Yep, I had Y as the Squier, simply because X sounded more 'airy' or articulate, not so 'in yer face' as Y. Yes, you can tell there's a price difference, but 5 times the price?...China (?) are producing some seriously good guitars, it cannot be denied, I mean $300 vs $1500, I do not hear $1200 worth of difference.

Sound is one thing, but there are so many other considerations. Hardware and electronics quality, tuning stability, alignment of the strings over the neck. I’ve owned “inexpensive” guitars, Indo PRS, and Squiers, ( bought online!)and gotten rid of them because of shortcomings in these areas. And being somewhat of a hack player, I lack the talent needed to overcome these issues. Granted, made in USA is no guarantee of perfection, but I think by and large, the quality is superior. Worth 5x more? Well, if the inexpensive one has one or more of the issues listed above, I’d have to say yes.

X was obviously the Fender. Y was obviously the Squier Affinity. But they were closer than I was expecting them to be - particularly on the clean tones. The Fender had more clarity punch and presence. The Squier Affinity was louder but muddy and harder to make out the notes both separately and in the chords. But I'd be very interested to hear the Affinity with some decent (not necessarily expensive) Alnico lower output humbuckers with better clarity/definition and see how much the difference between the two guitars reduces...I'm sure for not too much money this could be achieved.....

I knew Y was the Squier straight away due to it's pickups being hotter. But yeah, they were ballpark similar otherwise. On an album or live no-one would really flinch. I think the 5x cost is more about the quality and durability of the instrument (and is totally worth it). All my cheap Squiers have had input jacks, selector switches, other wiring go bung over time. Never had a Classic Vibe level Squier though.

In cleans Fender is brighter, the Squier sounds more crunchy, with distortion the Fender sounds excellent, but the Squier sounds a bit muddy, like the notes are lost in the distortion but just a bit. I knew the x was the Fender principally for the cleans, I ordered a Squier Affinity Tele deluxe and I'm happy, I like a lot of genres but I really like metal, it'll work.

Cheap enough to swap PUS, hardware and electro-guts and still have money left over.

What's everybody talking about. They both sounded EXACTLY the same. I think people differences has more to do with preconceived notions of how a Squier is not going to sound as good as a Fender at 5 times the price. I have the Squier Burgundy Mist arriving today. Technically, I am not blown away by the way either of them sounds, but then again, I am not controlling the settings. I have intentions of being able to drop a nice set of humbuckers in there. Oddly enough the Squier has the stock humbucker configurations to allow an easy swap. Maybe a set of humbuckers with coil split capabilities, and individual volume or tone knob splitting so any combination is possible? I'll have to go look at what Breja Toneworks has with an HH wiring options.

I just purchased a Squier Deluxe, and it came out of the box perfectly setup, and plays just great. I have. an American standard Strat from 1984, and another affinity single coil tele. The first affinity tele is a nice guitar, but needed a lot of setup and some fret work. The new deluxe plays as well as my Strat, an amazing value. The feel of the neck is really awesome.

They say playing a Squire Affinity is like riding a moped. It's all fun until your friends see you playing it.

X had to be the Fender. The clarity was really good and it had a manageable output. Y is the Squire. The put put was hot and it didn't quite have the clarity as X. All in all, that is an Amazing guitar. If I had the money right now, I would buy that Squire hands down.

Got it right😊 my question for Landon is did you adjust the settings at all between each guitar?
For instance I do have an affinity telecaster and if I switch between that and say my gretsch with filtertrons the output is so different i have to increase the gain and play with other settings to compensate.

Let's see if I'm am idiot or what lmao. I think guitar Y has hotter brighter pickups and X seems more controlled and darker. Again I know nothing just an opinion from average Joe

This is totally nuts, I was so sure, Y was the Fender becsuse the sound had so much more transparency and high end.
I was thinking "comparing ghose wide range PUs to conventional humbuckers is not fair".
Actually those cheap Squier humbuckers seem to have a much flater frequency response than the Fender wide range PUs.
And the whole guitar sounds better to me. Unbelievable!

I had guessed that the Fender Tele was Guitar X. They both sound very similar and if they weren't played one after the other, it would be hard to tell, I think. Though, the Fender seemed to be a little clearer in tone. Both sounded good, though. Thanks for the video.

In my headphones X really wasn’t that close to Y. Y seemed less distinct and clear and a little shrill and lacking depth. But not “bad”. I’d be stoked to have the Affinity. But I do think for slightly more money , the Classic Vibe option outshines it. Although what a beautiful looking instrument!

I found a fucking blue frost tele+ with the lace sensors and all from 1992 on reverb for 1300 a year or two ago. And thank God I was just lurking. I bought that shit 10 minutes after I was posted , dude didn't know what he had, or thought that the chip in the paint/lacquer that looked almost like it was intentionally reliced but was genuine Roadwear somehow brought down the value of the guitar

HeyLando, I’ve been on the market for a humbucker guitar for a while now. Not a les Paul or sg fan, so these interest me. I’m a strat player and I’m wondering if either the full fat fender or the squire 2xhumbuk tele will satisfy my needs for a heavier blues/rock axe. Thoughts man?

Tele style with 2 humbuckers only Tagima T850. You'll find Classic vibe and Fenders but the economy is bad right now and these are costing as much as a car. Classic teles we have Michael, Strinberg and SX

Playing the guitar may not be too useful, because playing styles change, people play different, people get better or worse, and hearing something once is not enough to give an idea of what the pickup will sound like in the future.
A better measure would be to measure the inductance of the pickup, and compare it to pickups widely known to be good. For example, the Gibson PAF's have an inductance of 4.4uh with ALNICO pickups. If the Affinity also has the same, the guitars will likely sound the same (hopefully, the American will have better frets etc...)

  • @badscrew4023
    @badscrew4023 2 года назад

These sounded near identical, with Y having ever so slightly more brightness. But both have pretty dark pickups, so the Y is still very dark.
I didn’t know which one was a Fender and actually didn’t care. Not the sound I search for, for both of these :)

Curiously I preferred X clean on single pickup, slightly better clarity, but Y clean combined. Dunno why I preferred Y combined though.
Dirt I wasn't really fussed either way on singles, but marginally Y on combined.
I didn't bother guessing which was which. It only matters which one I'd prefer. But I'd have to figure out what pup combos I want to use first. Lol.
Incidentally, your graphics say clean at 7:00 when they probably meant dirty.

Y! More separation between strings and a slightly higher output and pronounced tone. Cheaper guitar wins! Squires rule. ( I just snagged one for $200 bucks, used on eBay, so I may be slightly biased. )
