    I have found through trial and error that sometimes a story within a story can be a fantastic plot hook. Having a piece of lore or legend in your world that all or most of the players know (maybe some believe and maybe some are skeptical) and starting them in that moment of discovery that it is real and right in front of them. Then allowing them to figure out this is just part of a bigger story can draw them in to need to discover the rest.

    The last part of the video made me realise that an “actor au/behind the scenes” clip would be funny, where Forge is a flame-headed actor speaking in front of a green screen. Every time he flubs a line, he looks off-screen and apologises to D&D monsters and the entire casts of Indiana Jones, Star Wars, the Hobbit, etc. who are supposed to come on next but keep getting delayed by his mess-ups. And they’re all like, “It’s cool man,” because at this point they’re a regular guest on his show. Meanwhile Forge’s long-suffering editor is the camera man.
    Idk these videos are great and I’m invested in this channel. Thanks for another great video!

    In my current campaign, a letter was sent to each player and it had an offer of adventure, fame, etc. But once signed the paper had a timer on it. In universe some characters signed it last minute having no prep time, other had weeks before the timer hit zero. Regardless when it did they all got teleported to a far away land, they were given a speech by a giant who ruled the land and they were all put in line and branded marking them a citizen. Soon after they find out they are on a series of floating islands connected by gigantic metal chains. Likely with no way back. I really liked that opening and I hope whenever I do another one I can make it as memorable.

    I like this a lot, because I think people miss the importance of storytelling hooks in DnD…
    But I think when people say hooks in the DnD context they mean providing incentives for players to investigate somewhere, or otherwise interact with some sort of world/plot element.

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  Месяц назад +1

      Yep! Agreed. I think its about making your players interested in your world and making them WANT to keep going

    3:43 I think this was an inside joke between the GMs, who each were quoting "Avatar: The Last Airbender" opening. Aabria and Matt opened with "Water. Earth." before that in there campaigns.

    Thanks for the video. I do struggle a bit what these bullet points mean combined. How could it look in a campaign? It feels still a bit too abstract for me, some help would be much appreciated ❤

    • @TheFantasyForge
      @TheFantasyForge  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah definitely! What's your campaign theme/story? For example if it's a necromancer rising, what if they witnessed the first rising? Or if it's about dragons, what if they see the first dragon to return in 1000 years. You can start in the action, make them care about some NPC's and make them witness something happen to someone they care. The necromancer takes an NPC or family member. The dragon destroys a home town. Anything the connects them to the story in a way that is done through action. Hope that helps
