I agree, equating Fundamentalist Christianity with New Testament Christianity is quite the leap. It has always seemed to me that the culture was really the central point in the IFB, not the Bible or doctrine. If the Lord were to visit there would be a real 'come to Jesus' moment for most. American Christianity of the 40's and 50's left much to be desired then, and was the direct cause of what occurred in the 60's and 70's. The 'old time religion' everyone wants to sing about is not Christianity, it's paganism, and what we see across the board is a return to paganism. From what I have observed, Jack's preacher boys behave much like the freemasons, down to calling each other Brother. They network and associate only within their group, they cover over and protect criminals in their number, they wrest Scripture, have a uniform, do business amongst themselves, and abuse women and small children. One pastor I know of in particular 'taught with his fingers and spoke with his feet'. That is their 'old-time religion' and they can keep it.

Everyone at some point says something outta context!! Why would you put forth the time and effort to make fun of these men! Most all of them preach the gospel!… why don’t you put your efforts into calling out heretics that don’t preach the gospel? Rather than making fun of a few statements these men make!!! People need Christ and his word, not old time religion. There's a difference between the two. Old time religion binds people to the law that Christ delivers believers from (GALATIANS 3). We're to walk in the Spirit instead of the law (GALATIANS 5:18).
Orthodox and Catholic TLM (not Novus ordo) have liturgy and hymns that go back to the early centuries. Protestantism came in the 16th century and progressively became more stripped and stranger and stranger as time went on, with narcissists starting their own denominations and decadence.

Their “Old Time Religion” is 20th century religion, yeah, specifically 40s and 50s. IFB churches are very contemporary in comparison to earlier churches. How long did it take the church to finally accept pianos and stringed instruments into their worship services? If you want to truly get a better feel for a VERY old fashioned service, I would look to a Nazarene or Apostolic church. Instruments are forbidden in services, their services can last for several hours, they sing and pray until they lose their voice, and elders basically control their congregations life even outside the church house. They’re very much cults, but they’re extremely old fashioned in their worship style. Easily 300-800 A.D style. Not exact, but pretty close.

The early church wasn’t “high church” in appearance because they simply didn’t have it yet. Not to mention the early church didn’t have organs. These churches today do. My point remains that fundamental conservative Nazarene or Apostolic churches probably represent how an early church could have looked.
@@CC-iu7sqThat’s not true. Even in the earliest years of Christianity, during Pentecost, the services were conducted similarly to the Jewish liturgies. St. Justin Martyr in AD150 writes about the liturgy and Mass. Nazarenes and “Apostolics” (who misuse that title) are complete innovators.

The amount of change is so significant between even just a couple of decades during the earliest eras. Most of the liturgical beliefs weren’t in practice yet, there certainly wasn’t access to the architectural designs yet, and most of the decorations are post 1000 AD in design. The earliest Christian churches that weren’t blended with Jewish tradition were simple. Not a lot of liturgy. Not a lot of decoration. And absolutely a lack of musical equipment. And the largest churches that mimic that style would be the fundie circles of Nazarene and Apostolic congregations. I’m not saying accurate in belief. I’m talking purely from a design perspective.

I don’t mean to sound snarky because honestly I was very much a “Fundamentalist” as a came out of a Roman Catholic upbringing and thought I had found the truth there ; what I noticed however after many years in fundamentalism was that despite some obvious differences regarding Mary and Baptism and other things of course , Fundamentalism’s structure was eerily similar to Roman Catholicism without the “bells and whistles” ; IFB also changed the office of pope into the office of the untouchable , all knowing , Holy “man of God” ( “pastor”) who expects the same fidelity of the pope while one is a member of his club (church) As if that wasn’t enough I started to see that what Fundamentalists generally preach and teach is for the most part devoid of mercy , grace , and the Love of Christ ; they’re the strict sect of the modern Pharisee’s.

If you want to truly get a better feel for a VERY old fashioned service, I would look to a Nazarene or Apostolic church.
