    I will be the first to admit that the current sculpts sold as minis by GW are arguably the best they've ever done, but there is something about the old 80s/90s stuff that has been lost over time, and that is character. They just ooze so much character that the modern stuff is almost sterile in comparison. Maybe im just too old and nostalgic

    • @scoticvsgossage9378
      @scoticvsgossage9378 6 месяцев назад +10

      Nah, I feel the same way about the 90s and 80s models

    • @CocoHutzpah
      @CocoHutzpah 6 месяцев назад +16

      I agree, but a lot of the 80s/90s Fantasy minis are new to me. I think it is more than just nostalgia, as I have none.

    • @username12120
      @username12120 6 месяцев назад +22

      The new sculpts are just TOO perfect. Whereas the traditional sculpts of the 80s, 90s, and early 00s still have that imperfect hand sculpted charm to them. The technical proficiency and technology of today is phenomenal, but it can produce some sterile looking models.

    • @foldionepapyrus3441
      @foldionepapyrus3441 6 месяцев назад +11

      No I agree, not only are the new sculpts often excessively detailed with fiddly bits of very limited value to the model and then everything ends up near perfect if not entirely perfect in symmetry and repeating shape across models - which just makes them less 'real'. Then there is the subject matter - some time in the 2000's maybe into 2010's all the whimsy and fun details go away in the quest for every more dull, repetitive legions. No halfling hotpot etc.

    • @scoticvsgossage9378
      @scoticvsgossage9378 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@foldionepapyrus3441 The keys on the new Bretonnian duke come to mind. Nearly bent mine irreparably when I was putting together the damn Pegasus.
      I prefer 90s-80s sculpts because they have a few details here and there, but are a dream to paint once you get going.

    • @Del_S
      @Del_S 6 месяцев назад +3

      They're perfect for it. Especially given that Colonel Schaeffer worked with the Inquisition, so they could easily have been made Imperial Agents available to work with any Imperial force (and, y'know, sell more minis). Shame that's probably not on the cards though.

    • @rrwholloway
      @rrwholloway 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Del_S old Games Workshop would have had articles on how to integrate them into Kill Team. Going back through old Citadel Journal and White Dwarf magazines it’s remarkable how soulless GW now is and how little they encourage creativity from the hobby.

    My top 5:
    - Original 'Necron Raiders', especially the Immortals.
    - Last Chancers
    - Original Tanith metal guardsmen
    - The original "unarmoured" Custodes
    - Gotrek and Felix (probably their 2nd versions)
    I have almost all of the above anyway. But they go for so much for newer people, it'd be nice to screw over the scalpers.

    Imagine that, actual paying people want the old game back, not this AoS stuff. Even the computer games use the old models and old style formations. Maybe they are starting to see the error in their ways of making Warhammer Fantasy and 40k for the lowest common denominator instead of keeping their most successful rules sets for OVER 25 YEARS.
    Instead they try to make it more "accessible" by adding twenty-five tons of bleh rules and "Stategems" that no one will ever remember. Good job GW, over-correct by not only making a new game that alienates old players, but is so stupid and complex that new players need 4-5 books to play their own army. All the while referencing online errata.

    Who cares about the packaging a reprint would come in? The bit you want is to have that nostalgic fun mini, not a pile of faux-retro packaging to dump into your pile of shame!
    Edit: Plus if they are going to bring the old world back just bring back the entire lot officially - why no Dark Elves etc. I can accept no boxed starter kits that offer better value for this more niche product (especially as the second hand market and our existing collections mean most of us probably don't want a starter kit anyway). But just reissuing the old mini's is almost free of cost to them, especially if the moulds are still good...

    Those are all nice choices. GW has released some very charming models in their days. My top 10 is probably all made up of the late 80's Chaos champions. I pick some up here and there every now and then and they're still some of the most delightful things that the company has ever made.
    Not that I would complain about some 80's Greater Daemons, though. I have one original Lord of Change and would happily take more. The pterodactyl head is fun but the twin head and the skeletal heads have their points too.

    Another great video! The warhammer quest line had some fantastic sculpts.

    I fully expected to disagree with everything you were wishlisting, but I have to admit that I had forgotten about the freelance knight. As a fan of Don Quixote de la Mancha, I have always loved this mini and have forgotten about it for nearly 20 years until now. I realized that I need it back in my collection.

    Man, I never quite appreciated how tall the Plague Tower actually was. Looks like it got right up there with the Warlord titan in some of those shots, so a modern, 40k scale one would have to be absolutely enormous.
