    I would like to inform you that FALCAM is a separate company from Ulanzi. They have partnered on some elements like the tripod and backpack clip, but Ulanzi is mainly a reseller for FALCAM. FALCAM makes F38, F50, and F22 quick release systems. FALCAM is spelled in all caps, btw, i’m not just yelling their name.

    Ulanzi make a camera bracket that has peak design in one direction and F38 (Ulanzi) the other. This means you can use the PD camera clip on your bag, and Ulanzi head on your tripod. This is my favourite setup. I also use the Ulanzi camera brackets on my Ulanzi video lights, so they fit on my tripods as well.

    Falcam/Ulanzi also makes a f38 plate that fits the peak design clip. Instead of being a square like the normal f38 plate, one dimension is slightly wider so it will fit securely in pd and a few other mounts like older Ulanzi heads.

    • @SneakyCaleb
      @SneakyCaleb 9 месяцев назад

      Wait link me please ?! So it works with my pd clips but also the ulanzi stuff? Does it work with the new f38 head? That’s the issue I find. I use the old ulanzi zero y head because it works with PD arca Swiss plates.

    • @halifaxzapp
      @halifaxzapp 9 месяцев назад

      @@SneakyCaleb yeah. if you search 'falcam f38 pd' it comes right up. It is a little tricky to use as one direction fits and the other doesn't. But each direction is labeled as 'F38' or 'FOR PD Capture V3' in white print on each respective side. The f38 direction is slightly more narrow (like half a millimeter) and will not lock in that direction on the pd clip. If you are still curious I could do a video.

    • @ThatGuyOverThereWeird

    • @halifaxzapp
      @halifaxzapp 9 месяцев назад

      Ah. yeah I'm looking at an image of the clutch strap now. The f38/pd plate should still work with that setup actually. There are still the holes and notches in the corners to allow a lanyard to be strung through without getting in the way when the plate is inserted. @@SneakyCaleb

    I used to think that Arca-swiss is the best "universal" system and it still kind of is, but I got the F38 plates too and it is at least also Arca-swiss compatible. The quick release on the F38 is great (when it works, as you nicely demonstrated ;), but companies always try to get one up over the competition, that's why they're not cooperating... In any case, you can as you said transform almost any tripod or gimbal into accepting F38, by replacing the head (if it allows) or by clamping the bottom quick release plate (which is also Arca-swiss compatible - one tip: if it still wiggles after clamping it down, try some tape around the edges and then clamp it... the tape makes up for the slack and now it's rock solid on my mini tripod).

    I think the part of the video where you try to put your camera on a tripod nicely demonstrates the problems I've been facing using the smaller version, F22, of this Falcam quick release. If you're not perfectly aligned with the system, it will not slide in, then the plate will quite quickly unscrew itself, and then the whole purpose is ruined as nothing works anymore. I thought that might be because the F22 is too small, and that problem could be solved using F38 larger plates, but I am not quite sure this will solve my problem. I am also considering buying a PGY-Tech quick release, which is attached by clipping the plate in instead of sliding, which might be easier to get in and out. What's your opinion?

They sell another version of the plate with an anti-twist fitting and that works much better. Can you get two (1/4" and 3/8") screws through to the bottom of the camera? Otherwise this will probably come loose mighty quickly, esp. f. run&gun situations.

    I love and buy Ulanzi products, but I'm so integrated into the Manfrotto Pl200 plate system with tripods and monopod, suction cup mounts for windshields. But for on the go, handheld stuff It's Peak designs products. Their dual plate they offer will do Manfrotto Pl200 and Arca on the same plate mount, which can be pulled off my tripod and snaps into the capture clip on my backpack. And Peak design has a gopro mount that also snaps into the Capture clip, It's a never ending rabbit hole it seems as my 2 cameras also have cages which use Arca mounts on the cage bottoms, but I don't use the Arca system.

    The quality of that mount for the backpack strap seems horrible vs. Peak Designs' mount. I've had theirs since the first one came out around 2013. Still as good as new.

    This looks like it would be compatible with similar products from Peak Design. I use a PD Capture clip on my main camera, and brought a compatible mounting plate from the top of my tripod for about £10. Fairly cheap Manfrotto tripod with a slightly dumb round mounting lug, that now screws into the bottom of the Arca-Swiss compatible plate rather than the camera.

    I have the f38 quick clip on my large 150-600mm tripod foot and the peak design clip on my camera ... both clip into the f38 quick release thing. Buuuuut I found that the peal design clip fits way better and no rattle even tho the f38 rattles a bit in its holder I haven't had any failures I should mention. But I have both so I use the f38 quick release thing on my peak design. Quick release dangles things to connect to my peak design strap

    If you replace the coldshoe on the ulanzi MT-46 mini tripod with a camera base, you can clip it too to the backpack :)

    The genius of the f22 bracket is that it's Arcaswiss!
    I tried 3 different cages and multiple L brackets for my R7. By far the best and the one I settled with was the Ulanzi half cage. Never leaves my camera.
    To start with, the ulanzi was the only one that actually improved pinky grip without getting in the way of the battery door. Even the smallrig did next to nothing to improve grip.
    I love how the Arca swiss bottom on the Ulanzi is squared, it means you can put it any angle you want. Most cages only have arca swiss going parallel to the camera and aren't easy to center, they can be a nightmare to mount easily on some tripod heads or gimbals. With the Ulanzi system I just have a long Arcaswiss plate WITH one of their f22 quick release hubs, and a long manfrotto plate quick an f22 quick release. That way I can easily mount it on any gimbal, photo wildlife gimbal type or video motorized gimbal and be balanced.
    It also doubles as an L bracket, something the vast majority of the other cages can't do, meaning you can set your camera in portrait on the tripod. It's pretty baffling to me how cage designers never figured out that we don't wanna gave to choose between an L bracket and a cage when a cage should just do both!! It's ridiculous!
    I do prefer having a cotton carrier harness when I'm carrying my big telephotos than a backpack strap clip obviously. With my bigger lenses like 70-200 2.8, 600 zoom and 500 F4 prime, the cotton carrier hubs are directly on the Arca swiss foot. But with my other lenses, like rf100-400 and 24-105 F4, they're just heavy enough to not be really usable on a backpack strap, but light enough that a cotton carrier hub on the bottom of the camera is fine. That way I can use my Cotton Carrier G3 and G2 with all my stuff. The hub design is by far the best way to pull in and out your camera quickly and securely.
    Except, I needed to unscrew the hub everytime I wanted to mount the camera on a tripod or monopod. That's kind of the problem with those harnesses, having those proprietary hubs on everything including at the bottom of your camera, and when a hub is on the camera, you can't use the Arca swiss bottom anymore.
    What I ended doing is actually screw one of the cotton carrier hubs into a Ulanzi quick release plate. That way, if I need to use my harness, I just need to slide in the hub at the bottom of the half cage. The quick release makes it very secure, they are super tight and won't unlock accidentally. Those quick release plates are so well made!
    In short, I 100% agree, as someone who's also tried a ton of stuff, Ulanzi makes killer designs that are some of the best out there, beating smallrig, PD and cotton carrier in many ways. Beating smallrig in cage design is quite a feat.
    The genius part of their designs is also how they can seamlessly be integrated with other companies' designs and the universal Arca swiss mounts. Whereas, there's usually no way to integrate smallrig stuff with cotton carrier stuff, for example.
    I'm sure their backpack clips must be great for the smaller lenses if you're a vlogger or something.
    Glad we can agree that shoulder straps are just a bad design overall in many ways. I used a PD slide for a long time, but as soon as I tried a cotton carrier harness, I never touched the slide strap again. And since I found Ulanzi's cages and quick releases systems that pair so well with them, I'm pretty much completely covered in any situations!
    Matching the build quality of the big guys like cotton carrier, smallrig and Peak design is already a feat. But actually beating them in product design is extremely impressive to me! AND, their pr8ces are often cheaper! Win-win-win for us as customers.
    Btw if I was you and needed a backpack strap solution for lighter lenses (I don't have any lightweight lenses lol), what I would do is just get a cotton carrier receiver that goes on a backpack strap, and use the CC hub+f22 quick release combo on that. Pretty sure I still prefer cotton carrier hubs to a direct f22 quick release. Cotton carrier hubs are too much of a joy to use and I've became spoiled by them. Just slides in and out, no need for locks and buttons. But I guess you wouldn't like to have the bulk of a half cage, I get that, for you it's probably overkill.
    I happen to use much heavier lenses, tripods, monopods and video gimbals, but I wanted to add in, their systems work fantastic for that use case as well!
    But I'm sure your way of doing it is more than fine and probably already better than stuff like the PD backpack strap! My lenses are too heavy anyway and I don't want mingled backpack straps.
    In short, well said and I agree, go Ulanzi! Cheers!
