    After a couple of weeks of reviewing the OnePlus 12 global edition - there's no OnePlus 12 Pro - it costs $799 in the US / £849 in the UK and has instantly shot up to the top spots of my smartphone rankings if the price is right where you live. In the US, it undercuts the Galaxy S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro, but it still crams in loads of storage, power, stunning specs and a very good camera system. Is it perfect? No. My version didn't have a case in the box, it's also much more expensive in Europe than the US, and the slippery back could result in an untimely demise for this very good phone if you drop it - but if you can get past those issues, it's an exceptionally balanced smartphone, and a very easy to recommend option.

    Is the OnePlus Open a fair price where you live? Ranging from $799 to £849 and €949 for the 256GB version with 12GB RAM, I still think that it's super-competitive given how good it is as a package, though folks in the US look set to get the best value. What do you think?

      Small correction - OnePlus "12", not Open lol. Btw in India the OP12 costs exactly the half of S24 Ultra which has similar specs & performance with only few additional features so I definitely think it's decently priced here and infact I haven't seen anyone complaining about it so far either.

    Mind that these Geekbench scores shown are before enabling the High Performance mode. When you turn this on in battery > advanced settings, the scores are on par with any other high end snapdragon 8 Gen.3 phone out there.

    Hi Basil, do you know if, when using a magnifier app, ie. Cozy magnifier from Hantorm, that the magnifier make use of all sensors, ie so the magnification is not locked to the main sensor only..? I'm using my magnifier as a stamp magnifier(close range), and not using all sensors wouldn't do the job proberly. I know that Motorola has this issue (edge 30 ultra) but not the galaxy S23 ultra. I can't tell if it's a gui or interface issue but it's definitely not the app.

    In my country OP12 16/512gb about $300 cheaper than S24U at the same storage option it's insane tbh. Of course I'm gonna buy OP12 instead.

    definitely well-priced. It technically released at the same price as the Oneplus 11 did on launch, just better cameras and a bigger battery. I wouldn't upgrade from my OP 11 but anyone with older oneplus phones is definitely worth the upgrade.

    It is totally a steal. Just preordered through oneplus website. Sending in my old galaxy s10+ and got another $150 off. Basically getting the silky black 16gb 512gb storage for a little less than $700 including tax in the US. Great review video, I do believe it to be a very well-balanced phone with heavy display specs and great battery. It's a major upgrade for me that won't completely break the bank. Cheers

    I'm a little concerned with what appears to be a little overzealous throttling from Oneplus. Sure, it's not likely to be a problem when the phone is new, but what about 2 or 3 years later when the battery starts degrading? We all know throttling happens then too. So adding the throttling Oneplus does to the phone out of the box to battery degradation could lead to a frustrating experience down the line

    • @tech_edit
      @tech_edit  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Franklin, I might need some education on this as I don't follow. Other than speed reduction, throttling isn't bad for battery, is it? OnePlus is at an advantage for a few reasons when it comes to longterm use. Throttling puts less pressure on the battery over time as the CPU isn't maxed out and drain is reduced. Additionally, the OnePlus 12 has a larger battery than the competiton. Finally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is immensely powerful. As phones from three years ago are still running very smoothly, even underclocked, the 8 Gen 3 should deliver stable, smooth performance for a long time. I don't claim to know a huge amount about CPUs, so if I'm missing anything, please do let me know. Basil

      @franklingoodwin 5 месяцев назад +3

      A combination of high VAT charges and companies poorly converting GBP prices to USD when they should be converting to Euros. It's Rip-off Britain as usual

    Great and calm review as always. It looks like a great phone for the price with a great performance. Its just a shame that Oneplus is sold on the west, but not Oppo.

    Thank you.

      @@tech_edit Great! I know the cameras are very high-end, so my questions would be more focused on how your experience with this phone is when using it in the Europe or the west in general. I will probably buy the phone anyway next month but it would be nice to have your feedback! Thank you and keep it up!

      @@patrickrod9363been using the X7 U for a few days now. Yes, absolutely a stellar camera phone. I am based in Europe, have been experiencing 5G, Android Auto and Google Maps timeline issues. GPay has been very good thus far. On another note, I believe a global version has suddenly become very real, as OPPO settled a legal matter with Nokia. @tech_edit Would really appreciate if we also get further updates on this.

    Unfortunately, like the white color the case is only available in the Chinese variance. In addition, I live in North America and the 11 and the 12 both charge at 80 w. However, they're both supposed to charge at 100 w in europe.
    I've been using an 11 since last febuary and I absolutely love it. I hate to move it over to my secondary device but, the 12 is so amazing that I decided to pre-order it.

    This was the best review of this phone that I've seen so far. There are so many reviewers who are so far up Apple and Samsung's intestines, that they struggle to get what OnePlus has achieved here - which is a "balanced" device for just about any consumer in the market for a new phone.
