I was working 50-60 hours a week just trying to survive, but I was SO happy for Matt and his incredible journey. He gave me strength and hope to continue on my journey alone. A door closed for me and my hubby, but a huge door opened for Matt and his new life just began at the same time my new life was beginning. He’s an incredible person, so real and down to earth. His voice is mesmerizingly beautiful, and he so deserved to win this competition ! Thank you Matt for entering the contest and giving it your all, and for blossoming out of your shell ! The problem was that people started becoming very anti-mainstream and fighting against The X Factor, at the time. Then, Matt spoke out about the industry and talent show process, which Simon did not like and he had him blacklisted, practically, after a while.

he has an absolutely dreaming voice. He is a true artist and an amzing vocalist. They kind of performer that you do not expect in x factor type of shows. yet he went there and gave a real meaning to such a competition.
Well... he was _dragged_ there. His friends signed him up and packaged him off to London and hid the car until he agreed to do it. He even had to ask another contestant waiting in line what the audition was for LOL and his then-band mates had to convince him that it's the right thing for him to do. I'm so glad he trusted them :D

What a journey and what a transformation! To watch him start out as a man with little self confidence who couldn't look at his audience and to see him gradually progress to where he has become a polished, confident and accomplished performer was a very enjoyable ride. That the guy had the pipes was never in question, but this story is more about how he learned to believe in his gifts and transformed himself into a performer with remarkable stage presence and confidence (no doubt with the help of a lot of good coaching) in this video is remarkable. Two hours well spent!

Can't agree more. He could sing a song like if I were a boy. Have a sorta girly voice and then sing it more manly with a lot of emotion. Insane talent. This was like the last x factor I truly followed 'cause the best actually won.
I loved watching this one again, a good reminder of just how good Matt was and how he deserved to win the Xfactor, it's amazing footage of his whole experience. Will we ever get such a great star again on the show this year, this footage is classic of one of the best wins and best star ever on the show. 2010 was a great year for great stars on the show.

Never heard of him over in mainland europe either. Stumbled upon him way late and purely by chance bc I conciously avoid "talent" shows. I guess Matt was way too unruly right from the start and they knew they wouldn't be able to hold him. So, from a business point of view, why bother with an international effort on the long run, right? Matt isn't dependent on songs being written for him. He isn't dependent on music being created and played for him, either. They just had no handle on him. Total package alright :)
Well Joanie, even here in The Netherlands there is just a handfull of people having heard about him. After his decision to go completely independant the radiostations don't give him airplay, even when he is high in charts. That's how this rotten industry acts. X factor had a reunion of all winners from the last ten years, but they refused to invite him. You have seen this complete compilation, so you've seen all the praising judges-reactions. He completely thrashed the competition. They keep the silence.

Wow... Sad to see he never went anywhere. Amazing voice, one of the best I've heard. And the way he sings The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is unbelievable.
He went on to release 4 self-written solo albums, went on to do regular tours, went on to do countless gigs, went on to an award-winning debut lead role in a Westend musical, went on to team up with Trevor Horn for his 80s project and recently went on to reassemble his old band for their 10yr anniversary. Is that "anywhere" enough for you? ;-)
I started following him after seeing this full compilation. What I love about Matt is that he is very humble yet so passionate, which clearly shows on this compilation, he never shows arrogant attitude but he remain really humble and very amazing person he is. He is very talented. I love him bunches. I hope I could see him someday

Praise the LORD, this coming October 2nd, 2018, I will be celebrating 30 years being clean and sober from alcohol and drugs! Even more weird with all his songs being top quality. Each could be a single. No fillers whatsoever. Compare that to the repetitive pap being massively promoted in the charts, and you know what's wrong with the state of the music industry. Nowadays you need to actively follow artists when you think they're worth it. Everyone else is just burning money fighting for media attention, while complaining about it at the same time. Insane.

OMG I'm kicking myself for not seeing this as it happened. I missed it for 5 years! I have girls, I know Brittany Spears songs. And when he sung that, I couldn't place where I'd heard it before. Generally, I don't like covers, but every song he's sung appeals to me more than the original. He's adorable on stage, the quirky parts are fitting, somehow. And I love how he makes the songs his own. "ever I saw your face' was always one I loved, and this is my favorite version.

Matt currently stars in the lead role of "Huey Calhoun" in the West End musical "Memphis" next to Beverley Knight. His acting debut went down a storm with reviewers, getting praise from all over the place. He surely managed to surprise and impress quite a lot of people. Not only with his incredible vocal range and strength but also with his natural, quirky, compelling stage presence. He'll also be releasing his 4th solo album once he finished his run towards the end of October. Go, Matt! :)

How do you measure "huge artistry" tho? By the number of times the media hugely hyping up one's latest drunken morally corrupt spouts every other day ... or by actually keeping one's head down and spending a huge amount of time on doing artistic things? Like writing and producing music, relentlessly touring and gigging and even taking on stage acting and being good at it?

He went on to release 4 self-written solo albums, went on to do regular tours, went on to do countless gigs, went on to an award-winning debut lead role in a Westend musical, went on to team up with Trevor Horn for his 80s project and recently went on to reassemble his old band for their 10yr anniversary. What I love about Matt is that he is very humble yet so passionate, which clearly shows on this compilation, he never shows arrogant attitude but he remain really humble and very amazing person he is. Praise the LORD, this coming October 2nd, 2018, I will be celebrating 30 years being clean and sober from alcohol and drugs! Nowadays you need to actively follow artists when you think they're worth it. Everyone else is just burning money fighting for media attention, while complaining about it at the same time. Insane.

OMG I'm kicking myself for not seeing this as it happened. I missed it for 5 years! I have girls, I know Brittany Spears songs. And when he sung that, I couldn't place where I'd heard it before. Generally, I don't like covers, but every song he's sung appeals to me more than the original. He's adorable on stage, the quirky parts are fitting, somehow. And I love how he makes the songs his own. "ever I saw your face' was always one I loved, and this is my favorite version.

Matt currently stars in the lead role of "Huey Calhoun" in the West End musical "Memphis" next to Beverley Knight. His acting debut went down a storm with reviewers, getting praise from all over the place.
He surely managed to surprise and impress quite a lot of people. Not only with his incredible vocal range and strength but also with his natural, quirky, compelling stage presence.
He'll also be releasing his 4th solo album once he finished his run towards the end of October.

How do you measure "huge artistry" tho? By the number of times the media hugely hyping up one's latest drunken morally corrupt spouts every other day ... or by actually keeping one's head down and spending a huge amount of time on doing artistic things? Like writing and producing music, relentlessly touring and gigging and even taking on stage acting and being good at it?
