I already recommended this place to tourists who stayed in Osaka for a long time. But I sometimes miss Aussie coffee and stop by Melbourne Coffee in Honmachi before work. Ok Sunny. Just left my last leg fo my Japan trip at guess where.....Osaka. BC of the video, me and mine had a ball. You are on point. Took your advice and stayed at Hilton Osaka right next to the station which btw train station can be confusing. Went to the castle, the island, and the off the path place you mentioned for shopping. Talking about shopping, my wife shopped until my knees hurt. Thx for your help we had the best time ever. U DA BEST
Thanks! I went for 3 days last year and felt like I'd seen most of what it has to offer, but some great tips here! Heading over again next year and have 6 nights there (tho using it as a base for Himeji/Kobe/Kyoto/Nara trips as well).
Thank you and kudos for giving Osaka the respect that it deserves! It's always been next-level Japan for visitors. You really have to go beyond Japan clichés to appreciate it. Hi there! I’m glad you found the video useful 🙂 I guess it depends on what you’re planning on doing! Shinsaibashi is great if you plan on exploring both umeda and downtown, as it’s in the middle, but staying near Osaka station is more convenient, especially if you’re planning on taking day trips to Kyoto and Nara Having said that, shinsaibashi is close to namba, which also has a lot of trains servicing it.

‘There really wasn’t much to do in Osaka’. WHAT!? I found myself spoilt for choice of things to do in Osaka. But, I do think that Osaka is way more (for the lack of a better term) ‘vibey’ than Tokyo. So I feel that you get the best experience out of Osaka if you don't just hop between touristy / sightseeing spots, and you allow yourself to wander around and be open to where the day takes you. I also think that the people make Osaka. I found locals to be far more talkative in Osaka than Tokyo, and they made so many great suggestions of things to see and do that guides didn’t list. Locals pretty much completely shaped my itinerary, so I owe so much of my great experience in Osaka to them. Osaka TO ME is a pretty social city. So you have to be willing to lean into that. Even if you’re a pretty solitary traveller with an introvert personality type-try to be open.
I am shocked to hear some foreigners saying Osaka is boring.Osaka is voted every year as one of the top nightlife cities in Japan. Some neighborhoods you didn't mention that are unique are: Den Den Town (Osaka's Akihabara), Tsuruhashi (old school Koreatown), and Ikuno Koreatown (modern version). Also there is an onsen theme park at Osaka Bay Hotel.
In 2018 i visited Osaka as part of the golden route. It was my favorite part of the trip. In 2019 we went back to Osaka and took 2 of oud best Friends with us and had an absolute blast! Then COVID hit and Osaka became somewhat of an obsession. Last year i went back in my own and i explored the city without a real plan for 11 days and had the time of my Life. Last week i went to Fukuoka and Hiroshima and because of the Shanghai typhoon i ended Up 1 extra day in Osaka. It accidentally confirmed what i knew deep down inside: Osaka is my favorite place in the whole damn world. Having said all this: in my time i watched waaaay to much Osaka video’s on RUclips and they all show the same thing. But!!! This is the best Osaka video i have seen till date! Its great and so right and full of useful info! Cheers!
Wow! Such a lovely compliment from someone that appreciates Osaka as much as I do means so much! 🥹 It sounds like you’ve explored more than me - do you have any favourite areas?
Youre welcome! I personally love the tennoji area, with harukas300 , Lots of malls with tons of restaurants in the basements and also with the tenshiba park which hold a beautiful ‘wooden’ supermarket. Southeast of dobotsuen Mae station there is a very very quirky Somewhat gritty Street full of karaoke bars where the Japanese get really drunk and sing kind of eh, loud & without Shame. Tons of bbq restaurants also! Extreme retro vibes. You van Find It by lookibg Up taishi park on Google as the streets runs Rutger through it! Also love the Yodogawa Riverside park at night with the city lights in the distance. Cheers from the Netherlands!
I like how you mentioned Umeda and Kitahama district in the video, since many people just visit Dotonbori or Tsutenkaku because media only shows that part of Osaka and they don’t really know that Osaka has CBD as urban and populated as Tokyo.
Lovely!! Love this vdo. Thank you so much Sunny. Really like the way that the vdo allowed me to hear the sound of the place and can feel the atmosphere. Watching but feel like I am at the place in the vdo. I always wait for your vdo.
Well, still, there is not much there to 'see'. But that is why We feel at home in Osaka. I think the charm of Osaka is that you can drink, eat, live, sleep, and walk comfortably in Osaka, and if you want to go somewhere, you can easily go anywhere from the neighboring cities of Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe to as far as Hokkaido or Okinawa. You can go also anywhere in Tokyo, but Osaka is simply a more comfortable place to live. Please take a JR train(Ltd. Exp. KUROSHIO) to the south of Wakayama, preferably to Nachi-Katsuura or thereabouts. I am sure you will experience the advantages of Osaka's location.
I agree, there’s not as many ‘tourist attractions’ as maybe other cities, and maybe that’s why it’s not at the top of everyone’s list. But yes being in the centre of the amazing Kansai region is such a benefit!! Wakayama is on my list, it looks so beautiful 😍
Damm !! i wish i knew this 2 day,s ago is was there yesterday now i am at home again. The Castle is very crowed with waiting time of 60 minute just like eifeltower in Paris. main city is realy boring i went there we had a Hearton Hotel
Thank you for another great Osaka video! Just one correction, the building you pointed out in Nakanoshima is a "Public Hall" where people can hold events, and the City Hall is a different building right along Midousuji. I'm looking forward to more videos!
Muchas gracias! Thank you for sharing! Im planning my second trip to japan and you are really kind in helping us to find out about places and hotels and all fun things in japan! gracias!
To tell the truth, I had been an Osaka fan ever since one of my Japan tour acquaintances hijacked my wife & I for a few days in Osaka. She opened my eyes and told me, there is a lot to see in Osaka. On the other hand, I also once ran into a student living in Osaka, who explained to me that Osaka is mostly concrete, with very little greenery. Last year we visited Osaka (Umeda) again and I was stunned as to how much more developed it had become. We got lost (although we had visited Umeda several times before). I just gave up on Umeda and we spent most of our time in Namba. Umeda has so many levels (including an extensive underground). Just finding the ground level street is challenging for me. My friend visited Umeda last year and had no problem, however, so it could just be me (I've been to Osaka at least 5 times, each time for a week or so). Check Nakamoshima when the roses are in bloom. It is beautiful.
While Tokyo is famous for fine dining and intl cuisine, Osaka is more famous for its variety of street food.Less commonly known street foods would be: Modanyaki (okonomiyaki with yakisoba), niku man and sho rong bo from Horai 551, and Oshio's (fried rice and gyoza).
I live here for 2 years and I was surprised there was not a single complete guide through the Osaka on RUclips. Till now, great job, love Osaka and all the places you recommended. My only +1 to the list would be Tsuruhashi - the Korean town :)
Almost every Sakura cherry blossoms season I normally starting walking from JR Sakuranomiya station JR Osaka loop line or when I go to Osaka caste park, I take a bus from Bus terminal around JR Osaka station and get off bus at Osaka jo ohtemon mae bus stop in front of Osaka Prefectural government building and west of Osaka castle park. of course it depends on where ye stay. cheers
Thank you for your recommendations on Osaka. It's not definitely easy to summarize them for twenty minutes. You may have also introduced some side streets of Tenjin-Bashi Str. or Doton-Bori Str. Anyway, please explore and find out your favorites in Osaka!
What they mean when they say "not much to see", is tourist traps and the party area. Osaka is a smaller(not small), way chiller Tokyo. A lot of tourist don't really see Japan, they go to Tokyo and just do lots of touristy stuff, party in Roppongi/Shibuya/ Shinjuku.
Ahh, someone who understands what I am looking for in a travel vlog. M BTW Anywhere with a magic not on the menu is my idea of home. Deep in a cold alleyway, sitting on a milk crate, graffiti roaring like thunder. A magic is the Melbourne equivalent to the madeleines.
Glad you enjoyed it! Oh that’s a good question - there’s a yakiniku joint called Tajimaya that serves the most delicious wagyu I’ve ever had with wasabi 🤤 I don’t know if it classifies as a ‘local eatery’ though haha
Thank you for the nice video!! It made me want to visit Osaka, especially for the coffee shops! (Since サニーさん from Melbourne says so, it must be true.) I’m really missing Australian coffee!🇦🇺 Also, among well-known cities, I really think there's not much to do in Nagoya lol, I reckon the nightlife is about it😂 But it’s a lovely city, so definitely visit it sometime😊
@@Sunny_in_Japan Nagoya Castle is probably the most famous, with its iconic golden shachihoko (mythical carp) on the roof. There's also a small shopping area nearby! Another popular attraction is Higashiyama Zoo's famous "handsome gorilla," Shabani 🦍 Plus, the newly opened Ghibli Park has quickly become a must-visit spot. While these are well-known tourist destinations, what I'd really recommend is the food. You should try hitsumabushi (Nagoya's unique style of grilled eel on rice), tebasaki (fried chicken wings), miso katsu (pork cutlet with miso sauce), and miso nikomi udon (noodles in a miso-based broth). Miso-based dishes are a specialty here!
Sakae is always buzzing with activity People enjoy the nightlife there in all sorts of ways. I really racked my brain for this one haha😂 You should definitely check it out! Thank you for asking me!! I always enjoy your videos, thank you😊
Very good review, but your video says the best area to stay in Namba not Umeda. Btw, there are too many review video on similar destination on RUclips. Videos about destination other than Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, Kanazawa etc would be super useful for many returning tourist, especially those who regularly visit Japan for business
Wow! I enjoyed your video. My husband and I are visiting the 1st time late January. Although he is half Japanese, it has been 50 + years since he visited. We are planning to stay in Osaka for a few days after SHINJUKU ( that’s where his mom is from), then to Kyoto. In between, we are planning to go to Hanover and experience an onsen and Mt Fuji. Love to go to most places you recommended but is 4 days enough?
Hi there! I’m so glad you found the video useful 😊 A few of the options are seasonal and for a first time trip, my top picks would be Umeda and Downtown (Namba, Shinsaibashi area). Even with a day trip to USJ you might be able to squeeze in cafe or izakaya hopping at the neighbourhoods I mentioned. It might be possible I would recommend not rushing to squeeze everything in to one trip. If you fall in love with Osaka like I did, you’ll be back 😉
Appreciate the video! Ive been looking into what the hrll to do in Osaka apart from Umeda Building and Universal. Not sure how much itll help when im there but its saved for later regardless. Thank you

40k steps... wow! I am going to Japan soon, and I am walking an hour every day to prepare my body for thousands of steps. I don't know if it will make any difference, but I am trying 😆😆😆

It sounds like you’ve explored more than me - do you have any favourite areas?
Thanks so much for the recommendations! 🙏
Can we get a full video on the Honmachi and Shinsaibashi area
I like how you mentioned Umeda and Kitahama district in the video, since many people just visit Dotonbori or Tsutenkaku because media only shows that part of Osaka and they don’t really know that Osaka has CBD as urban and populated as Tokyo.
Definitely feel like so many areas of Osaka deserve as much love as Dotonbori and Shinsekai!
Lovely!! Love this vdo. Thank you so much Sunny.
Really like the way that the vdo allowed me to hear the sound of the place and can feel the atmosphere.
Watching but feel like I am at the place in the vdo.
I always wait for your vdo.
I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope you find it useful for a future trip to Japan 😊
Orange St.
Damm !! i wish i knew this 2 day,s ago is was there yesterday now i am at home again.
Whoops thank you for the correction! 😬 didn’t realise they were two different entities
Muchas gracias! Thank you for sharing! Im planning my second trip to japan and you are really kind in helping us to find out about places and hotels and all fun things in japan! gracias!
I’m so glad it was useful 😊
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the video 😊
Eating my way through Tsuruhashi is another video I’m dying to make one day 🤤
great video first time here in the chanel and i made sub
Thank you so much!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Im glad you liked it!
Thank you for the recommendations, I will have to make another videos for all the great shopping arcades and famous streets!
Hi guys i'm from UK and i travelled to japan to face ZOO now i'm getting ready to face the osaka aquarium.
This is so helpful. Thank you!
So glad to hear! 😊
M
BTW Anywhere with a magic not on the menu is my idea of home.
@@Sunny_in_Japan Drool!
I love this channel! Thank u! Fyi.
Thank you for the nice video!!
It made me want to visit Osaka, especially for the coffee shops! (Since サニーさん from Melbourne says so, it must be true.) I’m really missing Australian coffee!🇦🇺
Also, among well-known cities, I really think there's not much to do in Nagoya lol, I reckon the nightlife is about it😂
But it’s a lovely city, so definitely visit it sometime😊
Yes I am a coffee guru 🤓
I’ve never been to Nagoya but I want you to!
Any places you recommend? Nightlife, cafe or otherwise?
@@Sunny_in_Japan
Nagoya Castle is probably the most famous, with its iconic golden shachihoko (mythical carp) on the roof. There's also a small shopping area nearby!
Another popular attraction is Higashiyama Zoo's famous "handsome gorilla," Shabani 🦍
Plus, the newly opened Ghibli Park has quickly become a must-visit spot.
Sakae is always buzzing with activity
People enjoy the nightlife there in all sorts of ways. I really racked my brain for this one haha😂
You should definitely check it out!
Thank you for asking me!!
I always enjoy your videos, thank you😊
Amazing thank you so much! 🙏 I’ll definitely be using this list as notes when I get a chance to go ✍️
Very good review, but your video says the best area to stay in Namba not Umeda. Btw, there are too many review video on similar destination on RUclips. Videos about destination other than Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, Kanazawa etc would be super useful for many returning tourist, especially those who regularly visit Japan for business
Point of correction... the current Tsutenkaku Tower was built in the 1950s. The original 1912 structure was destroyed during WW2.
Wonderful video😊
Hi there! I’m so glad you found the video useful 😊
A few of the options are seasonal and for a first time trip, my top picks would be Umeda and Downtown (Namba, Shinsaibashi area).
Thank you
Thanks for your comment!
I hope it helps make your Osaka trip enjoyable 😊
Hello. Do you have any recommendations for kissaten in Osaka? I've never tried one before and am looking for a cool old school experience
People saying that Osaka or anywhere in Japan or Asia for that matter is "dangerous" would be absolutely crying like a baby in the ghettos of Chicago or Philly.
40k steps... wow! I am going to Japan soon, and I am walking an hour every day to prepare my body for thousands of steps. I don't know if it will make any difference, but I am trying 😆😆😆
It will make a difference!
But you’ll also be eating heaps of yummy food while you’re walking around to fuel you 😋
Osaka dangerous at night 😆 wow thats a first time i've heard that. Sure the slums in Osaka, but where isnt the slums dangerous at night 😅
Tenma is deffinitly on my to do list this trip to Osaka, and a local really wanna show me around Nishinari.
Such an amazing city that i keep coming back to.
