When I was starting out buying games, one of the first ones I remember was Lunar the Silver Star story complete. That was a fantastic collectors edition at the time. But over the years, it seems we’ve been flooded with hollow collectors editions, limited editions, day one editions, signature editions, and deluxe editions. They all seem to be getting More and more on the cheap side with download vouchers and other half assed efforts. Do you guys still think some are worth having? Or should we play it safe with just a good ol fashion standard edition for our new games

They keep coming out with new things to call them. Limited,Premium, Crystal Box, all it boils down to most of the time is "Here's a small art book, a sample OST, a coffee cup coaster, a left shoe and the game. That'll be $250"
250?!? Editions like the one you described usually cost the same or a tenner more than the standard ones where I shop.
Everybody, the answer was, "A lot of them don't really seem like they're worth your time." You're welcome. lol
If they don't put the entire game on the physical version they are offending collectors big time and I refuse to buy that crap.
I rarely ever buy special or collector editions
They don't even make instructions booklets anymore
They need to
@@ThugNinja they who?

I just remember buying the Collector's Edition of GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 even before I boght my PS3.. it was crazy.. but totally worth it!!
I used to care about collector's editions, but now not so much. They take up too much room, too pricey and honestly the contents within are never worth the inflated price anyways. Only games I have CE's for are for Zelda games and a few Rockstar titles (particularly Red Dead 1 & 2).
Ni no kuni 2 was 250 on release. now it's like 120
Ye I paid full price for mine when it came out because I liked the 1st one, should of waited for that one and get it cheap
Soulcalibur VI collector's edition is great.Just look at that Sophitia statue.
Ye I paid full price when it came out around xmas time and til this day it is selling for about a third of the price
Your right. Download vouchers suck in a complete edition.
I bought the tekken 7 collector's edition for 150 euro, 3 weeks later they were selling it for 54 euro. if you want to buy a collector's edition, buy one from an AAA company, those get sold out fast, and resold for almost double the price.
I do play modern games however, I'm so lucky to be a retro gamer from the early days of gaming and happen to own retro games! I miss the days were games were complete-on-disc or game card or cartridge. No worrying about downloading a much needed patch of a game that you haven't yet played years later! Thanks Reg! Real game enthusiast need to watch this vid. On the contrary, the large number of consumers are just casual players so THEY WILL NEVER CARE about patches, DLC etc or games as much as we do and companies know and take advantage of that fact!!!
Sometimes and depends on the price. If it's one of a game I really want I'll consider it, otherwise I usually wait for clearance prices on them. For instance I got the doom ce for $40, tekken 7 for $30, GOW for $50, wwe 2k18 cena nuff for $18
Anything Ys collector's edition is Ysily worth it 😁.. too bad Working Designs isn't around anymore they were always my fav when it came to collector's editions
Nice man:):):) I got so many in the basement.
100 percent agree
I agree regarding Ys VIII. That was probably the last great Collector's edition I bought. Everything else is seems to have minimal effort put in these days.
I'm a huge Resident Evil 2 fan and I've yet to buy the remake because I know Capcom will re-release it complete at some point. The Deluxe edition was so disappointing, personally. Heck, they even re-released the original RE2 with the Dual Shock version back then so I think it's inevitable.
Some are, some are not. Some go up in value, some stay around retail and some become near worthless. Really it's hit or miss with CE and I tend to only get the ones I really like, usually Nintendo related ones because they hold value better.
Great video Rad Reg! I agree, when u buy a collector's edition it should all be on the disc, not some bs digital code that becomes worthless after it expires! Physical media all day
I like the Collectors Edition for games I really really want which are only a few and far in between the rest I wait until it's 6 to 12 months old for cheaper price.
Ive got God of war collectors edition on PS3. Has some cool art postcard things I've put on my wall. I like posters too, stuff u can use or that u put on show. I remember in old games like alot of Sega ones you'd get a poster of all the new games or cover art blown up. That stuffs cool. I need to get more. There a hell treat for me cause I'm poor :p Nice vid mate!
Great video. I used to almost buy CEs exclusively, but somewhere along the way, I realized many were not worth it and took up too much space. Nowadays, I'm picky and will buy one if it's small with just an art book, CD, and nice small case with a minor price premium. No longer buying huge CEs with cheap statues or toys.
I just recently picked up the Ni No Kuni 2 CE you mentioned in this video from Gamestop for a whopping $30. From $200 down to $30. Insane. I already had the game, but fuck it, for $30 it was not bad. $200? No. $30? Thank you! Before that, I bought the Catherine Full Body CE for PS4 because I had the Best But GC discount on it which brought it down to just a few bucks more than a regular edition.
Anyway, thanks for the videos, man. Always good content. Much love, Reg.
I see Europe gets more physical releases of games and Blu-rays that the US doesn't get. It really pisses me off, Americans so content with their digital garbage.
I only buy collector's editions, limited, etc when the entire game is on the physical media. Otherwise, what's the point? And even then, you still may not be worth it because of all the patches. You have to wait it out and be very choosey.
Not if Resident Evil 4 and Shenmue Three are anything to say about it. Unless it's like Mortal Kombat where they'll get all the characters and downloadable content in a later game.
They dont want you reselling where the person buying second hand gets benefit
The persona 5 limited was amazing
I understand the feeling of getting the short end of the stick. As always great video Reggie. 👍
Example My Opinion: Persona the Endless Night Edition. Bought it because I enjoyed Persona 4 Dancing All Night on my Vita. Plus it was $20 cheaper then buying Persona 3 and Persona 5 rhythm games separately.
I just wish they added a physical disc for the fourth game or added the fourth game on one of the two discs. Instead it's a dlc voucher. The storage for those games are smaller compared to other games.
Generally speaking does it ruin and potential resale value if you open the item and enjoy the contents? I'm considering buying a numbered edition Close Encounters soundtrack SACD and am wondering if it would be better to put it on a shelf instead of listening to it.
hello, and what about signature edition games that do merge ?
i mean i think for the price usually 50-60€ are totally worth it like streets of rage 4 or tmnt shredders revenge or alex kide in miracle world
I like to take my game out, platinum it, then place it back in the box box lol
Although it’s 5 months old, I recently purchased Death Stranding from PlayStation for $100.00 shipped!
I can understand the allure of collector's editions, but they aren't for me. I'm just not the kind of person to be that much of a fan of anything, really. I'd rather spend my money on more games!
I don't have space left for collector's edition I started moving boxes to mum's... that says it all... no more! (now the problem is resisting trails 3... code vein.. neptunia rpg... ouch!)
Hello. What is that awesome game at minute 6.35 ??

@@The_RadicalOne . Thanks a lot man. Greetings from Mexico
Tales series has one of the best collectors editions
There just carp in a box
Fish
If I can I try to find the statues or the actual collectables separately if not then I buy the collectors editon. But honestly I just end up buying the older generation of collector's editon on ebay
Depends on the price, these days they are way to expensive.
I collect the collectors editions and never open them. It’s the only way there worth anything
They have to be pretty special to me and even then I’d rather buy second hand
Is this the Secret MJR Version of this video???
If you save them for 40 or 50 years, possibly yes. If you think you're gonna make money on them in 5 or 10 years, probably not.
😀
I'm guilty of buying Ni no Kuni 2 collector Ed day one.....I regret it. I mean it's great but if I know that every Gamestop in my area would still have them, I would had wait. Could had save $100 bucks
Unless you collect soundtracks, I feel as though most are simply cash grabs unfortunately
I cant stand collectors editions. Theyre all different size boxes and mostly just cheap collectibles. I stick to standard. They look so clean on a shelf
The last collector's edition I got was for Friday the 13th... then the game got nerfed by justice! 😑😶🙈
Hey, are the CE for Cyberpunk 2077 and The last of us part 2 worth it?
Watch the video, and you will know the answer. Check the comments too
Its not worth it because the game companies just use the term to sell many copies, and its not even collector worthy at all. The post PS2 gen of consoles and games in general began to decline in quality and that aura of greatness that was so prevalent in decades past. People waste their hard earned cash on dumb stuff though, just look at the "dumb phone" industry. Just sign me up for the collectors editions that come with a hot stepford wife lol.
What about ps4's exclusive The last of us 2 : Ellie's edition & collector edition ? 169$ & 229$ !!! 😕
The collector's edition is 180 euro here that's way too freaking much, you can literally buy a second hand ps4 or switch with that kind of money. I was about to buy it but I obviously wasn't thinking straight, I guess the hype of the release date made me want to buy it.
@@darkbydaglicht totally agree with you!! Maybe special edition will be a good choice (79.99$) & save the money for ps5 or other games like deathstranding/cyber punk etc . 😅
@@dhaivat5016 yeah for real, collector's editions look nice but at the end of the day you want to play the game. so that's why I'll just buy games .
@@darkbydaglicht its mean that you are not the target market. Like its name "Collector Edition", its for the collector. If you are a hardcore fan of a title you will buy everything that relate to that title. if you are just a gamer, its true you just have to pick the standard, special or deluxe edition.
Nothing
No
yeah, you're getting old.
