After finishing up our 6-state Midwest USA Tour, @KatinaEatsKilos and I flew across the pond to Dublin, Ireland so we could spend 40+ days exploring most of the major cities and areas around Ireland. During our travels, I attempted 16 Irish man vs food restaurant challenges. For final eating challenge event #16, we headed to The Lantern Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway located in Ballina of Co. Mayo, Ireland so I could attempt their notorious Dry Hot and Spicy Chicken Food Challenge which ended up being the toughest spicy food challenge I've ever tried. I had just 30 short minutes to finish 1lb of their signature Dry Hot & Spicy Chicken, 1lb of spicy Chinese chicken wings, and 1lb of their chips/fries. Each dish was loaded with extra spicy Chinese peppers and the toughest part of the challenge was that you cannot drink any fluids or use any extra sauces for the entire duration of the challenge. No water or milk until after the whole meal is finished. I was trying to become the sixth champion to win my €23.70 spicy Chinese food meal free plus a spot on the Wall of Fame and a €50 gift certificate to come back and use later. BIG thanks to everyone with The Lantern for the wonderful food, drinks, and hospitality!! Special thanks to everyone from around the Co. Mayo area who came to watch and meet us that Sunday afternoon. The Lantern's Chinese Dry Hot & Spicy Chicken Challenge in Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland (€23.70):
- A family restaurant & take away since 1986, The Lantern Chinese Restaurant is famed for its signature dish, Chicken Dry Hot and Spicy. Customers from all corners of Connacht and even Ireland travel miles just to order the Lantern’s Chicken Dry Hot & Spicy, which some have aptly dubbed “The Taste of Ballina”.
- Since 2014, The Lantern has offered this Dry Hot & Spicy Chicken Challenge with a 30 minute time limit that is way spicier than their normal heat signature dish.
- Hundreds of people have attempted the challenge and there had only been 5 previous winners.
- There is 1lb of their Dry Hot & Spicy Chicken loaded with numerous spicy Chinese peppers.
- There is 1lb of spicy chicken wings also served dry hot and loaded with Chinese peppers.
- Finally, there is 1lb of fries/chips served dry hot and loaded with many Chinese peppers.
- The toughest part of the challenge is that you cannot drink any liquids at all or use any extra sauces. Continuing to swallow each bite without any water was truly a super tough challenge.
- Winners receive the €23.70 spicy Chinese meal free plus Wall of Fame and €50 if gift certificates to come back and use later, hopefully for normal food and nothing as spicy as this challenge was.

Be thankful this is edited because this challenge was way tougher and I struggled way more than it appears in the video. A blessing in disguise. Only an extremely sweet beverage 🙂 would reduce the heat. Water would make it hotter unless you were just using it to dunk spice off of it.
these places with spicy challenges really need to offer one spicy challenge wing to anyone in the audience so they can really appreciate what you're doing because they know how hot it is.
I'm sure they already know, as they are not the ones bellying up to the table to take on such a challenge. Just watching Randy eat such a concoction was painful. Not because of his attempt but because he looked like he was in pain during much of the display and looked like he nearly lost it several times. Much respect for taking on the challenge but in no way wanting to "share the experience" by testing the toxicity of the spicy heat.

Randy tackles every food challenge as is and never once complains about the challenge before him and that's awesome. These restaurants set these food challenges and it's upto you to defeat them ,massive respect to the big guy for never complaining about any food challenge he undertakes . Respect.

At a friend s’ restaurant years ago, I attempted their large sausage dog on a bun with fries. I noticed that the order came with Horseradish sauce. Apparently this was the real deal which I was not fully aware of, as there are many types/brands available. Bottom line, I am a wheelchair user and the first bite nearly knocked me off my chair.
Ultimately I finished as I do not believe in failure.
Food challenges are cool, just remember to read the fine print.
