ARRI TRINITY on a BUDGET

- This is the legendary Arri Trinity on a BUDGET and I mean budget. Arri Trinity rigs can cost up to $50k US just for the rig itself. Mine cost less than $500 US and that was with a relatively expensive gimbal and a super cheap steadicam. The Arri Trinity has many uses and it very commonly used in film sets with very expensive camera set ups like the Arri Alexa cinema cameras.
This video shows how I set up my fake trinity and also at the end I have a question on how to stabalize the gimbal and steadicam.

Hey Jason! I'm a Gimbal tech and 2nd AC in Los Angeles. Super cool video. You nailed just about everything. The only thing is that with the Arri Trinity it is that the center post is usually balanced in the center so that the counterweights and camera are in equilibrium so the rig floats level. There should be no drop time. This allows the operator to switch between normal and low mode effortlessly, without having to fight the counterweight when in low mode.
Yes!
that can be done too for additional 100 bucks
Very cool! You have to be the first one to actually show how it’s set up. Good on you!
thank you Cef Gil. Really appreciate it
hes not the first one, a guy did it already a week before him...
Mr.ShAd0w yeah I saw that after I had posted this! 😂
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yeah he's NOT THE FIRST ONE! DONT TAKE CREDIT BRO relaxxx
He's literally the fourth I've seen make this video
Great video, now I know what to get for my Zhuyin weebill s for Christmas.
I'm gonna try this with My Crane 2 and Glidecam 2000. I feel sorry for my wrist already.
the only way arri and budget are in any of my sentences is: no dear, the arri is not in your budget!
hahhahahah too right. same
It is really helpful, thank you very much for sharing .💓
Thank you
Very good 👍👍
Exactly what I needed to know
Nice guide, thanks
thank you Godot for watching
Yep. Seams like a good stuff 😎
thank you for watching
Cool. Thx for the video
thank you for watching
I have a a6400 with weebill s and I'm looking to do this as well. I've watched all the other videos about this setup but they don't show how to actually setup both of them up. Will be purchasing a steadycam today thanks for the video
awesome stuff. I hope this helps
Best youtube voice ever brother.
haha legend
Bro! love the glide cam! I feel like a whole generation is gonna grow up not even knowing what this is haha. Also love a fellow Brissy creator!
yew! go brissy! isn't many of us around haha
Ere Jason, that looks blooming brilliant does the job......
I would probably drop the bloomin thing and break the camera,
Balancing both would be interesting......mind you me arms would be killing me...
HAHAHAH love it
After watching the movie 1917 and watching the "how the heck did they pull that off" at the end of the blu-ray. I had the same idea to make a poor mans Arri Trinity. Very cool stuff, great to see it works
than you for watching. What a brilliant film
I use mine setup with a crane, fuji xt3 w/ 23mm 2. And a stabilization vest... best set is with the vest like the arri... smooth like butter. I actually film basketball while running up and down ther court with the players
Man that is awesome. The vest definitely makes it so much easier. Cool stuff.
Nice tutorial Jason. Thanks for the step by step. I'm wondering what would make you decide to use or not use the Budget Trinity because it seems to me that it should be used all the time now?
thank you for watching. Only if i knew I had to do some really long pieces and needed the extra reach like this offers
Hi Jason, did You try to attach the Gimbal to the Steadycam with the Zhiyun Transmount adapter?
Nice Jason - saludos de costa rica
thank you Peter!
Hi, how did you control steadicam roll while it is in horizontal state.
I don't have tried it. Kind strange why use a glide cam and not an extension for your gimbal. In what mode do you have the gimbal? Follow?
Awesome video bro! Who needs a gym anymore? LOL
thanks to you I don't need a gym membership anymore haha
Bunnings always there when you need it as an on the budget Aussie filmmaker!
Some Suggestions to balance the sony a6000 with the 16-55mm kit lens... On weebill s... I still can't balance it correctly....
If you try follow the steps as best as possible it will work. try just do one axis at a time
Does it gotta be the webble s , I have the rs2
Hey mate, I have a moza air 2 with follow focus and a puller. I use gh5 but mostly bmpcc4k rig which moza air 2 actually powers the whole shibang. Have a couple extra hundred bucks laying around. What do you recommend for a bit of a heavier rig as far as stedicams go
My steadicam was cheap from eBay. Anything will definitely work. It more comes down to what you're willing to pay for slight quality difference
Did this with a red this week, heavy! But worth it
oh damn! that would be amazing to see
Jason, will this work only with a Weebill? I have a Ronin-S with a Canon 6D ii. Will this work or will it be too heavy? Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing!
It will work with and camera and gimbal. It's just being able to balance it is the key
Have you tried it with your Ronin? Got a AK4000 and a GH5 and I really do not trust the small screw that will hold Gimbal + Camera.
How well does the gimbal hold on the steady cam? I have a Crane 2, which I would like to try with this, but I am worried about that small bolt holding it on... Any concerns from you about doing that?
providing that your steadicam is half decent. mine was still really cheap and does the job quite well. i am not worried at all to be honest
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Thanks! I appreciated it. Due to the coronavirus, I stuck in USA and cannot return to China where I live. Once I arrive there, I will buy one and see how it goes.
So in order to do that, I need to Just buy an Stedycam..? No adapters or...something..? Just like that? - Plz..answer 😔😞😞
exactly. Mine was a very cheap steadicam
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema got it thank but you think this Method will work with my Dji rs2..?
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema it something I really want to try.
Sir I have a question or can anyone answer this..
Can I use moza air cross 2 or other gimbal with fly/steady cam to make the fake arti Trinity ? Please help me.
Yes, you can use practically any gimbal
Yes bro , you can . But all you have to know is basics of physics in balancing the both steadicam/ fly cam & as well as gimble. I’m also working to combine my ronin-s with flycam If you have any doubts please feel free to ask
Does the combo work with crane 2?
one more thing that you can do is add a waist rig for stabilizer
you wouldn't happen to have a link to that pdf do you?
Yeah, everyone doing this now
I have a Sony A6500& sigma 28-70 lens
Wonder if you can make a video with osmo pocket and some kind of steadycam
yes, i will actually be doing this very soon. stay tuned Raychard
i wanna see video shot with this
How much is it all in total that thing is beast
the gimbal is around $400 US and steadicam is around $40 US
Hi Jason, also inspired by Josh Morgan´s and James Matthiew´s DIY approach I build the “Micro Trinity“ out of an Osmo Pocket and a Flycam! Feel free to check it out on my channel. Cheers.
i will check it out Nico. Thank you
Can I do this with the webyiil lab
Most definitely you can
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema thanks
Nice video. Well done for crediting your sources for inspiration - too many plagiarists out there.
thank you. Yes, I always try to credit where necessary
Now you have to make a Poverty Version: Osmo Pocket Trinity
you know, I was thinking that at one point haha
Someone already made it and called it the Micro Trinity: ruclips.net/video/-vjGJ5vUEsU/видео.html
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Thanks for sharing that link!!!!
What I want to know, is there a way to make this even smaller?
Remove the bottom base plate thing, reduce the needs to add weight to the top. All this really needs to be is a pole about or less then 3 feet long with that handle. But if there is a way to add a mount to attach a cellphone/wireless adapter so we can get a better view of what were doing.
Jason Morris, make it so! lol
If I would have a 100k camera I would never spend as much on the gimbal...I mean, the image comes from the camera... Amazon best buy's should be fine.
The steadicam should be balanced equal and both side should be same weight. Cause that will help you stay at one angle with holding the steadicam!!! That's how the real trinity works
Yeah I understand this is how most of these work. This actually how I prefer to operate it. I should have mentioned this in the video
You know what, just use a z axis stabiliser
I made it for unter 200 dollar with a 80 dollar analog gimbal + dji osmo mobile :)
" So by budget you mean..
Get a $50,000.00 loan from a bank "
need more result shot than talk and behind the scene shot...
if you are really trying to mimic Arri Trinity then you have to balance the steadycam / glide cam so it stays in the orientation that you put it in. the "2-3 Second drop/fall" rule doesn't apply for this application. make sure it is perfectly balanced at any plane so it doesn't move in any direction.
