I get tears in my eyes whenever I hear or see this introduction to this iconic show! I have beautiful memories of my beloved Mom sitting me in front of the TV with a pad and some crayons while I watched the incredibly talented Jon Gnagy create a picture while taking the time to explain everything in his amazing step-by-step style. My Mom knew I was mesmerized and was happy that I was happy! Beautiful times!

(Jan 2020) - I never realized how strongly influential Jon's TV lessons would be. I work as a cartoonist and caricaturist now since 1989. We need more simple, easy to understand, guiding programs like Gnagy's was.

Thank you to Exprex for submitting these. A real joy. I spoke (through email) with his daughter not long ago and she is thrilled that so many are discovering her father's contribution to art instruction.

When I was a kid, about 9 years old, I got a Jon Gnagy drawing kit for Xmas. This would have been around 1971 when Gnagy was no longer on TV, but I guess they were still selling stuff with his name on it. I didn't even know who he was, except they had his picture on the box in a TV screen, so I guessed he must have done art on TV, but until I saw this, I had never actually seen any part of any of his shows.

I remember this show well when I was a young kid in the 1950s and his ability to create pictures on a blank sheet of paper inspired me to try and learn to draw.

Thank you Mr. Seymour. My brothers and I always watched this program and we all became competent artist because of Mr. Gnagy's simple approach. It made it fun and enjoyable. One of us even made a career as a professional artist. We didn't have color TV when we were young so charcoal and conti were natural mediums to use. It's still one of my favorite techniques. Needless to say we are all over 60 years of age.

Jon Gnagy was Bob Ross, before Bob Ross was Bob Ross.

A sponsor and a commercial would be meaningless without people who liked him.

I watched this as a kid, now he looks like a cool version of Sandy Becker !

I would think it would have something to do with a sponsor and upcoming commercial.
