FX is dead. You can get a Ryzen 3 for less than what people try to sell 8350s for, and it will outperform it. Plus you have an upgrade path, faster ram, m.2 support, etc. There are just too many used PCs with sandybridge, and up, processors that will give you a better experience.

@Murphy deffa Ha ha, no. How did you figure that out? Have you ever used a 9590? I still have one in a plastic clam shell that I pulled out of a liquid cooled system it fried...at stock.
I would give mine to Timmy to benchmark it / overclock it and let it get curbed stomped by even an R3.
That thing is not even close to a 1700 or 1700x at stock, even if you got all 8 cores running at 5.0 ghz, it's overclocked poop IPCS. And it barely overclocks. It's not even a guaranteed 5 ghz past the default 2 core boost. But if you do manage it, the single core difference will still be 25-28 percent slower. And you might catch up 7 percent, in multicore performance, to the 1700x, which is stock vs stock is 128% faster.
And the cost, man. You need hard core liquid cooling to even run the damn thing, at stock. Even something like an h80i won't do it. You need the most expensive motherboard from that era, too. You're actually looking at paying the same or more for outdated, slower technology.

Is the FX 8350 still shit if you get it for free? Including an ROG mainboard? And you are still running on a Phenom II X6 1055T with a GTX 1050 ti? Because that is exactly my situation, I might get an FX 8350 as an upgrade for my system from a friend for free. Should I appreciate it? Or is it not better than my Phenom?

    • @Nocturnous
      @Nocturnous 5 лет назад +1

@@lonzodaman It's better than the Phenom. It has higher IPCs, more cores, and a higher clock speed, especially overclocked. And you can still play a lot of games, and if you're only looking for that 60 fps range, it will get the job done in a lot of titles.
I would just never recommend investing money into the platform as there are just so many better options, now.

I have an 8150 OCd to 4.2GHz paired with a GTX 1070Ti and it's not bad at all. I can easily make the GPU the bottleneck in most games and I've been getting perfectly playable to amazing framerates at near-max settings (including in modern titles). The bad rep from the bulldozer/vishera line of CPUs would have people believing it was an all-around bad architecture but that's far from true. The design choice to discard SMT in favour of CMT for marketing reasons (to claim the first "true" 8-core) was ultimately what caused the flood of bad hate; The marketing led people to believe that CMT is somehow better but it had technical caveats that caused real-world performance issues because it didn't work well with games that failed to utilise multi-threading efficiently. The biggest (and in my humble opinion only important) issue has to do with the simple fact that the dedicated nature of CMT prevents single-threaded processes from benefiting from the normally unused resources that are shared between more than one core with SMT. However this same design decision actually allows for *better* performance with multi-threaded processes as the threads wouldn't be fighting for resources as they normally would with SMT. Therefore any new games that are designed with multi-threading in mind (like almost all of the ones worth mentioning) could very well end up playing better on an AMD FX chip than on a similar-spec'd Intel chip that uses hyperthreading. So really that whole comment just makes you look like a fool to those of us who actually know better.

im not saying its bad, im just saying its NOT better, if i go and OC my 3770 even to 4.1Ghz that FX its done for sure, and let my clarify, the only reason i got intel CPU its cause here in Cuba you dont see any AMD CPUs, so i had to stick with what i can, and by the way im still in 3rd gen cause prices, cant go to 6th

I remember that case with the blue "bubble LEDs" on the front... from around 2001-2005, not precisely sure, but that's when I worked for CompUSA, and we sold it there, so spot on with the estimate. I also recall it being popular because it was only $30 or $40, had a clear side panel and blue LEDs when those were just becoming a big thing, meaning the next cheapest would run you at least $100. It had severe overheating issues, although I've never seen quite that "solution" before, and I've had some pretty severe FrankenPCs myself... just never exposed fans and open blades like that. Woof.
(There WAS one pretty cool thing you could do with those cases, though, if you were even slightly skilled with electronics - putting different colored (or better yet, RGB controllable) LEDs at the top and bottom of the "bubble strips" created an amazing even cross-fade between the 2 colors as it moved between the ends. That was the only thing cool about them, though, as they were veritable ovens otherwise.)

Just sold an FX 8320 system with a ASUS Crosshair Formula-Z mobo (I think this was actually the top of the line mobo for the FX processors, or at least best for OCing), 2x8gb sticks of 1866 speed ram, Sapphire R9 290x, RM750x 80+ Gold PSU, in an Antec twelve hundred case for $500 CAD. Threw in a new 1TB HDD and fresh Windows 10 install and it was a nice clean system, still worked fine, and no problem selling it. FX isn't dead if you want something cheap. I mean the crustiest Ryzen 2200G system with 16gb of reasonably fast ram and the cheapest RX 570 card you can build in Canada right now will run ~$800, and I mean I wouldn't trust the dirt cheap mobo or the razor sharp edges of a $30 case. And the FX system still played games at more then usable FPS. If you are looking to play Battlefield V at 4K with 120FPS, you aren't looking to buy a used PC to begin with, let alone a $500 one.

Hey, as long as you only go up to a gtx 1070 at the absolute max (starts to hold back at 1060 levels, but there's a tiny bit of room for improvement in some games) you're at least staying above "playable" territory. I had an FX 8350 that I was using as a placeholder until I ordered my Ryzen 1700, and with my 1070 there honestly wasn't any game out there that I couldn't play. Obviously things play much better now, but they were never unplayable. Just make sure to overclock it as far as you safely can with voltages/temps in mind. The FX chips really benefit from that.

The FX 8350 vs 2500k battle is probably gonna go to the i5, the FX chips were/are so anemic for single threaded use compared to even the contemporary Intel chips..
I built a new PC in October (Ryzen 7 2700 & RX580), but I also upgraded my old PC to connect to my TV for light gaming use/file server. It had a Phenom II X6 1090T before but upgraded it to an FX-8350 as it (apparently) has lower power consumption at idle, plus it's only pushing an RX460 anyway(I might put the 580 in after my next GPU upgrade). However as I found out last night it'll need better cooling as it gets decent frame rates at high settings 1080p on Forza Horizon 4 but throttles like hell when it overheats.. If I can't solve the cooling issues (it's running on an Asus M5A88-M in a mATX case), eventually I'm just gonna dump the system for a Ryzen 3 or 5.

I just about gagged when I saw the inside of that Alienware. I used to repair PCs for friends and family, I saw that a lot from friends of family who smoked. Just the color of that dust brings back unhappy memories from machines I'd fix in the garage instead of my room. Could use a little cleaning is an understatement, the way that dust is just caked into things is disgusting.

Hey Timmy Joe. I just bought a new CPU (Rzyen 7 2700x) and a Prime B350 Plus and for some reason i cant get it to post. Already swapped Ram, GPU, reseated the CPU, changed PSU, checked all cables 3 times, cleared RTC Ram, took out the mobo battery. Then i gave up yesterday, rebuilt outside of my case and realized that there is no power on the USB hub either. Do you think my motherboard is dead? I literally have no clue anymore. I basically tried everything.
Ohh and there is a video on my channel showing it again. Dont mind the wierd PSU setup, i used the PSU from my old PC and didnt want to bother taking it out.

For the 680s, considering they only perform about 1050 performance, and I can get a similar power GTX 760 for about $50-$60 pretty easily... 680 is really old, I consider 600 series cards pretty much the oldest usable gpus in 2019, I'd say they'd be worth about $40 at most to me. Just doesn't make sense to spend more when you could do better with the 760.

That overpricing and underpowering that your local business is doing sounds a LOT like my own local computer repair/sales shop, only a lot less shady. The people who run the one local to me know how to run a business a little too well, and because of that they're the only shop in my town, even though the people running it have no idea what they're really doing. Then again, a lot of the customers around here are almost as clueless, so they don't realize they're getting ripped off. they sold a power supply worth maybe $40, from an unknown brand, for $85. I haven't purchased anything from them since my ryzen board and CPU, which they tried to sell me in a prebuilt for a similar percentage of overcharge.

Running an fx 4100****** that I personally built back in 2011. Been overclocked at 4.8 ghz the entire time. Game on it every day. I will admit it doesnt compare to alot of processors but paired with my current 1070 sc 3.0 it runs damn near everything I play on max settings. (World of tanks, gta5, etc..) gta does occasionally have a dropped frame here and there but running a solid overclock on an fx with a good cooler goes a long way. Also I've found that they do benefit from extra ram or atleast mine did. Didnt change brand or speed just expanded capacity.

I'll also add that i got muted on uk computer parts facebook page because some guy was selling a 1050Ti/8GB/i7 2700k system in a crappy old case for £550/$720... not as bad as some of these guys but i simply told him that it was overpriced and he should be looking more around £300-£400 for it(even though in my opinion it was worth less given the oem board that was clearly re-cased from a generic system) Then i added up the price of all the components on a uk 2nd hand parts website and it quoted something like £200... And then i got muted :( I really hate people that list their computers and over price them aiming the ad towards people that don't know what they are buying.

Since you DEFINITELY asked me in the first portion of the video. I've taken it upon myself to give my thoughts and pricing to everything in this video as soon as I saw the listings, prior to hearing your thoughts.
First Listing I probably would have priced it at like $400-$450 (USD). Really depends on what the i5 is. Giving it the benefit of the doubt I'd say it's an LGA1150 motherboard at the latest just because it has a USB3.0 connector.
Second Listing: Price depends a little on whether he was actually including the HDD, size of it and if it would have an OS. I'd say maaaaybe $310 (USD)
Third listing: Drop the 680 down to like $50-$70 (USD) each and then maybe. The added cost of a PSU that could actually run 2 680s for such little benefit at that point doesn't seem worth it at all. Why spend $100-$140 (USD) on SLI for some very old used cards when you could realistically spend around the same money on a used RX 580 and get better performance and a lower power bill.
Fourth listing: Please refer to my thoughts on the third listing.
Fifth listing: If that's just for the motherboard/CPU/RAM I'd say maybe $120-$150 (USD) If the I/O shield is actually included, anyway. Sure the FX is older and it's not the greatest and it eats a lot of power and the stock cooler sounds like a lawn mower. But for my suggested price range for the combo, it gets you a lot of performance for your money.
I do feel like the FX series is pretty much dead though as I'm trying to sell an FX-8320 with a Hyper212, 16GB of 1866MHZ RAM, 128GB SSD, 2TB HDD, GTX 780 Ti, 650W 80+ Bronze Rosewill PSU and game codes I never bothered redeeming (Like Dark Souls 3 and Metal Gear Solid V). Selling the whole thing for $425 and over 2 months I've only gotten two responses to my ads. So yeah, probably dead.
Sixth listing: As soon as I saw the pricing I saw the video just to say, "I don't know what he's offering, but I seriously doubt it competes with the Acer Thronos for $10,000." Now after seeing the specs, this guy definitely put a price on nostalgia. He also definitely didn't accidentally hit 8,000 instead of 8,000 since he says at the end of the ad "I paid almost 11k for this"
Seventh listing: I literally bought a nearly identical system spec wise for $100 because the guy had no idea what he was selling. Maybe he could get like $500-$600. There seems to be a trend where I live where people LOVE listing things through device manager. I find dozens of ads where they take a picture of Device Manager for their "specs" and then they leave EVERYTHING expanded except for the "processors" and "display adapters" so you have no idea what they're even using anyway.
Eighth listing: For $1,750 I expect an RTX 2080, Ryzen 7 2700X, 32GB of RAM, SSD with an OS for a boot drive, at least a 2TB HDD, 700W 80+ brand name PSU, tempered glass case with some RGB with some stellar cable management.
I'd say the computer is worth maybe $625-$700
Ninth listing: YOU LEAVE THAT ALONE, IT'S BEAUTIFUL JUST THE WAY IT IS!
Tenth listing: Did they tape a shroud onto an old graphics card?
Eleventh listing: CLEAN YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE YOU SELL IT! Seriously, it's not that hard. "VR Ready with minimum specs?" Well just about anything can be 'VR ready' with enough settings tweaks. If someone is actually considering paying you $600 for that, chances are they're not going to know how to do tweaks to actually get VR to run without making them want to puke. I'd say the computer is worth maybe $200. $250 if you clean the thing properly.
Twelfth listing: Why does he have a 1,000W Gold PSU for a "EVGA 960 8GB" and a Phenom x4. WHY?!!? Anyway, I'd say maybe the whole system is worth generously like $325. Mostly because of the PSU and the ultra rare 960 8GB if they're still in good condition. Again though, 1000W PSU... WHY?!?!
Thirteenth: $1600 for a computer without a graphics card? HOORAY.
Naturally the best looking computer that is actually clean is the one you built. The best part about the system though, is he still doesn't specify what i5 it is.

While I appreciate someone actually reading what I said to begin with, I'm not really sure which listing you are referring to.
First listing "Intel Core i5" Not specified. The only i5-6600k I could find actually included in listings in the video was the eighth listing, which I didn't suggest wasn't included.
The THIRTEENTH and final listing, the one I was referring to, which Timmy Joe says he built with an 8600K. If you look at the actual listing it says the following:
      "Silver Stone Case
      Core i5 cpu
Gigabyte z370 Aurus Gaming 7 Motherboard
      16gb T-Force RGB Ddr4 Ram
      240gb m.2
      1tb HDD
      Corsair liquid cooler
      Corsair Rm850x psu
      DOES NOT INCLUDE GRAPHICS CARD"
Timmy Joe telling us what the CPU is does not qualify as the seller including this information in his listing. It also means very little since the guy already took out the graphics card, who can say he didn't swap out that 8600k with an 8400, 8500 or regular 8600.

What new people getting into pc gaming think that its expensive is because they see these ads second-hand and prebuilts from ibuypower etc and assume it costs around 2-3k, in reality these are all overpriced. No pc should cost over 1k second-hand, unless it has the best cpu and gpu combo of that generation.
For reference a 9900k the most expensive consumer-grade cpu on the market is £500, mobo £150 at best, £50 for a 500gb SSD, £20 for a 1tb 7200rpm HDD, £100 for a case, £100 for a 1000w fully modular psu, £150 for 16Gb of 3000mhz ram and lastly £100 for an AIO cpu water cooler.
Currently £1170 not including the gpu.
    2080ti is £1100.
    Totalling at £2270
if your pc costs more than that, or around that with lower specs, sorry you're absolutely 100% getting ripped off.
This is a pc with the most expensive GPU and CPU on the market, the graphics card itself is a grand to the price.
My current pc is nowhere near those specs but pretty up there and doesnt cost over a grand, 16Gb of 2400mhz ram £100, 1tb HDD £20, Case £50, Ryzen 2700 + cpu cooler £200, 1060 6gb £250, 500w modular psu £50, mobo £50.
Total: £720 and thats BRAND NEW.
If i were to sell mine, because it is second-hand I'd probably cut 10% of the price off just because it IS second hand and the parts are not garunteed to work long-term for as long as they have worked for me. Of course, it's highly likely they will, but that's why we lower the price, because why would you buy something second-hand for the same price or more expensive when you can just buy, or build it yourself brand new?
If i were to sell my current pc based on the prices listed and discount because second-hand, I would sell it for around £650.
Bearing in mind that my processor is high enough quality that it is on par with the i9 9900k in terms of processors and logical cores, just not quite in terms of processing speed per core.

i wish you'd read better. He said he paid $11,000 for the stuff, so he's selling for $8,000. That's almost 30% discount, so not unreasonable pricing if something is max 2 years old. That said, if he paid $11,000 for this rig, somebody really, truly and extremely ripped him off. All of the shit put together seems like something I could get for sub $3000. The PC itself, maybe $750-1000. Idk, I wouldn't want to own any of that. But 30% discount on buying price isn't entirely unfair.
