The one marvellous main thing that this concert has in common with the Celebration tour is that Madonna is actually ENJOYING HERSELF and making it look EFFORTLESS. Every tour between these two she is super serious and focused about what she is presenting, and making it all look like hard work, like she has something to prove. Here she has nothing to prove, she is the biggest female star in the world with the biggest selling album of the year. She's so relaxed. Enjoy it.

This was my first Madonna concert. My parents dropped my twin, me and my little sister at Anaheim Stadium June 18th, 1987. I was 17 years old. Such a fun concert. We had 8th row on the floor and we’re OBSESSED with all things Madonna and 40 years later still obsessed but now I’m 54 years old. So crazy.

This was my first Madonna tour (Roundhay Park, Leeds, UK 1987). I went with my mum and cousin, I was only 9...from that moment I was hooked. I've never missed seeing her live on tour since (last one was Oct last year for The Celebration Tour in London). The band are amazing on this one, all real instruments, no backing and computerised mixing, just good old fashioned live kick ass band. This would be the first glimpse of what she would go on to create in terms of touring. Pioneer

Bummed this is the Tokyo version though and not "Ciao Italia" as the Italian concert finale encore section is so much better and iconic with the audience all yelling out, Madonna talking Italian a lot to them, and the iconic HAIR. Maybe you can watch that version for the 2nd part?

TIL the same opening video segment was used for the Tokyo and Italy shows. Without your fantasy here with me....I bought the VHS for this tour from the MTV Video Music Club in 1990. For the Blond Ambition Tour, which version is a tough call. Nice France version at the end of the tour is more polished and she's a little more in your face classic Madonna. Japan version has the iconic ponytail and her voice is a bit stronger since its at the beginning of the tour. With this version of Who's that Girl versus Ciao Italia!, I much prefer the Italy video interlude during Papa Don't Preach. Maybe a second version just highlighting and commenting on the differences between the two?
