- I this more vlog style video with very little editing I fit a super cheap head unit that I ordered from aliexpress to get CarPlay in the MX5 - It was the cheapest one for sale that I could find.
It seems to work ok considering the price and was easy enough to fit.

Do the steering wheel audio buttons still work with this head unit?
Yes they do! Had to manually map each one but all good now
@@jooshy could you please do a video on the buttons mapping? Did you need to plug any other cables? Thanks
For button mapping just open the button app and you can pair which button you want to do what.. no extra cables needed. @

Just bought mine for my MX5 with Bose system, does anyone know why I have no audio?
Hi there. It's got something to do with the unit not having a canbus to activate the amp. There is a blue cable that needs to be Bridge apparently
How's this doing after a couple of months? Still OK? My experience with budget android stuff in the past has been that it starts off OK but rapidly goes downhill. Be interested to know if this is still working OK? Really enjoying the channel btw.

How does it sound when playing music? Any better or worse than standard head unit.
About the same! - it’s good enough considering the speakers mx5s have. I don’t have the Bose system or anything like that
Jooshy! I'm looking at getting an NC and was looking at this unit. Look up some videos on YT about and who comes up, this mofo. Love you Joosh! Always enjoy you and Taylor on AA V2. Question, does your NC have any steering controls? One I'm doing doesn't and wonder if its an easy swap to a steering wheel with them. Maybe different connectors.

Do you have the Bose pack on your NC ? Because i have the same probleme on mine
@@nas407 Yes, I have a Bose system, but I was able to solve it by just connecting a cable and that's it.

Haha yeah! And yes it is, I used to buy xtrons head units for 4 times the price without CarPlay, I was a little hesitant that this was what it said it was! - they’re easy enough to pull out again if it didn’t work 🤣
Nice video Jooshy. Love the channel, can't wait to see where this project goes. One note about those AliExpress/Chinese units (you might already be aware) but some of them like to phone home to untrustworthy servers. Some people have been know to have trouble with their Google Accounts and such when using these units. If privacy/security is a concern to you, I would perhaps suggest a unit from a trusted brand 😊
I’ve seen articles about them yes! - I never sign in with my google account on the android bit to avoid it! - on my xtrons units i have had in the past I use a google account just for the head unit and nothing else

That looked easy. I have the sanyo in my car and it looks to be wired up differently. But I'd love to swap it even to something like this as it's slow and out of date maps as well as the Bluetooth calls are awful quality no one can hear me.

By the way, I'm sure you've noticed by now but the "button colour" thing is true. When you have your lights on, the white buttons on the right light up different colours
Yeah! It seems the only thing that is. I’m genuinely impressed for how cheap it was! - it was on some horrid rgb disco setting initially so I’ve changed it to warm white to match the interior.
@@jooshyHaha, I remember the disco you're talking about - I changed mine to orange to match the car's dials very quickly

Really enjoying the new channel! Expecting those subscriber numbers to shoot up with the variety on the channel. Out of interest, what do you use for recording your video and audio? Considered recording my own videos for working on cars/bikes but haven't been brave enough to try it yet.
For general camera stuff I use a canon c100 mk2 and I have a 5d mk3 and 1dx mk2 which yield some nice results. Then I use rode wireless mics. I’ve also got a handful of GoPros which is what I used for the head unit video as the quality is good enough.
@jooshy that's an impressive set up! Thanks for coming back to me, much appreciated and look forward to the MX-5 rust repair videos. Off to The Machine shop in a few weeks to do 4 hour welding course as my E46 touring rear arches are in need of attention!

Hi Jooshy - can I ask how is radio reception as it looked like you just plugged in the aerial cable only but no switchable power supply to the amplified aerial? Doo you get good radio reception? Does the unit have DAB or FM ? Thanks
