Track 2: Beat Box (Diversion One) I love the little piano solo at the end of Beat Box, but it was too short, so I looped that part, blended the audio and made it song-length. Anne Dudley just released an album of piano re-works of AON music. Her version of Beat Box features a 2+ minutes of variations around this little piano part!

Love love love this piano piece. I searched everywhere for the sheet music but couldn't find it. So, I re-created it. It's an approximation of course, but probably close enough to enable others to learn this beautiful piece of music. You can find the sheet music here bit.ly/aon-beatbox-piano I spent a while listening to the track (the brilliant Riffstation tool helped a lot!) and played it live into Logic Pro X. Then exported the score from that to a PDF. Hope others find it useful!

Well, Ann Dudley has answered your prayers because she released an album called "Ann Dudley Plays the Art of Noise" and she does a subtle rendition of this part which FINALLY extends this piece and provides the resolution we've all clamored for these past 30 years!!
This was always the best part of the song. You just close your eyes, and nod your head to the beauty of those keys!
My first copy of this album was on audio cassette and I constantly played, then reversed it back to the spot where it began, over and over again because I loved it so much. When I got it on CD that wasn't an option, but I had a computer and some software so I could make my own loop without the button pushing.

Yes it is...My favorite part of the song also. I used to breakdance to this song. This part chokes me up...breakdancing in slow motion...then walking home in the sunset with my beat box under my arm.

You and me both. I first heard Beat Box on the radio while I was going to animation school in Canada back in the 80s and fell in love with it. The moment it went from synthpop to piano was like Dorothy opening the door to OZ.

Beat Box has always been one of the Art of Noise best pieces, but this piano portion is by far the best measures in the entire piece. Perfect amount of loopage here, not too long, not too short, just right, and virtually seemless.

I can't thank you enough for putting this up. I purchased this album when I was 16...I'm now 56 and still find this piano break profoundly moving.....takes me right back to sitting in My bedroom listening over and over to this.

You're very welcome, and thank you for your kind response. Editing this was quite a challenge since the volume levels varied a lot from clip to clip, and I was constantly adjusting as well as blending each clip so it sounded natural. In some cases I used the first few frames of a clip and pasted them in reverse before the clip began, raising the volume up from zero so I got that wonderful piano echo throughout. Timing was easier than I hoped and really just a matter of following the finger-snaps which were very precise and easy to follow. The rest of it was all by ear; editing, then listening for flaws, which is the reason there is an "09" in the title. It took nine tries to get it right.

Thank you. You might try Jellynote.com or something similar as I found sheet music for other Art of Noise music there. I also found this piece (The Art of Noise - Beat Box - Piano Loop 09) on something called Chordify.net which at least shows the chords in a form that I think someone with skill with a piano could decipher. There has to be an archive copy of the music from the original 1984 studio session somewhere, and maybe the raw recording too. Maybe someone who was there will release it sometime in the future. I hope so.
