    People that think any sort of structure is "railroading" blow my mind. Do they just show up with no prep work done to every session?

    What Online virtual platform do you use to run maps? I'm trying to make an online game for daggerheart to immerse my players while using dscryb for audio and ambiences.

    • @TheFantasyForge

      I use Inkarnate if I want to make them myself, or Dscryb because they have some really cool maps that are already made if you're in a hurry

    This seems all theater of the mind. Do you do any VTT? Maps and such?

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад

      Dscryb has some VTT integrations with Foundry, and they also have maps! But I use a combination of Dscryb and Inkarnate if I need to make my own maps

      I'm not sure that's something you can do right now, I think they might have mentioned they were working on that.
      They do have an integration with Foundry which is cool so I'm sure there's lots of ways to mess with it there.

    Is it possible to play these sounds through a program like discord?

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад

      I'm sure there's a way to do it, people are always making some crazy bots.
      But just from experience, what's cool is that you literally just share one link, and everyone can open the tab and then go right back to discord and listen in without having to stay on the tab.
      Obviously that means the DM is the one staying on the tab and doing all that, but it's still pretty seamless and I have had no issues and I run all my games through Discord!

    Railroading is the most misused term on RUclips dnd videos.
    Preparing stuff for your players is not railroading. Allowing them to overcome the challenges the way they choose is where player agency is at. Deciding which direction to go is minuscule compared to that.

  • @FoxTrick101
    @FoxTrick101 2 месяца назад +13

    Outlines not story. The people in the room write the story in real time. Prep is just your ideas to set up the group if they need a push forward.

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад +8

      I still consider my outlines part of the story. A rough draft. The players are the editors and the story might change but I still have a direction and a story I want to tell. I just may not know how it'll get to the end yet!

    • @023Whiplash

      I hate this take, i as a dm want to have fun too writing the story, the players make the details

    • @devourlordasmodeus
      @devourlordasmodeus 2 месяца назад +3

      The way I see it as long as you don't directly dictate the choices your players are allowed to make you're fine, as long as your players are doing what they want (even if what they want to do is exactly what you planned) then you aren't really railroading them.

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад +2

    15$ a month man. I love this idea but id pay at most 10$ a month tops. Unless dms are running paid games... This is just another monk sink dms have to invest in while the players get all the rewards. Been dming for 2 years now for 6 players and am probably a thousand if not more $ in debt and adding a monthly subscription of 15$ even for this is too much even for me.

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад +1

      Totally understand that. You should only invest in what you can, if this isn't for you then that's okay! I would say use what you've got!

  • @Mekhami
    @Mekhami 2 месяца назад

    well, here's another comment: you are railroading, your players have no say in the outcome of your game, and maybe that's fine for them, but it definitely is linear railroady gameplay.

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  2 месяца назад +2

      This is a big picture view, I've made other videos talking about how their choices literally change the outline, change my notes, make me change gears or completely abandon storylines. Until you play at my table, you honestly just don't know. Appreciate the comment!

    • @an8strengthkobold360
      @an8strengthkobold360 2 месяца назад +1

      There's a difference between a Linear game (see pretty much every module) and a railroad.
