It might have been better to test with clear weather to compare framerates. I also updated just prior to Christmas and am happy with the results. The only downside (if there is one) is getting used to the interface changes but like everything, in time you get used to it. All the best for the year ahead Mark.

I updated to Win 11 a few months ago and have had no issues. Wow. You have an RTX 4090! I'd guess that cost just as much as all the rest of the components on the PC. It's like buying 2 PC's.

My days of upgrading operating systems are long past me. I used to love doing that stuff but just got tired of all the issues that always popped up. My sim rig is still on Windows 10 and will stay on it. I'll move to WIndows if/when I get a new system (no plans).

WARNING! I upgraded to Win 11 and started getting random black screens which forced me to do a hard reboot. They happened on average every day. It is maybe related to multiple monitor issues but I could not rectify the problem. So I was forced to uninstall Win 11 and reinstall Win 10. Now my system is stable again. It will be a LONG time till I upgrade.

@SimHanger Flight Simulation I have no idea if the multi monitors were the cause of the random crashes. All I knew was that for me Win 11 was an unstable mess.

    • @Buddy308

Stability is exactly what concerns me, NOT FPS, and it's why I have not upgraded to Win 11 yet. So far, I'm seeing too many reports (like this one by 14723ian) to make me comfortable trying the upgrade.

I run 2 monitors no problem with windows 11 but I understand your frustration. Computers can be so finicky. Its probably one little setting buried in your system that would take months to hunt down. looks like windows 10 is your solution. Again I have no problems with windows 11 but there is not much difference anyway. Fly on my friend!

Had a discussion with a colleague who I have discovered has a degree in computer science and is very technical with computer hardware and he thinks my issues are maybe down to me UPGRADING to Win 11 and not doing a fresh install. Not sure if I have the patients to try his theory out. Should I do a fresh install of Win 11....not an upgrade?

As always, thanks Mark for your informative video.
I just upgraded to Win11. Flying the PMDG 737-700, it is very smooth indeed with near-identical FPS. The most noticeable improvements for me are much improved (significantly crisper) visuals, especially the night lit roads/cities/airports and the night sky. The stars are sharper and dramatically less blotchy (on Win10 the stars and night-lit airports, roads, cities are all more blotchy).
Even the aircraft's lights are much improved in sharpness, colour and brightness. I actually did a "double take," asking myself "Could this be the ubiquitous 'placebo effect' playing tricks on me?"
Well, to answer that question, I went back to my saved screenshots and videos over the same routes, at the same time & season with similar weather - using the same exact settings (mostly ultra).
For your info, I'm using an i9 10900K at stock speed, RTX 3080ti, 32Gb DDR4/3200 RAM. FS2020 is on an M.2 nvme 2Tb SSD and all my addons are on a separate, standard 2Tb nvme SSD. No overclocking here.
The Win11 verdict is that my eyes didn't deceive me!!
Visuals are, without doubt, significantly sharper under Win 11 with near identical FPS and smoothness.
I can't speak for VR as I haven't taken that plunge yet. But at 4K, 2D, I couldn't be happier.

I built a new PC and am running the 12th gen intel series which strongly recommends using Windows11 for the improved thread director. I set it up initially with Windows10 but soon ran into gaming issues that were remedied with the Windows11 upgrade, so I reluctantly reformatted with 11.
I much prefer Windows10 but MSFS runs just as good on both from what I could tell. My issues with parked e-cores under Win10 were totally solved running Win11, so anyone with a 12th gen or higher intel should upgrade for sure.

Versions back i use to be on the Microsoft Beta test team till they stopped dealing with our recommend thoughts and did what they wanted, many of us left. Now with windows 11 they have started to introduce linux based work pages or desktops sadly on one single page, but still it's a start. I decided to build a new rig 12 i-9 class so i could try 11. I am a hard core user of FSX box and now steam SE version. With windows 10 nothing but on going issues with the compatibility mode, fsx not responding reported by Windows task manager as well as random issues with C. Those issues are all gone with the upgrade to 11 as well as 2020 is much smoother also. I was like other people waiting to move from 7 to 10 due to security and other issues however for me 11 was worth the move. I think there trying to do better with this one.

EDIT; upgraded to win11 today and found a lot of problems with my i9 9900k/rtx3090/32Gb3000 ram PC. I couldn't even enable my Windows Defender Firewall, lol! Tried a bunch of troubleshooting that finally lead me to needing to change a dozen or more registry keys and/or do a full clean win11 install. I gave up and rolled back to win 10, without any problems. Lesson learnt; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm getting a new PC next week (i9 13900k/rtx4090/32Gb 5200ram) that will come loaded with win11 so this might work better since it will be a clean install. Fingers and toes crossed! Cheers.

While there were a few win11 issues (I came pretty close to doing a clean win10 reinstall, lol!) everything, including PCVR with msfs using my Q2, QPro, and OG Vive Pro (VP1) seems to be working well now. I'd guestimate I'm getting at least a 50% improvement compared to my older rtx3090 rig, so I'm pretty happy. Cheers.

Now MS / Asobo still need to do the same but they are working on it with DX12 but it's taking them pretty long because they still only really use 4 cores and I have 12 :-)

I’ve been on Windows 11 for a while now. The only issue I have is Microsoft forcing users to create a Microsoft account to use the OS. There is an easy workaround to bypass this annoying “requirement”. I don’t want a Microsoft account. Other than the Microsoft account issue and the ridiculous TPM requirement which prevents the use of Windows 11 on older hardware, Windows 11 is a nice OS that is very stable. Windows 10 is EOL in 2025.

    • @SimHangerFS

The MS account isn’t really an issue….note you need a MS account to run and install MSFS anyway. Perhaps it shouldn’t be that way, but that is todays reality.

I'd like to see benchmarks for someone with an older card which isn't compatible with the latest DLSS version. I'll see if I can find one, but that said I'm in no hurry to move to 11. I bought a full Windows 10 Pro licence with the PC I bought just shy of two years ago and it's running fine. Plus the upgrade advisor says my system isn't compatible. I know it's some security feature that isn't switched on in my BIOS but I really don't like that 11 is forcing you to use a Microsoft account, so I'm going to avoid it for as long as possible.

Your missing the bigger issue here.. That is microsux changed the privacy and data protocol in the settings in Windows 11. Basically means you cannot untick certain data collection. Shitty Windows 11 nothing more than data mining ones info to sell to advertising companies etc etc.. That alone one should delay upgrade as long as possible.

  • @tgmjrtgmjr8221
    @tgmjrtgmjr8221 Год назад

4090 and ddr4 is not the best setup, you are not getting the best out of the 4090 using ddr4, you certainly should have ddr5 and RAM at least that can gain 4000 mhz; higher can be achieved with a proper setup using ddr5 very successfully.
Also, not sure why you are using Bing, Google is by far with their satellites much better in detail, understanding at FL340 you are not seeing detail, but with a 4090, who cares, you are only using on average 12GB in the video of the GPU on a 24GB card, obviously MSFS is single thread dependent, everyone knows this.
Also, you get better quality frames and higher with DLSS3 on, gives lower latency and higher FPS with better quality, maybe not quite as high as TAA on v. DLSS3, but with beta of DX12 version, it will get better.
DX11 and TAA On gives better results on lower latency and higher FPS than what you are using. That's what the numerous other videos depict, and I concur with my results.
