I got the '09 Limited loaded with 3.5 L Duratec rated 263 horses, currently 147,000 miles and drives like a dream. The only thing wrong is the drier's seat heater stopped working. Like all cars, the secret to longevity is maintenance. Ford is not the best but is still very good and ubiquitous enough to learn from other people's mistakes. Recently I got a '15 Taurus, also top of the line with only 25k miles. I feel like I'm in heaven.

Yeah lol. The impala had a recall because the rear tires wear prematurely because of a defect in rear suspension. The impala will have ABS issues, traction control issues, airbag problems, electrical gremlins in general. Only positive I noticed is the mpg. Got 30 highway with a 09 impala. Quite impressive for a 3.5 v6. Had the opportunity to drive a rental car 2018 Chevy impala 1,000 miles round trip with the 3.6 VVT. Had get up and oomph, fuel economy and performance somewhat like a turbocharged engine. You won't believe this. But I got 34 mpg. I looked at the computer and my calculator. If that's not a deal breaker then I don't know what is Let me tell ya, Chevy is almost up there within Ford's terms of interior ergonomics and comfort. Better than Ford now in MPG on the highway at least with that new Impala.

I feel for owners in the comment section who, admittedly, have all gotten good deals on used variants of this model. And to be sure, those with the money to keep them going may well be happy. But history has been quite unkind to this generation Taurus, and the reason for those good deals is because of its reliability: they simply will not make it through the 2020s without a LOT of repairs, regardless of maintenance

The main thing they need is the water pump which is expensive due to being chain driven but otherwise, they are pretty well made. You can go with much worse.
