My entire business has been built by getting little bits of information like this over the years! Thank you for giving me another puzzle piece! (Furniture refurbishment self taught) 😅
You are such a good teacher ❤. I have been spending 3 days watching your Iris video, it's such a lovely pattern, and you describe everything so well. All things you learned me - I am so grateful 🥰. Now my Marimekko Iris bag is almost completed, the only thing missing is the rivets. Yesterday I sewed the band with 2 different textiles. it turned out wonderful. I almost feel like I've been a bag university. So professor Nicole, thank you so much for all you taught me, and I wishing you and your family a wonderful evening. Hugs from Sweden
I was wondering if those having gummy needles are using a #3 zipper? It looks like you use a wider zipper, maybe a #5. A #5 gives you more install room and more room to top stitch the seams.
The #5 is definitely wider, and you are correct that this is what I am demonstrating on! However a lot of the difference in zipper width between #3 & #5 is due to the size of the teeth themselves rather than the tape so there is still room to be able to use a seam allowance of 5/16” and avoid the DST - the stitch line may be slightly closer to the teeth compared to when using a size 5 but not so close that is causes problems with sliding the pull. That has been experience anyway!
Do you have an affiliate link for the type of zippers that are wide enough to clear the 1/8” tape? TY so much for your instructive and inspirational videos!!
Hi Janell! I don’t have an affiliate link but any size 5 nylon zippers will work, I like My Handmade Space and there are a few sellers on Amazon that I like (YaHoGa, Leekayer, Goyunwell are good quality). Size 3 will work too, there will just be less clearance between your folded fabric and the zipper teeth. If you are using a zipper with the pull installed already YKK size 3 and wider will work, I like 4.5 ykk zippers from Wawak.
Thank you. That was interesting. I’m in the UK and buy specific double sided tape designed for fabric use, it’s 1/4inch and I’ve never had a gummed up needle. I must be very lucky!
All DST is not created equally that’s for certain, so glad yours has been working well! It’s a great tool and if people can find the one that works for them it can be a game changer as far as getting great results on your finished projects!

Thank you so much Carina! ❤️
Totally agree. Keeping a few Alcohol Wipes handy for those Oopsy moments (with a domestic) is good too.
Yes for sure!
Exactly! I've switched to only 1/8" tape. Great tutorial.
I'm gonna order it this week. DS tape. So this vid is extremely helpful.
Thank you for sharing this! Thats a great tip to know! ❤

Excellent as usual.
Thanks again!
Great description as always🎉🎉
Thank you! Excellent explanation.

So thankful I found your brilliant YT tutorials. Thx for a quick reply and suggestions. You’re the best and I love your accent.

Totally! It’s what I use.
I keep a little bottle of rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip by my machine in case I need to clean the needle.
Great tip!
