I just bought my 2004 350z yesterday! I've been watching your videos for a long time wanting one and I can't believe I finally have it! So excited to be part of this community, I love the car so far! To anyone still looking, just be patient and the right one will come. I got mine for around 6k, you just have to really look
It is so good!! My next video is also dedicated to this headunit and it's Micro-HDMI capabilities. I may or may not be turning my car into a gaming PC hahaha really appreciate your comment Tyler!!
@@JohnnyB. if you turn the car on, and leave your phone in your pocket will it automatically start up apple auto? or do you have to select it? Im looking at this headunit
@@benjaminwilson3578 Automatically starts CarPlay! By the time I put my seatbelt on, the phone is connected and ready to use! Definitely one of my favorite features. Appreciate your comment Ben :)
I did want to make a few notes about the wiring: All of the wires match up to their same colored wires (blue+white to blue+white, red to red, yellow to yellow, etc). The one wire that was different was the ORANGE+WHITE wire coming from the back of the Sony harness that says "illumination" actually connects to the SOLID orange wire coming from the OEM car harness (included with the bezel). There are three wires I did not use whatsoever, two of those wires are on the Sony harness and one of them is on the OEM harness side. Those were the PINK+WHITE wire (this is a speed-in wire to help the GPS track better, but isn't needed due to the GPS module included with the Sony Headunit. There is a PURPLE+WHITE wire, and this one is for the rear-view camera, which I don't have so I didn't use it. THEN lastly, on the OEM side of the harness, there is a SOLID BLUE wire that I taped over and didn't use (make sure this isn't the BLUE+WHITE wire, as it connects to the other BLUE+WHITE wire) The light green "Parking Brake" wire is a ground wire that is supposed to be attached to the parking brake. This is so certain aspects of the screen can only be used while parked with the brake on and is a safety feature. If you don't want this limitation, you can ground the parking brake wire to any normal ground spot and it will work normally! MY ONLY GRIPE: I'm writing this 2 days after the install and I'm starting to get the hang of not having a volume knob anymore. It's taking a little bit of time to get used to pressing the Volume - / + to adjust the sound level, but the extra screen width and sensitivity is worth it. Plus, the Volume - / + buttons are pretty high quality and have a good click-feel to them so it's not the worst, and it moves pretty quick when you hold it down for a second or two. Definitely getting used to it and will be something that is second nature in the future. That is basically everything! If I can think of anything else extra I had to do, I'll add it! Let me know if you have any questions below! :) Sony XAV-AX6000 - amzn.to/44F6HMC 350z Double Din Screen Housing / Bezel - amzn.to/44HiVV5
Perfect timing haha! This one is really nice! Such an improvement on the interior. I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner🙏🏼 thanks for tuning in today (:
Just bought this stereo after I watched your video! I just picked up my 03 350z about a month ago and its bone stock with only 65k miles. I've always wanted a Z and I'm so happy with it. This is going to be a nice upgrade for the car, I've been playing music out of my iPhone since I got the car hahah. Also I'm very curious what your doing with the hdmi...
The solid blue wire that you taped over is actually for the antenna amplifier signal. You need to connect it to the blue/white wire to ensure the antenna works properly. Otherwise, your radio's FM/AM signal quality may be poor.
It looks really good. I think im buying a fully stock 2003 350z with 58k miles tomorrow! I'm excited to do some of my own upgrades this will definitely be one of them thank you for the helpful video. What year is your 350z?
Aye johnny I’m about to pull the trigger on this head unit because of you and this video, did you wire anything to the parking brake? Crutchfield says that’s required for this radio. Thanks bro
Hey! That green wire that I grounded to the frame of the car is the "Parking Brake" ground. Technically you are supposed to connect it to the parking brake, so it only works with the parking brake engaged (safety feature). I just grounded it it to a random spot so I could use it whenever lol Appreciate your comment my friend! :)
...and I just got back haha!! I pretty much have a nightly ritual to spend 2-3 hours in my car in a random fast-food parking lot lol! Catching up on RUclips videos, replying to comments and planning future videos! Honestly, my car is where I brainstorm the best! Good to see you again rcsc, hope all has been well with you.
Highly recommended!! As far as quality-of-life "feel" in the interior, this has really done the trick. So far almost everyone that has ridden with me has said it looks almost OEM just because of how well the headunit housing / screen fit in the dash! Really appreciate your comment man!
get ax 7k or ax9500? Just pull 1din orig out and put 1din to 2din adjustable in? it`s not even that much difference in cash, as a bonus You get 100x4 pre amp an a bigger screen
Haha great minds think alike!! Forrreal though this thing is awesome, the colors are so vibrant and the screen is really sensitive. I’d say the only thing that I’m still getting used to is the fact that it doesn’t have a volume knob and I need to press the volume up/down buttons… luckily the buttons have a really high-quality feeling click, and if you hold them down, they go up/down pretty quickly. That’s really the only thing I’ve found so far that has taken me time to get used to! Really appreciate your comment Luke!
RIGHT!? Haha I was thinking that too, but a new Z would still be pretty sweet XD I think I'd rather have an authentic Nismo 350z though If I was going to spend the $$! Appreciate your comment Jay :)
Finally!! XD Being completely transparent, I average about $300/month from RUclips and spend almost all of that on gas to drive around throughout the month haha so saving to buy this $600 headunit actually took me some time. Once the channel is bigger, there will be more mods. Until then, we'll drive the car and just hang out like in most videos, with certain special occasions being Installs :) Really appreciate you tuning in man.
I'm loving it so far! Funny you mention it, turning the volume up and down with the buttons on the bottom is taking me some time to get used to... but it's only been a day and I'm already getting the hang of it! Once the muscle memory is there, we'll be chillin! It is hard to beat just spinning the knob though, definitely will be missed! So far that is my only gripe with the headunit, but it's a worthy trade for the larger screen and great sensitivity! Really appreciate your comment my friend!
hey, i follow you from italy, your videos are spectacular. I wanted to ask you a question about the 350z, is there the possibility of disassembling the plastic that covers the rear dome bar of the boot for a possible repair of the plastic? Thanks and keep it up!
So the wires on the new screen and double din come separate but you have to tape them together? Or they already come taped together? What did you use to tape them together ?
You didn’t crimp that Sony harness you bought the Crutchfield service for 36.00 lol and that’s okay, I did too because it’s actually a small price to pay to make it plug n play but at least explain the service that Crutchfield offers instead of claiming their work as yours lol
Hey! Great question, my other car is a convertible Miata so the 350z is honestly really quiet on the road comparatively haha. Plus with a loud exhaust, there's a tiny bit of drone while driving so that also drowns out some of the road noise. Also, the quality of your tires can really change how loud the road is while driving! Softer rubber will absorb the noise better! Appreciate your comment and you tuning in! :)
Ahhh dang, so sorry to hear my friend. I hope you get another Z soon and re-install everything to it's former glory!! It is a great head unit, definitely feel like I made the right choice. Appreciate you tuning in and leaving a comment! :)
It's really such a damn shame. That sweet MM unit being wasted with an iPhone. Seriously bro, what's the point of getting an LDAC unit when IT'S IMPOSSIBLE for you to get Hi-Res audio on it. The only way to play anything lossless on Apple it's gotta be with a Mac/book or the Vision Pro Quest Dreamcaster. I see a bunch of the Apple fanboys crossing their fingers, writing to Santa, and making all their wishes about the iPhone16 being able to FINALLY do HQ audio. My bet is...only for the pro cause why would Apple treat it's users fairly? But I can confirm that this is a badass unit.
It was a bit expensive, but so far it's been worth every penny!! I think I get into my car to drive around at least 3-4 times a day minimum, so I felt it was a necessary upgrade, plus I didn't want a screen that was super laggy so the extra $ was worth in that aspect as well :) Appreciate your comment Alex!
