Love your video. But i want to correct your comment on 2:40 perhaps saying prawn noodle use bigger prawn in the late 80s and 90s. (The reason of using smaller prawn not freshwater, could be that it has a sweeter taste. That is why Sambal Chilli likes to use those prawn. Love the taste of those traditional prawn noodle then. You also see that in Hokkien mee.) But in the late 70s or early 80s, my dad brought me to a prawn noodle store that is beside or close to KK Hospital. You have to ask people that have gone to KK Children Hospital or work there. You have to research that a little where this prawn noodle is or where they relocated. That was the first time I saw prawn noodle with bigger prawn, that you pay extra. At that time prawn noodle are cheap hawker food, this store sold bigger prawn and cost more. I remembered seeing the bigger prawn displayed vividly it was before my Pre-U and army.
Hi, thanks for sharing! Maybe I should adjust my comment to say that maybe this stall popularised jumbo prawns in prawn mee then haha. Don’t mind, I pin your comment so that it gives the vlog a bit more context!
@@GregoryLeow no worries... maybe they started the trend but first stall i saw was the KK Hospital store with the prawn noodle. I think ask anyone that visited that place in the 70s or 80s for routine visit might tell you. I visited the hand made muah chee store at Toa Payoh after watching your video I think that used to be at the Simon Rd wet market. Had a fun 5 minute conversation of old time sake of that store. The owner was surprised I remembered the old Simon Rd store. Used to visit when I was doing my national service on my way back.
I think I found the place... it could be Wah Kee Prawn Noodle. Since it looks right with the full prawn - not split. And I remember the price in the late 70s. I read the comments about that it isn't as good as the father or grandfather who ran it previously. Long history - 70 years.
Thank you for the very thorough review, just like most of your reviews. One major criticism of this place - parking is a nightmare! Otherwise, one of the best in the east hands down.
Never knew Blanco Court @ Beach Road and this are “sort of related”. Although both of them share the same concept (ie - Ngoh Hiang stall), still I find the Blanco Court one better. Probably I have been eating it for many years. Thank you Greg for the review!
Love your videos mate. Im in Sydney Australia and while we have a decent number Malaysian restaurants with Prawn noodles it probably not as good as Penang or Singapore but costs $17 for a large portion but tiny prawns. This is my top 5 favourite dishes and your videos creating this itch to fly to SG to try the places you recommend
Go try River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles at 31 Tai Tong Cres, and can pair it with Lao Zhong Zhong ngoh hiang prawn cracker as well just right opposite.
East treasure Dong Bao at Joo chiat is also good. Considered cheap with the atmosphere and staff are polite. One prawn co is nice but overly expensive. Unless crazy rich asians then go eat at $18ea. Portion is small. Went during soft launch price was like $8-$9. After that when I went back become $18 😂 was too hungry so no choice eat at $18 and will never be back. Geylang prawn noodle along Paya Lebar is good as well. Well priced and good portion. Problem is parking during peak hours.
I miss Singapore hawker foods. I might like to try the ‘dry’ prawn noodles instead and have the pork ribs and pork tail on the side without the soup in it. I might want to drink the soup separately from the pig tail and pork rib. If / when COVID-19 is gone, I would like to revisit Singapore 🇸🇬.
Lucky you, nowadays the standard of this prawn noodle place is quite inconsistent, sometimes good and most of the time bad, ngoh hiang is completely "forgettable" now, I already stop eating there.
I’ve eaten at the Blanco Court @ Beach Road too. The prawn noodle soup however is not as tasty as the one here. I like the pig’s tail soup with yellow Mee and beehoon.
Can you review Fresh Taste Prawn Noodles at Zion Road Hawker center? I feel that one is better Beach Road Prawn Mee. Even for the dry version he gives u a big bowl of soup with all the ingredients! Order the $12 or $8.
You mean 58 Prawn Noodle. That's my favourite too esp its dry kway teow version. Beach Road Prawn Noodle House is probably one of the best along East Coast Road especially for those who like BIG PRAWNS and generally good soup and sauce, willing to pay which is not an issue for crazy rich foodies🤣😂 - just joking.
I also remember the prawn noodle by Bedok, haven't been there for so long? Was it near the army camp? I also remember the Kang Kong and Cuttle Fish - that one is very good.
I live in the East. This is easily the worst prawn noodle over here with at least five better options located in close proximity to each other (including most of the options at Old Airport Road hawker centre).

There is no prawn noodles without a good prawn broth. That is the spirit of the dish

kudos to your dedication👍👍👍travelling half across singapore THREE times to check out the prawn noodles

the one at bedok reservoir has much more flavour and depth, please do try it (58 prawn noodle) dry version. Cheaper and larger portion too
Ohh yes 1 of the best prawn noodles BEACH ROAD. Im staying near at Siglap & loves their prawn noodles. Thank you for the coverage bro 👌🏼😃

I eat so many years, i didnt know can get pork lard and fried onion on the side!!! Next trip will ask for those :)
Greg, like to see the way you express, make me feel Hungary, 😋👍
ya their broth is the best!
didn't know you could ask for their shallot and lard on the side, rip my tummy
Thank you Greg now I know where to find good prawn noodle.
Try the one prawn co at MacPherson Pawn mee in claypot
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
That seems so delicious
🤩
Yummy 😋 this looks so good!
yeah many good prawn noodles around.. if lazy/inconvenient to go to East Coat Road
Bro Try Don Prawn Noodles @ Circuit Road Food Centre
Really Good She uses Red Leg Prawns
It’s on my list already! But thanks for reminding
Go try River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles at 31 Tai Tong Cres, and can pair it with Lao Zhong Zhong ngoh hiang prawn cracker as well just right opposite.
Standard has dropped massively though, the broth there tastes incredibly diluted in recent times!
If you ever seen how they cook their broth... You wouldn't say much about the prawn mee... Literally uses whole bottle of light soya sauce
Hoe nam is good

I do find blanco one better. Quite spot…. Many good prawn noodles around Singapore…. Just need to research. Keep up the great work

The old Joo Chiat road prawn mee was the best in the east .
Go try the prawn mee at 704 Bedok Reservoir Road. That one more solid.

@@mindtwister1984 yup that’s the one. All time favourite. Back then not many ppl knew this place. But recently more food bloggers have featured them.
@@krappola1 nope not the one at Bedok south market. The one I referring to is at Bedok reservoir
Local champion!
Greg you lost weight! Looking good
Does this stall also sell vegetable side dishes 🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥦🥦🥦🥦🥕🥕🥕🥕???
You need to soak the prawn cracker in the broth.
Compare it to Ho Nam River South Prawn Noodles?
Always wanna try there but I see the crowd I reverse haha
Go late, or go early. the crowd actually moves quite fast. Dont have to wait too long usually.
Good show,nice food…!!!! 👍👍👍
Look like your afternoon prawns 🍤 have shrunk !
Greg looking lean and tan (or is the former due to the effect of latter?) despite downing so much food for viewers' benefits. Great work!
haha, thank you for the nice words. Exercise and diet :)
Thanks Greg for sharing 🙏🏼👍 enjoyed your videos
新加坡的蝦麵不錯,跟馬來西亞的有點不一樣,料大件
Greg, heir is pronounced as air
Is pork laard healthy??
Yes it is healthy except for the high omega 6 content ruclips.net/video/TRB0jOfymLk/видео.html
Why not 4 halves of the prawns 🍤🍤to make it two equal prawns?
I'm watching
How does the broth compare to Da Dong at Joo Chiat?
no fight... Da Dong better
I'm drooling for the pig tail & pork ribs soup, does the taste of the prawn be affected when it's slice half or served whole?
perhaps, but ive tasted other prawn mee stalls where their half prawns taste nicely sweet, so its likely source based
Please go try Da Dong, this review deserves a second opinion.
But where do you think is a good prawn noodles option in the Western part of Singapore?
google Seng Heng prawn noodles, Jurong
@@GregoryLeow how about joo chiat prawn mee @ west coast
$12.50 the portion still look small
Hmm, felt this store has become very mediocre especially in the last ten years.
The best prawn noodles I had was in xiamen, fujian. I believe the founder of blanco court prawn mee was from there.
China is disgusting
The best prawn mee in Singapore is Da Dong at Joo Chiat and it's not even close.
Very true. The real eastsider.
he's the owner of the da dong. so please take his words with a pinch of salt
I disagree that da Dong serves better prawn noodles. I have tried both of them. Da Dong $8 versus $6.5 beach road
@@TheIneedtopee LOL
@@elisalim4102 You think that beach road one is better is not because of the price right?
IMO i hav at least 3 prawn mee to go to then beach road
this is nt even my top 10

I live in the East. This is easily the worst prawn noodle over here with at least five better options located in close proximity to each other (including most of the options at Old Airport Road hawker centre).
Tried a few times. Pretty lousy and nowhere near the best, unless you never tried other prawn mee before.
Overrated stall....
Frustrating. More eating less talking.
