For me definitely the NC1 with fabric seats and soft top, the hardtop lacks in length when it comes to looks. There are Hardtops you can get for the soft top which are longer and actually give the car a way better line. Was looking for a miata around June of last year and I watched your guys’ other ‘so you want a miata’ video religiously, noticed the lack of NC talk and decided to check the prices on that gen and found my current baby; 06’ NC miata with 98k miles for $5,000. Love this car and I’m so glad you dedicated a whole video on it!
I have an NC Mayada it’s a great car. It still has the Hydro power steering. And the size and comfort is great. And the retractable hardtop is much better than the current model.
Agreed, though I love the looks of the RF, when I drove it the blind spot and Targa top wind buffeting drove me crazy. Didn't hurt that my NC2 PRHT saved me about 10K either ;)
I own an NC and i love it. My biggest problem is the aftermarket support regarding body kits. But its a reliable car. The 2.0 engine has been very reliable when taken care of. Comfortable ride after a coilover install. With higher displacement, youre faster than stock NA and NB miatas a lil more zippy but youre also heavier. This generation of miatas wanted to put in a more comfortable interior which is the reason for the heavier weight.
The more comfortable interior was really secondary. The car is bigger and heavier because it's a cut-down RX-8. But in my opinion, the pounds in the NC are well justified, because compared to NA and NB, it is a MUCH stiffer and more advanced chassis. Although the architecture is basically RX-8, Mazda changed and pulled weight out of almost every part. If you do the various strengthening mods to make an NA or NB as stuff as the NC, you'll easily get up to NC weight. The NC has a lighter engine and lighter suspension components than the early cars. A lot of the heavy parts that can be removed or replaced on the old cars are already light and strong on the NC. The engineering is simply much further on. The ND is obviously lighter, largely due to being hit with the 7/8ths shrink ray.
I don’t know if anyone will see or understand this, but I’m a HAM radio operator, and right now I’m actually gearing up to make the NC I drive my mobile rig set up. In short I’ll be putting a big ol antenna on it and it’ll kinda look like a big RC car. Not a very cool look, but I love it none the less.
What got me into mazda was the Rx8. Strange to most but it looked beautiful to me. Well with the NC being built on the bones of the Rx8 made me enjoy the ride of the car. I loved it, but I bought a na miata a few months back. I love it, but now I want them all lol.
I liked the car so much I bought a NC3 Miata. Slammed it down on some Ohlins coilovers, put some Enkeis on it and now this next year going to get some hyper grams for the track. The car doesn’t get much love but these chassis are so capable people swap a 2.5 Duratec motor into them and slay others all day long

Honestly, it's perfectly fine in stock form. Just swap out the old brittle plastic overflow tank for a new aluminum version for a little piece of mind. That and some good tires and you're good to go
I bought a Nc 2012 true red an i am so happy with it. I changed only the wheels for a lightweight italian Sparco and what a difference!. The NC is the best miata ever. A friend has a ND2 and although the engine is bettter, the electronic steering wheel system is not comparable with the Hydraulic fron the NC. Alabama the exhaust pipes are better looking in the NC.
I own an ND but I love the NC too (and NA and NB…). When I was younger I thought it was too “bubbly” stylistically but it’s really grown on me in last 5 years. The hardtops in particular look sick to me now. ND is really nice, but it’s at a relative premium price. NC gives you same amazing driving experience without sacrificing much on safety and features but at a much lower entry price.
I love my MX 5. When I bought it my nephew said it was a girl car. I found that he was right. I drove it to the hospital parking lot and all of a sudden all the nurses wanted to ride in it, the nurses stroked the car softly along its fenders and would want to spend time sitting in the cabin and check out all the instruments. So if you want a sports car and want to attract pretty women, go buy a Mazda MX5 NC with a 2.0 liter engine.
I'm glad y'all did this video. The NC Miata's are the one's that I've been looking for. I guess I usually go for the less loved generations. I went for a 9th gen Civic SI instead of a 8th or 10th, I want a NC Miata instead of a NA or NB. Both of the cars people bitched about the suspension... who cares don't we usually lower the damn things anyway?
Just bought a 2012 grand touring… love it! Sold my NB that I drove for almost 10 years for almost the same price I paid in 2013. The NC is a more refined daily driver. The hard top is awesome… and when the top is down, the NC is so planted to the road.
you should see my NC. its a beast. has a 2.5L swap from a 2014 ford fusion. it defenitly hauls ass. has a full straight pipe, intake, gecko coilovers and federal ss595's to let me slide but keep grip. Stage 2 tune. ~220 hp 185tq

Mazda MX-5 Miata NC 2,0' The NC MX-5 (with no internal engine mods in that video) is driven by ex-Koenigsegg testdriver Robert Serwanski and he gets held up by a 997.2 GT3RS TWO times. The GT3RS driver overtakes him on the long straight but gets overtaken by the NC MX-5 in the continuous twisty sections of the Nordschleife. Since then, he's posted an even faster laptime of 7:37. It is the true definition of slow-car-fast > fast-car-slow.
Now over a year with my NC2 and I absolutely adore it! Coilovers, light wheels and good tyres, trunk strut bar and some door bushings really make it a beast. Along with some QOL upgrades it has been my most beloved daily and will be for a long time to come since I had a professional to deal with all past and future rust problems.
You can ditch the trunk strut bar and save the weight. For one thing, Miatas don't have struts, so the shock towers aren't subject to the kind of stress that strut cars are. But more importantly, right in front of the trunk is a MASSIVE structural beam which makes the rear-wheel area the stiffest part of the car. Many other cars, especially hatchbacks, are very weak back there and benefit from the bar. Miatas have that covered from the factory. A better reinforcement is to get a butterfly brace on the bottom of the car to box-in the PPF tunnel. Door bushings are legit tho.
@@JETZcorp thanks for the advice. The rear strut bar I got is a slim single piece that barely weighs over a kilogram. But I will look into the underbody brace you described, sounds very useful. As of now I also replaced the facory front strut brace with a 4 point single piece one from ultra racing. This definitely helps my coilovers work more better. And it gives considerable Street cred whenever you open the hood.
@@Kyouske_42 Yes, the front braces are good since the front of the car is not nearly as solid as the rear (due to an engine being in the way). It'll make your coilovers work better simply because it stops the whole car from twisting around them. The stiffer your springs, the more benefit you get from stiffness. Flyin' Miata did a long video about stiffness and bracing for Miatas. It's excellent, even if the NC doesn't get mentioned as much as the others.
NC is definitely an underappreciated car, I even underappreciate it I actually wanted one until I saw the ND. I appreciate and smile more when I see a NC, especially when I'm in my ND2 😁
Just got a 2008 NC recently with the 2.0 MZR, the engine is great, the transmission even better, the handling is so refined yet responsive... it's true when they say a Miata is a great introduction to a 911 :)
We got an NC 3 weeks ago and just joined a Miata club. We got a couple of comments about it from miata “purists” because it’s about 200 pounds heavier. An actual trunk you can use, comfortable legroom, extra heating vents for your legs, a glove box and two storage spaces behind the seats. What’s not to love? And I think they look better than the 4th gen.
Nevermind all the extra space we get compared to those guys, our cars have a MUCH stiffer chassis and much more advanced suspension geometry. Fun fact next time someone wants to talk about weight. Our 2.0 engine weighs less - quite a lot less - than the original CAST IRON 1.6 from the first NAs. The NC is actually a few pounds lighter than the Mazdaspeed NB, AND we have just as much power. At the end of the day, we're still 300lbs lighter than an S2000.
NC Miata MX-5 is just so underrated, and same to R33 GT-R and 996 911, I just love those not as much loved equivalents of legendary cars, other examples that I might can think of for now is the A70 Supra, 3rd generation.
My dad’s 2012 NC was the first car I learned manual in as a teen. It was so fun I loved that car. Ended up buying an NA for my first car later. NC was wonderful and I miss it’s happy face every day!
I have an NC in the middle of a 2.5L swap right now. With the Mazdaspeed bumper, Fortune 500's, Advan TC4's, and a hardtop, I'll take it any day over the NA/NB
I’ve never owned a Mazda car, and I never thought I would. Saw an NC Miata at a dealership one day, hopped in to check it out and I immediately fell in love with it. My friends asked why I got it, since it’s SO SLOW. I don’t even care about that I just love this little car lol.
I have a Competition Yellow 09 GT soft top and I love it to bits! Sway bars do WORLDS of difference for it, and a good exhaust really less it sound good.
An NC in STR trim is an excellent Touge car and still makes a good STR car for local events. They're competitive against S2000's and nobody considers them slow.. 😉
I drive a gun metal grey 2014 MX 5 NC. A ten second car. It came out of the box race ready with Le Mans paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Every time I drive it I'm in a James Bond movie. When people see it they ask, 'does it have machine guns behind the fog lights?' The license plate reads 009. It's definitely licensed to kill. Does a 'drift' nicely. Q branch read out, race ready with paddle shifters. A ten second car, does 0 to 100 mph in ten seconds. Double wish bone suspension and drive while flat tires makes her a nimble cat with tough paws. The body is made of rust resistant steel and carbon fiber (Kevlar) material. The hood, roof and trunk lid are aluminum. It has quarter inch metal armor under the engine and transmission. Stainless steel exhaust naturally. A seven speaker Boise sound system keeps the Bond theme music coming thru 5 by 5.
Love my NC. still working on the basic 2.5L swap, but boi when i tell you that it revs at 4000 rpm in 6th going down the interstate at 80mph.... i get scared that it will explode.
Front swap NC 1 onto any later NC. It was the best take. Own a dark metallic green 07 touring package 17 stock alloys and swapped tein street basis z. Car is a real looker and great fun to drive

I drove one this past sunday... I had the time of my life
Love my NC, 7 years with it and has not failed me. Have all sorts of vids with it on my channel too
I’ve wanted this vid for a long time
Just got a 2008 NC recently with the 2.0 MZR, the engine is great, the transmission even better, the handling is so refined yet responsive... it's true when they say a Miata is a great introduction to a 911 :)
Throwing some D-List vibes today
September 7th,2001 this is not a coincidence I'm definitely buying a Miata 😂
NC Miata MX-5 is just so underrated, and same to R33 GT-R and 996 911, I just love those not as much loved equivalents of legendary cars, other examples that I might can think of for now is the A70 Supra, 3rd generation.
I feel like that should have been the intro for the So You Want A Mazda RX-8
A heavier car on a related platform with a significant less reliable engine?
Lemme tell you a little something my guy, I own an NC3 Miata, and I fucking love it !!
“We don’t judge you like Sears does” i need this on a shirt
Oh! So you want a 2nd gen Lexus IS too
My dad’s 2012 NC was the first car I learned manual in as a teen. It was so fun I loved that car. Ended up buying an NA for my first car later. NC was wonderful and I miss it’s happy face every day!
What happened to it?
@@eurosonly He sold it when MS took away is ability to use his left foot. Couldn’t drive manual anymore ;-;
I have an NC in the middle of a 2.5L swap right now. With the Mazdaspeed bumper, Fortune 500's, Advan TC4's, and a hardtop, I'll take it any day over the NA/NB
Hey at the end of the day a Miata is a Miata and it'll throw a smile on your face :)
This episode was dope fr! 👍👍
Day 14 asking... *So you want a Dodge Grand Caravan*
Thanks guys!
Got mine NC two years ago for cheap , tracking it is most fun ever .
Please let people think the NC is bad, so I can buy one for less. ;)
You guys realize... you have to do the NB now too! Show it some love y'all; it was even the first Mazdaspeed model too!
I love the NC because it reflects what kind of person I am chubby but a lot of fun
I’ve never owned a Mazda car, and I never thought I would. Saw an NC Miata at a dealership one day, hopped in to check it out and I immediately fell in love with it. My friends asked why I got it, since it’s SO SLOW. I don’t even care about that I just love this little car lol.
The NC is way better than anyone, especially miata people, give it credit for. Everyone just calls it a boat, then buy an NA.
I enjoy mine 2010 and she gets the love/attention. A loyal stead~
I have a Competition Yellow 09 GT soft top and I love it to bits! Sway bars do WORLDS of difference for it, and a good exhaust really less it sound good.
Next video you should do either the 2006-2010 jeep srt or the Chrysler 300 srt 2006-2012
Dude I love your mannerisms you seem like a cool dude to party with.
I'm 52, I own a 06 MX 5 (only year it wasn't called a Miata)...I love that thing, most fun car I've ever owned....
Love my 2008 GT w/ retractable hardtop!
Nc miata for life! Got a 2015 club on tein coilovers, racing beat sways front&rear, and an exhaust. Couldnt ask for anything else
ive never heard anyone say that they want an NC Miata
Well I wanted an ND but I could afford an NC so I took what I could get lmfao
yeah I feel like the NC is just an more expensive and heavy NB, only big guys that are really into miatas are into them.
Anybody who ever got to drive my stock-ass 2.0 started looking for one.
@@Vge21x dude I love mine, its so fun to drive.
I own one :) (And I wanted one before I owned one)
I have an NA miata and I would love an NC miata
Love my NC. still working on the basic 2.5L swap, but boi when i tell you that it revs at 4000 rpm in 6th going down the interstate at 80mph.... i get scared that it will explode.
same! I'm almost done with my 2.5 swap in my '07 GT, hope yours goes well, dude!
What engine?
@@sebyfloristean9514 mzr/duratec out of mazda sp25s and such, search fab9tunning videos with a 400whp NC
3000-4000 is their sweet spot. They can run in that range all day long and love it.
Omg I love mine. It's nice to see anyone talking about them
PRHT MX-5 motoring on a winding country road, wave to the Porsche stranded on the road.
I have an nc with 55k miles, i blacked it out and it looks sooooo good and fun to drive as well, got it tuned and it does not feel sluggish no more :)
Front swap NC 1 onto any later NC. It was the best take. Own a dark metallic green 07 touring package 17 stock alloys and swapped tein street basis z.
Car is a real looker and great fun to drive
Ha, love the video, liked and subscribed. John. Oh, yep got an nc2 kendo in mica black, prht. 2lt. Love it. Never selling it.
Only the early NC1 had the 4x4 appearance. That was taken care of later.
Man you have to do the matrix and vibe gt I tried to add it into the gallery the other day but had fo send old photos to new phone so wait once you see "the vibe" you will think it was foolish to not make a so u want before much love tho u guys rock love all series watch em everynight 🚗🚖

I love the Horse and Rider as 1 mentality that goes into all Mazdas.
I got an nc as my first car and I love the car
I have one. It’s great. Buy one.
