Could you do me a favour with the sf2000 and position it around 40cm from the sensor in a 100 cmx 50cm space and see what I'd need to dim to in order to get 300 ppfd? I'm growing cacti and succulents which could take 1000umol but I don't fancy paying that electricity bill ha.

Albo you are my favorite RUclipsr. Always a pleasant surprise to see your videos in my feed! I actually purchased the SF 2000 for my marimatoes after watching Albo's review of the SF1000 and have been thrilled with the results so far after using it briefly in two grow areas. I started with the light dimmed down over six clones that I had recently transplanted into solo cups with the light about 8 inches above. They grew stocky, leafy and green with no signs of stretching or light burn. Next when the power went out on my 2 foot 4 bulb HP T5 with AgroLED tubes, I moved this light into full power position over two plants in week two of flower in my 4x4 tent. It is currently about 12 inches over the plants with supplemental 2 foot, 2 bulb T5s with AgroLED bulbs on the far sides (each plant is trained wide and flat so together they easily cover a 4x3 area.) Now in week 4 of flower I can see a difference in the size and density of the flowers with very little stretching compared with my last grow. Power usage is spectacular. With all lights and 4" fan on low power, I'm only pulling 320 watts and my biggest concern is potential light burn. Heat is a non-issue. My basement consistently stays at 65 degrees and in the tent with all lights blazing it gets up to 74 during the day when the lights are on. I plan to eventually get an SF 4000 to cover the entire grow area and then move the SF 2000 into a veg room. My T5 will probably be used strictly for clones and seedlings in March when I start plants for my outdoor garden.
Last year, I bought my Spider Farmer SF-1000 because of YOUR video! Knowing literally nothing about growing plants under artificial light my orchids are now in bloom like never before and I'm getting new roots, spikes, and leaves across all of them like crazy! I've even got geraniums blooming indoors as an experiment - in winter!!
Hi from Canada! I'm researching for a new light to grow medicinal tomatoes for my husband. I just starting the seedlings. 8 will be moved outside and 4 will be kept inside. A bit of an experiment! Last year I started 6 inside and moved them all out @ 8-10 wks, so the 1 light was enough to start 6 seedlings. My hubby said the tomatoes were delicious. I am going to try adding tomatoes to some recipes so I am growing extra. The tech changes so quickly it is hard to keep up! Who wants to spend $$$ for a POS light? So thanks for your reviews. They are to the point and easy to follow. As a hobby gardener I don't need tons of excruciatingly detailed techno babble. I still have more research but you have given me a starting point I hope all is well down there, keep eating healthy! Thank you again. ......edit...... still looking but am leaning toward TWO of the SF2000 rather than one SF4000. That should cover my 4 indoor plants from start to finish. Now I have to find mylar to drape around the girls!! A lot of Canadians have taken up gardening since last year! Such a rewarding and money saving hobby. Those medicinal tomatoes are pricey. I have a 40"x 40" x 80" tent and am using an SF-2000. Am in the 3rd wk. of flower with 2 Glues and 1 Wh. Widow. Just now getting quarter size buds. They look great but in retrospect I think I should have gotten the 4' x 4'tent. I did not think an SF=2000 would light a 4' x 4'. Anyway I really like my light and the gentleman is fantastic on his videos and seems very well informed.The reason I can say this is I'm 70 and watched a whole lot of crap information.Thanks a bunch!

I have (2) SF 1000’s. This video is spot on. I have a 4x4 tent and currently use the (2) 1000’s with a 600 hps. Planning to swap the hps for an SF 2000 or 4000 next and leave HID behind for good. Great review!
Solid review. I especially like the coverage and PAR changes information as the area and hang height changes. Should help people visualize things better. Only thing better is if they sent me lights to review.
I'm so happy I discovered your channel Al!!! Interestly enough, I purchased the SF-2000 AFTER I started following you recently, but BEFORE I saw this video! Which makes me ecstatic about my purchase after a decent amount of research, including so many of your videos!!! I got this for a 36" x 18" tent. It has been about 10 years and so much has changed since then as the "best of the best" back then was cfl, and the infancy of blurple lights. I had to dim my lights to grow lettuce because the plants were showing center leaf tip burn, and were not growing upwards. I also raised them a bit, now the lettuce is higher and totally green! 'Weeds' love light, lettuce doesn't!
Just so everyone knows the SF2000 now has an analog dimming knob mounted on the board next to the Meanwell driver. I emailed Spider Farmer confused and they told me the product had been upgraded and to enjoy. I have nothing to do with this company but they haven't updated the specifications anywhere these are sold so I'm doing it for them here. Hopefully this info helps(your welcome spider farmer). I wouldn't take the time if i didn't like this product. Really appreciate all the useful info AlboPepper. A good, seemingly unbiased opinion/review is a rare thing nowadays. Side note: Their customer service has been great. Very responsive with basic questions I've had. This is a BIG deal for me.
*Great video. So many people out their are so focused on the power draw and what the electrical bill is going to be they neglect the fact that with a light that has the right intensity for flower that uses more electric will also give them more yeild which will always more than compensate for the increased electricity costs over the 3-3½months of their grow cycle from seed/clone to harvest. * *I wish alot more people saw this video and stopped wasting their money on lights only really good enough to veg as they don't offer the intensity over a decent coverage area for flowering* GL ✌🏾✌🏼🇬🇧
I have both an SF-4000 and an HLG 550 V2 RSpec. They each light up a 5x5 tent, and are both very impressive lights! I want to run a 4 plant crop of autos in each tent to compare the results.

Thank you. I wish you would review the 2000 series against each other from MaxsiSun, Spider Farmer and Mars Hydro, rather like you did with the 1000 series. It's confusing their have the same basic label, they all cost about the same price, but the MaxsiSun PPE says only 2.1 (lower than the others), and the wattage is diff with each of the products, so non-tech folks like me wonder which is better (I have a small room 6x6x8h' room area, not a tent, for my plants). Thank you so much for the clear and concise information you provide in your videos, I've watched many of them.
I'm new to growing and just got a pair of super hot pepper plants, a ghost pepper and a trinidad scorpion pepper, and I was nervous about how I would care for these things in a suburb with vast shady trees. I'm still nervous but I feel reassured that with hard data from this channel I'll have the best possible chance.

I just received a new SF-2000. I made a mounting bracket (angle aluminum) for the driver so I could mount it sideways. I thought that would help with heat dissipation as well as making the adjustment screw easily accessible. I found that the lowest watts it would read was 105 (in the counter-clockwise position), and 317 watts turned all the way up! I think it should be more strongly emphasized to newbies that creeping up on the needed power is better than finding out the hard way that changing from one light source to another (even one with less power) can really piss plants off. Some people are very attached to their peppers ;) EDIT to add that the watt reading was 205 at 120 volts, when tested straight out of the box.
man you had me stressed out with the PPFD reading haha i didnt realize you were calculating for 18" and i JUST bought it last night after seeing some really good reviews xD ill just throw it as close as i need to the plant. it wont harm it from what ive read, as long as the PPFD and VPD is good, an LED wont do any damage unless its touching.
I bought the 2000 model based mostly.on this video. Thanks for your research it's hard to find real info out there. Been using a few blurple LEDs but I think this seems better
Lol once again you taught me some new tricks lol! :) my tamatoes have been getting alil light burn 3x2 feet closet i took apart amd reasembled into a a 4x2 for my SF2000 was giving me some light burn at 20" i raised the light to 24 inches then the claw stopped. But the leaves didn move upwards towards the light so i moved it up to 26 then to 28...not realizing ive got the light hanging in centre off a 3x3 space and not a 4x2 space so i centred it now to 4x2 and lowed the light to 24" after watching your doci lol thanks Doctor Tamato!:) Lol hope you dont mind me calling you that and really to appreciate your wisdom!😁

Got to love those fresh tomatoes! I seem to have the best clones, with white LEDs vegetables. I run 600watt HPS plus LEDs and straight led red spot lights. Works great . I think a lot of tomatoes were selected under HP. Have been running same kinds for several years. PEACE AND LOVE

How low can the sf2000 be dimmed down to? You've done a fantastic job with this video by the way! I am one of the few people interested in an sf2000 to dim down as I'll be running it around 36cm from succulent plants/ seedlings in a 50cm X 100cm X 50cm tent
Thanks for watching! I was able to dim the SF-2000 down to at least 50w. I might have been able to go further, but I didn't push the limits. Not sure if the SF-2000 has a higher efficacy rating than the SF-1000. But I was really quite impressed with the SF-2000, above and beyond the SF-1000. And certainly for the lifespan aspect, I just like the idea of using more diodes at a lower wattage per diode.
@ 8:00 ...you discovered the big secret ....led (chips) run more efficiently when under powered (dimmed) ... you can get 30% more light per Watt of electricity , and also the leds will last much longer .... The biggest cost is your electricity bill , light manufacturers don't care about that ... they cut costs , use less leds and drive them at max power ... When growers understand this there will be a new revolution in grow lights
Was wondering if I can use plant grow bulb instead of a regular one in living room. Not necessary to grow but I got plants in here. Will this light be efficient to go about with daily things in my living room during the winter time? I do not need a lot and strong light though and perhaps plant would benefit a bit too.
I keep telling people to look at the par mapping of a newer 600w LED, with samsung or similar diode in comparison to a 1000w HPS. The par map says all.
Does dimming the light affect the longevity of the diodes? You could ponder the lower the wattage drawn and the lower the temperatures would extend the life of the light.
After hours of research your both funny and very informational video finally got me to a poin where i know which FREAKIN LAMP OUT OF THOUSANDS i am going to buy/ need beeing a total noob in this wholw "tomotoes" diy buiss i have made a lot of mistakes in the past and wont do in the future

This light is a whole lot better then tgose cheap blurple lights that are all over. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one here using a grow light for actual vegetables!

I am planning to start an indoor farm setup of size 18 ft x 15 ft for growing iceberg lettuce in 6 layers with 45 cm distance between layers. the net available height for baby plants will be14 inches cm and for grown up plants it is 4 inches. I propose to use fluorescent led of 4 ft (84 in total). Will you please suggest which type is suitable ,watts and brand available in India.

I just bought this light to replace an old fluorescent one that I had. I have some hot pepper seedlings that are going now that have not sprouted their first true leaves. This video suggests a 24" height, but is that also for seedlings? I want to avoid leggy plants of course but also don't want too high a light intensity. Thanks for the great videos.

Question: if I'm growing auto flower and I don't need to reduce the light on cycle time (because I don't need to induce flowering), then can I get away with less PPFD for flowering (because the exposure time would be longer -- simple math)? Thank you
These look roughly like the HLGs. You could cook a steak on the back of the aluminum QB housings. So in spite of the great light output per watt, my concern would be how do these things operate in an enclosed area heat wise and how much cooling effort is required? Great videos btw. I watched your raised sip bed tutorial and subscribed. You are a great teacher.
I had the same concern. I have 2 sf2000 in a 4x4 & love them in regards to heat. The temp in my tent dropped 4-6 degrees compared to when I had 2 ViparSpectra 600s. Definitely couldn't cook a steak on these. I don't, but you could run a fan blowing on the drivers if your ambient room temp is high to begin with.
What make and model is that meter you're using? How can that not be a must for indoor growers to dial in perfection? As stupid as this may sound (since it probably is) wouldn't wrapping the walls with actual mirrors give me maximun light reflection? It would actually reflect around off of it's own self under the canopy until parts of the plant blocked it's path. This the need for a meter to test angles of deflected light and the strength. Or I suppose if I had a meter I could answer the mirror question myself
can you do videos on the common 60W and 75W EcoSmart Homedepot LED lights?.. these lights are way cheaper than the ones found on amazon and I'm curious to see how the PAR values compare.
Would the Active Grow T5 replacements still be a better option? I want to grow microgreens, herbs, lettuce, and baby spinach on a 2ft deep x 4ft long modular shelving rack. Any suggestions?

Thanks for watching! The SF2000 would cover a much broader area from a higher hanging height. So if your plants are large and you have several of them, it would be a better option. Especially since it can be dimmed when required, unlike the SF600.

I have a 40"x 40" x 80" tent and am using an SF-2000. Am in the 3rd wk. of flower with 2 Glues and 1 Wh. Widow. Just now getting quarter size buds. They look great but in retrospect I think I should have gotten the 4' x 4'tent. I did not think an SF=2000 would light a 4' x 4'. Anyway I really like my light and the gentleman is fantastic on his videos and seems very well informed.The reason I can say this is I'm 70 and watched a whole lot of crap information.Thanks a bunch!

I have (2) SF 1000’s. This video is spot on. I have a 4x4 tent and currently use the (2) 1000’s with a 600 hps. Planning to swap the hps for an SF 2000 or 4000 next and leave HID behind for good. Great review!

I'm so happy I discovered your channel Al!!! Interestly enough, I purchased the SF-2000 AFTER I started following you recently, but BEFORE I saw this video! Which makes me ecstatic about my purchase after a decent amount of research, including so many of your videos!!! I got this for a 36" x 18" tent. It has been about 10 years and so much has changed since then as the "best of the best" back then was cfl, and the infancy of blurple lights. I look forward to seeing some plump juicy tomatoes here in a few months!! I appreciate you and your passion. Look forward to more content!
I had to dim my lights to grow lettuce because the plants were showing center leaf tip burn, and were not growing upwards. I also raised them a bit, now the lettuce is higher and totally green! 'Weeds' love light, lettuce doesn't!
Just so everyone knows the SF2000 now has an analog dimming knob mounted on the board next to the Meanwell driver. I emailed Spider Farmer confused and they told me the product had been upgraded and to enjoy. I have nothing to do with this company but they haven't updated the specifications anywhere these are sold so I'm doing it for them here. Hopefully this info helps(your welcome spider farmer). I wouldn't take the time if i didn't like this product. Really appreciate all the useful info AlboPepper. A good, seemingly unbiased opinion/review is a rare thing nowadays.
Side note: Their customer service has been great. Very responsive with basic questions I've had. This is a BIG deal for me.

*Great video. So many people out their are so focused on the power draw and what the electrical bill is going to be they neglect the fact that with a light that has the right intensity for flower that uses more electric will also give them more yeild which will always more than compensate for the increased electricity costs over the 3-3½months of their grow cycle from seed/clone to harvest. *
*I wish alot more people saw this video and stopped wasting their money on lights only really good enough to veg as they don't offer the intensity over a decent coverage area for flowering*

I have both an SF-4000 and an HLG 550 V2 RSpec. They each light up a 5x5 tent, and are both very impressive lights! I want to run a 4 plant crop of autos in each tent to compare the results.

Thank you. I wish you would review the 2000 series against each other from MaxsiSun, Spider Farmer and Mars Hydro, rather like you did with the 1000 series. It's confusing their have the same basic label, they all cost about the same price, but the MaxsiSun PPE says only 2.1 (lower than the others), and the wattage is diff with each of the products, so non-tech folks like me wonder which is better (I have a small room 6x6x8h' room area, not a tent, for my plants). Thank you so much for the clear and concise information you provide in your videos, I've watched many of them.
I'm new to growing and just got a pair of super hot pepper plants, a ghost pepper and a trinidad scorpion pepper, and I was nervous about how I would care for these things in a suburb with vast shady trees. I'm still nervous but I feel reassured that with hard data from this channel I'll have the best possible chance.
Just added a SF-600 to my 240W lm301b 3000k and 660nm quantum board, all 3 evenly spaced in a 4x2x6'11 Gorilla tent 👍

I just received a new SF-2000. I made a mounting bracket (angle aluminum) for the driver so I could mount it sideways. I thought that would help with heat dissipation as well as making the adjustment screw easily accessible. I found that the lowest watts it would read was 105 (in the counter-clockwise position), and 317 watts turned all the way up!
I think it should be more strongly emphasized to newbies that creeping up on the needed power is better than finding out the hard way that changing from one light source to another (even one with less power) can really piss plants off. Some people are very attached to their peppers ;)
EDIT to add that the watt reading was 205 at 120 volts, when tested straight out of the box.

man you had me stressed out with the PPFD reading haha i didnt realize you were calculating for 18" and i JUST bought it last night after seeing some really good reviews xD ill just throw it as close as i need to the plant. it wont harm it from what ive read, as long as the PPFD and VPD is good, an LED wont do any damage unless its touching.

I bought the 2000 model based mostly.on this video. Thanks for your research it's hard to find real info out there. Been using a few blurple LEDs but I think this seems better
Lol once again you taught me some new tricks lol! :) my tamatoes have been getting alil light burn 3x2 feet closet i took apart amd reasembled into a a 4x2 for my SF2000 was giving me some light burn at 20" i raised the light to 24 inches then the claw stopped. But the leaves didn move upwards towards the light so i moved it up to 26 then to 28...not realizing ive got the light hanging in centre off a 3x3 space and not a 4x2 space so i centred it now to 4x2 and lowed the light to 24" after watching your doci lol thanks Doctor Tamato!:) Lol hope you dont mind me calling you that and really to appreciate your wisdom!😁

Got to love those fresh tomatoes! I seem to have the best clones, with white LEDs vegetables. I run 600watt HPS plus LEDs and straight led red spot lights. Works great . I think a lot of tomatoes were selected under HP. Have been running same kinds for several years. PEACE AND LOVE

How low can the sf2000 be dimmed down to? You've done a fantastic job with this video by the way! I am one of the few people interested in an sf2000 to dim down as I'll be running it around 36cm from succulent plants/ seedlings in a 50cm X 100cm X 50cm tent
Do you think the sf2000 is more efficient than the 1000w due to the lower wattage draw from each individual diode?
Thanks for watching! I was able to dim the SF-2000 down to at least 50w. I might have been able to go further, but I didn't push the limits. Not sure if the SF-2000 has a higher efficacy rating than the SF-1000. But I was really quite impressed with the SF-2000, above and beyond the SF-1000. And certainly for the lifespan aspect, I just like the idea of using more diodes at a lower wattage per diode.

@ 8:00 ...you discovered the big secret ....led (chips) run more efficiently when under powered (dimmed) ... you can get 30% more light per Watt of electricity , and also the leds will last much longer .... The biggest cost is your electricity bill , light manufacturers don't care about that ... they cut costs , use less leds and drive them at max power ... When growers understand this there will be a new revolution in grow lights

Was wondering if I can use plant grow bulb instead of a regular one in living room. Not necessary to grow but I got plants in here. Will this light be efficient to go about with daily things in my living room during the winter time? I do not need a lot and strong light though and perhaps plant would benefit a bit too.

I keep telling people to look at the par mapping of a newer 600w LED, with samsung or similar diode in comparison to a 1000w HPS. The par map says all.

Does dimming the light affect the longevity of the diodes? You could ponder the lower the wattage drawn and the lower the temperatures would extend the life of the light.
That sounds pretty logical to me. Lower power = lower temps = longer life.
After hours of research your both funny and very informational video finally got me to a poin where i know which FREAKIN LAMP OUT OF THOUSANDS i am going to buy/ need beeing a total noob in this wholw "tomotoes" diy buiss i have made a lot of mistakes in the past and wont do in the future

I'm trying to find the best light, that will cover a four foot area- growing tomatoes, kale, pumpkin, cucumber, watermelon- the normal garden varieties. What light would you suggest? Thank you!
This light is a whole lot better then tgose cheap blurple lights that are all over. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one here using a grow light for actual vegetables!

I am planning to start an indoor farm setup of size 18 ft x 15 ft for growing iceberg lettuce in 6 layers with 45 cm distance between layers. the net available height for baby plants will be14 inches cm and for grown up plants it is 4 inches. I propose to use fluorescent led of 4 ft (84 in total). Will you please suggest which type is suitable ,watts and brand available in India.

I just bought this light to replace an old fluorescent one that I had. I have some hot pepper seedlings that are going now that have not sprouted their first true leaves. This video suggests a 24" height, but is that also for seedlings? I want to avoid leggy plants of course but also don't want too high a light intensity. Thanks for the great videos.

You could start with 24" and see how that works for you.
These look roughly like the HLGs. You could cook a steak on the back of the aluminum QB housings. So in spite of the great light output per watt, my concern would be how do these things operate in an enclosed area heat wise and how much cooling effort is required?

I had the same concern. I have 2 sf2000 in a 4x4 & love them in regards to heat. The temp in my tent dropped 4-6 degrees compared to when I had 2 ViparSpectra 600s. Definitely couldn't cook a steak on these. I don't, but you could run a fan blowing on the drivers if your ambient room temp is high to begin with.
What make and model is that meter you're using? How can that not be a must for indoor growers to dial in perfection?
As stupid as this may sound (since it probably is) wouldn't wrapping the walls with actual mirrors give me maximun light reflection? It would actually reflect around off of it's own self under the canopy until parts of the plant blocked it's path. This the need for a meter to test angles of deflected light and the strength. Or I suppose if I had a meter I could answer the mirror question myself
can you do videos on the common 60W and 75W EcoSmart Homedepot LED lights?.. these lights are way cheaper than the ones found on amazon and I'm curious to see how the PAR values compare.

The SF4000 is a much better solution. It fits more proportionate in that grow space. It is more efficient and generates more light. And it costs less.

Yes, the Active Grow T5 LEDs would be ideal for your application. And they could be placed much closer than something like the SF2000.

Compared to the Gavita Pro 1700e Gen 2, the Spider Farmer SF-4000 has 72% of the light output. It uses 71% of the power. And it costs 43% of the price.

Thanks for watching! The SF2000 would cover a much broader area from a higher hanging height. So if your plants are large and you have several of them, it would be a better option. Especially since it can be dimmed when required, unlike the SF600.
