able to see the countless videos, and images used where it’s every race.
@@BryannaCummings this video is not about other churches so that would be irrelevant. I’m not comparing religions in dissecting one specific religion.
