Tennis Evolution - Online Tennis Lessons Ok. That was harder than I thought it would be. I must be more off balance on my FH than I realized. But after a bit I found that I saw the ball more clearly and I was able to easily rip the ball down the line. I was still having some issues with the open stance holding it, because of the momentum I was generating

Great video. If you hit the ball crosscourt, you do not need to get back to the middle, only to the place you show in his video because the likely return will also be crosscourt back to you.

It helps me more 10 min video of you than 2h lesson!! What about the two hands backhand? I think the balance it's identical to the forehand if I'm not too far from the ball but what does it change when I hit the ball running? Thank you for your passion!

If you watch Federer in slow motion, you see that both his eyes and head stay down even after he's followed through. It's incredible. It's as if, or really is that, he is not looking where he is hitting. Complete balance/stability

Love this, Jeff. Wide base - anchored at the root - through the court/ground - prepared for next move - with timing + relaxation. For me - in a very simplistic expression - it just feeeels good. The feeling of balance - and then on my good days - timing - nothing like it.
I cant help but think of the slow motion vids of Federer's FH. His head is so still - relaxed - focused with directed energy - it stays on the ball even after the ball has left his racquet. Or Nadal - in his feet and movement - with a wide balanced focused base.
I'm not sure it's a teaching tool, but when my accuracy goes whack I will go back to ball striking 101 - watch the ball - and I relax my upper body (I do a lot of meditation for many yrs so not hard for me) and just keep my focus on the ball a split second longer. It works for me. And in my movements - unless I'm tiring - I like to think of Rafa and his fantastic powerful balance in his movement.
I want to feel it in my body from the feet on up. Again - it feels good - gets the blood flowing - energy up - until I collapse as I'm still working on getting in better shape. Haha!

I think you have to be careful here in a universal stance. Applying the goal of how to recover on balance I see as different than the balance involved in setting up to hit the ball. In the set up I believe you find the hip is hinged rather than in the horse square. The hinge allows the player to place more weight on rear leg or planted leg for the hit and allows a better chain of power reaction allowing the hips to slightly lead the shoulders as the stroke initiates toward ball strike.

To be specific, the rear leg/foot shouldn't recover until after full extension of the arm. The rear leg/foot may even move in the opposite direction, in the forward swing (especially if the feet are off the ground at contact). Recovering too early will totally destroy elastic energy. Tapping the rear foot in the follow through is a great way to teach the body to move properly.

Awesome lesson Jeff! I was wondering if you have ever dealt with this strange problem on the forehand? A player who starts the swing with a bent arm, but then straightens it through the swing until it becomes completely extended at contact.(exactly like a baseball or golf swing). I believe it may be the reason for my inconsistency, because the rest of my swing is textbook. Do you know of a way to fix it? I've done a million shadow swings, but I go right back as soon as I add the ball. I could sure use your help, it's ruining my fun on court.
