Record got my siblings to go back into anime again. During the anime dry spell where everything became isekai garbage they stopped watching anime. This is what brought them back! Sad how it was badly animated but we still love it.

They have since gone on to be rather angry with Netflix for using them as a prop to make the show look better than it actually is IIRC.

I'm surprised that even with a mid animation, it was still quite successful. There were improvements in the second season, and I hope that for the fight from Budah onwards it will improve even more.
Record of Ragnarok the manga, got me to reading more mangas and the anime although not a masterpiece as people want it to be. It still makes me appreciate the fights and the characters even more. Sasaki Kojiro vs Poseidon, It wasn't my favourite fight out of all of the others but the anime got me to appreciate it more and moved me, Sasaki Kojiro even became my dad's favourite character.

The art style is pretty good, but I have too say the animation is bad, not gonna lie, but when next season comes out, I am 100% gonna watch it. I will say the anime looks quite a bit different from the manga, which is fine, it's not easy too animate panels as express-full like the Jack-the-reaper smile panel. I will say I like the manga more

Yeah, in for a good time because we're making fun of it. There are a few cool moments of animation like where Lubu cut the sky but thats it. Almost completely gets outweighed by the terrible animation and slideshows.

I feel the same way, animation wise, with Way of the Househusband (also a Netflix anime): the writing for the show is absolutely hilarious and really wholesome at times, but the animation is absolute shit to the point it made me stop watching. I’d argue it’s even worse than Record of Ragnorok because at least those characters somewhat moved and we’re animated, however little they were. Househusband literally felt like a slideshow presentation where character mouths moved and if they did move, it looked like a jpeg being dragged across a screen. When adapting a manga to animated format, you should at the VERY LEAST make sure the animation is good or decent. You don’t have to be Mappa or Trigger levels of animation, nobody should expect that level of quality all the time, but give us SOMETHING! It just feels lazy when they pull this shit with things like Househusband and Ragnorok.

I think it was fine. The anime could have been a bit better but it’s still good because record of ragnarok is awesome. It got people I know back into anime and got me into the manga. I look at it the same way as I do the anime of kengan ashura. It could be better but it’s good even with those flaws especially for people who haven’t read the manga, it’s also a good gateway for anime and getting into the manga itself. Most people don’t watch with such a critical eye, especially if they aren’t already heavily into the story or medium to start with.

Record of Ragnarok made the same mistake as the old DMC anime from 2007. The detail and quality of the art is good, REALLY GOOD. But what does that matter when it probably makes every scene a *nightmare* to animate. And give that they were probably on a tight schedule, resulted in them relying on camera tricks and stills to try and trick people into thinking the show's animation is better than it really is. Which, in a series where the *fights* are the main thing people look forward to, is REALLY BAD Now, granted, season 2 was better in this regard but I'm still mad that the animation was pretty lackluster for Adam vs Zeus.

The only thing in the show I absolutely hated in record of ragnarok is Goll. Her only purpose in the show is literally to be an excuse for exposition to be dropped and cry whenever somebody dies, I feel like she could be completely replaced or cut from the show entirely, and nothing would change.

Haven’t watched the anime, but read the manga. Think the whole thing was overhyped. Like, sure, the anime did it dirty. Looks like a freak’n slide show. But the manga itself doesn’t have enough actual story. It was a good read, but not something I’d not look back on afterwards. (Besides Jack and Hercules.) I get the criticism of people bringing up the “inaccuracies” in backstories, but in a way it’s actually important. The story is carried hard by those characters. But change those characters enough and they’re not themselves. It could still work with more story outside of the fights, and they try to do that with flashbacks, but it feels very disjointed. That said, I’m a fan of stories with tons of threads, following multiple characters during the same period of time (not backstory). Know plenty of people who find that sort of thing annoying to follow.
I don't get the problem with the animation tbh...... Every anime I've been watching seems to have some basic form if animation or one thats just considered it's "style" even Naruto didn't have like amazingly good animation well sometimes it depends on the scene and pains drips goes hard. I guess since there like "gods" people want more flashes and like colors and blood and stuff which I guess I can understand that. But to call the animation itself bad seems like a stretch, I think "Lackluster" as in missing something might be what people actually mean. The fights themselves do get kinda screwed by the background/storyline scenes they should REALLY maje ut mire distinct to where you can just skip the story scenese if you want to butbit dosen't interfere with like the "flow" of the fight.
Definitely record of Ragnarok is one of those big projects they could had have the rights of the next one punch man or attack on Titan but they ball dropped hard I'm 100% sure they could have cancelled alot of trash projects if money was an issue
Adaptation overall was mid. S1 was basically a slideshow. S2 however while not the best, did do a better job in the animation, especially Jack vs Heracles. But hey, at least the music was awesome. I give s1 a 5/10 and a 7/10 to s2.
Also it's weird complaining about the pacing comparing a person reading speed to speed requiring to adapt it. Like voice actors need time to read the lines. You can't them go chipmunks.

Pretty close to my thoughts. Art was great, but wasn’t especially a fan of the story. Tournament arcs are cool, but they’re cool as an arc.

The only thing in the show I absolutely hated in record of ragnarok is Goll. Her only purpose in the show is literally to be an excuse for exposition to be dropped and cry whenever somebody dies, I feel like she could be completely replaced or cut from the show entirely, and nothing would change.

I didn't care much for the story except for Jack the Ripper. Adam was also cool, but in general, I couldn't help but cringe because I knew most of the original backstories for characters.

Haven’t watched the anime, but read the manga. Think the whole thing was overhyped. Like, sure, the anime did it dirty. Looks like a freak’n slide show. But the manga itself doesn’t have enough actual story. It was a good read, but not something I’d not look back on afterwards. (Besides Jack and Hercules.)
I get the criticism of people bringing up the “inaccuracies” in backstories, but in a way it’s actually important. The story is carried hard by those characters. But change those characters enough and they’re not themselves. It could still work with more story outside of the fights, and they try to do that with flashbacks, but it feels very disjointed.
That said, I’m a fan of stories with tons of threads, following multiple characters during the same period of time (not backstory). Know plenty of people who find that sort of thing annoying to follow.

I don't get the problem with the animation tbh...... Every anime I've been watching seems to have some basic form if animation or one thats just considered it's "style" even Naruto didn't have like amazingly good animation well sometimes it depends on the scene and pains drips goes hard. I guess since there like "gods" people want more flashes and like colors and blood and stuff which I guess I can understand that. But to call the animation itself bad seems like a stretch, I think "Lackluster" as in missing something might be what people actually mean. The fights themselves do get kinda screwed by the background/storyline scenes they should REALLY maje ut mire distinct to where you can just skip the story scenese if you want to butbit dosen't interfere with like the "flow" of the fight.
Plus, flashbacks are a part of anime, even naruto and bleach and one piece does it so what is the problem or what is his point?
Definitely record of Ragnarok is one of those big projects they could had have the rights of the next one punch man or attack on Titan but they ball dropped hard I'm 100% sure they could have cancelled alot of trash projects if money was an issue

Adaptation overall was mid. S1 was basically a slideshow. S2 however while not the best, did do a better job in the animation, especially Jack vs Heracles.
But hey, at least the music was awesome.
I give s1 a 5/10 and a 7/10 to s2.
Also it's weird complaining about the pacing comparing a person reading speed to speed requiring to adapt it. Like voice actors need time to read the lines. You can't them go chipmunks.
