- Pouring rain so hard with no overpass or open boxcar for rainy weather protection until I later found a open plug door boxcar to seek shelter in but by then time I located it until the rain stopped, go figure! haha!

Wow great video Mark. Might be the best one in a long time. Rube has some awesome tats. Some great art work took time putting them on and they are expensive. Trucking on one side rails on the other. Sorry you got caught in the rain time for a new tarp. Reminds me of our motorcycle trip to Pennsylvania last year with my nephews. He had a old tent and the second day it was calling for heavy rain. So we go to the track early put up the tent. The rain came and the old tent had pin holes in it. So much for being dry. I was smart brought my golf umbrella and a fold up chair that is waterproof. I stayed dry they both was soaked plus it was cold. Nothing worse than being cold and wet. Take care and hold up on riding until it gets warmer. You surely don't want to get the flu

FTRA got a bad rap because of Sidetrack or the boxcar killer, man Shoestring I know you had to have sidestepped this bad dude a time or two. There is noway ole railriders could have avoided Sidetrack, if you did, you either didn't catch a wink or learned to sleep with one eye open. Just glad you made it through that ere, cuz many good railriders senselessly met their end with this ruthless killer. It is only time a UC rode the rails to get inside Sidetracks head and eventually took him down before he waylaying another rider. Cheers Hobo Shoestring, stay safe Mark!

Not long after sidetrack, it didn't get a huge media fan fair, but many FTRA's top dogs got sacked with RICO and I was a bit taken back w/Mark's tatt chattin about it here. The ole timers don't ride the rails anymore because of the sacking and lock ups. SS gets around cuz most the ole bullz are retired now. Cheerz fren (ck out SS's gift sms :o)!!

I’ve been following your videos for several years now, my grandsons watch you too. Your videos are interesting to watch and rated G, with no profanity, until this video. I was really disappointed to hear you use a vulgar term referencing someone, it was a real shocker to hear it coming from you, in fact I was so shocked I had to watch it twice to be sure I heard it right. My Grandkids don’t watch ‘R’ rated programs.
Anyway, I am glad that you are feeling better and back riding.

Sucks im just now finding out about this guy one day after his passing. He was a local to me!! I could have helped him being a local to Kingsport myself. I knew right where he was at on that hill by domtar. Crazy that all this time i missed out on knowing him. I really like his channel so far

Rube Clayton sure is a good ole friend Shoestring. I got a kick out of him. Being from Kentucky myself, I love to hear country boys talk and their sweet hearts. I love listening to interesting people tell stories about their lives, which is why I got hooked on Shoestring’s videos to begin with, and I wish I could be a fly on the wall when he and Rube get together and reminisce.

Shoestring is the true GODFATHER of hoboing. I ride but nowhere near shoestring. He knows more about yards and catchouts than any other "rider" I know. I give you a lot of credit for braving the elements to make these riding videos. I did 43 years in railroad service conducting and braking in all kinds of weather. Been wet, cold, hot, etc but I enjoyed it never the less. You take care, glad that you're feeling better.

Thank you to Shoestring and Rube for this video! What a couple of amazing guys. Makes me think of my Papaw, who retired from driving a truck and was obsessed with trains. He hung out down at "the railroad" every day, just talking with workers and watching the trains come and go. He was one of a kind; the perfect grandfather, and I miss him every day. He was known as "Red Dog", and if you were lucky enough to have met him you'd never forget him. He would have loved this channel.

I'm 46. Dipped since high-school. Lost prob 1 tooth so far. Everyone's different. Don't do it kid's either way.

I was trying to identify what kind of tree that was where you were hiding at the beginning. Some kind of fruit tree I thought, but I decided it looks most like a mulberry tree. Those things limb out like crazy when no one is around to prune.

I was working on the CB&Q that's a railroad , A fireman on the locomotive then one day I saw a little baby crawling along the track a baby mind you. And I grabbed that baby and I flung it into a nice pile of soft leaves. Me well I didn't make out so good. Fractured my leg. The baby was all right. Today that baby is president of Vons supermarket you think he ever took the trouble to thank me, no sir! Rich folks got short memories.

I used to live in Eugene, Oregon and we had a big yard there and I met many great people who rode the rails. As a teenager we got into a boxcar pushing up to the hub just for fun and that was our right of passage. But we never rode the rails but we loved all the men who did ❤️
