      And I don't know if any of you guys saw this video, but on Ermes' instagram, he has a video where he says "whenever I have a bad moment, I look at my bicep, and everything is fine." Then Coach Ray says: "Good moment." And Ermes repeats "yes, good moment". Alizhan referenced that video in the match when he said "today is a good moment" or whatever he said. lol

    I've been saying this forever. Devon is a foreigner to overall strength training outside his VERY limited arm wrestling specific training. He's never like it, he's never wanted to do it, and it's why he could never put on good weight. Devon has misunderstood the role of overall raw power in arm wrestling TWICE now. He admitted after the first loss he did not focus enough on getting stronger. This time around he focused on modest strength improvements on tiny forearm muscles that control the rise, cupping, and pronating. He's NEVER committed himself to the new paradigm in arm wrestling, where being big, huge, and powerful is the new direction of the sport. Did ANYONE think Devon had a chance when he sat down next to Levan and looked like a skinny teenager?

    • @jamesbondisamonkey
      @jamesbondisamonkey 28 дней назад +10

      That's accurate. He's just stubborn. A lot of older arm wrestlers who blindly follow just training on the table methodology could have been better as well, including Brzenk. It's so obvious that overall strength training contributes to arm wrestling training, and many of these guys are either too lazy or too dumb to understand it...kind of baffling at this point, but what can you do...they are who they are.

    • @benjaminyh6252

      Totally agree. To beat a beast like Levan, he needs to have overall functional strength to withstand Levan

    • @Day-ZDuke
      @Day-ZDuke 28 дней назад +7

      .....Devon is absolutely not a “foreigner” to overall strength training. He did plenty of it during his 20+ years in the military, many spent as elite special forces. He at some points could do over 1000 consecutive pushups, and has set Canadian military records for Ironman / triathlon competitions. Those feats require an overall base of strength and fitness, they are not super specific activities the way AW is.
      He just has never been into “bodybuilding”, or needing to have massive musculature. He needed functional strength. Have you seen images of a younger Devon? He looks like he’s carved outa stone, and could practically have been a fitness model
      Regardless of how Devon trained for the last 5 years, he would NEVER be able to compensate and overcome the 130+lbs weigh advantage Levan has. End of discussion. There are weight classes for a reason. It’s just that unfortunately there aren’t enough humans big enough to have more weight classes above 120kg, so there are massive discrepancies in size & strength sometimes

    • @Day-ZDuke
      @Day-ZDuke 28 дней назад +4

      Sorry for 2nd comment here, but it’s funny to me. You acting like Devon has no clue what he’s doing....yet he can beat every single other person in the world, besides a guy who is 120lbs+ bigger than him
      Go take any AWer you want, who embodies the type of training you claim Devon should be doing....are they beating other elite pullers who are 120lbs heavier? Is Janis beating Prudnik, or Kurdecha?

      Levan tried to regrip cause Larratt cheated in the setup as he usually does and started higher in the webbing, thus Levan could not hit from the get go. After the bad setup and the refs saying go when Levan wasn't happy with the setup and ready, Levan had to adjust, so he just held to Larratt to see what Larratt's got. After he saw how weak Larratt is and that he doesn't present any challenge, Levan simply decided to transition into a press and intentionally gave Larratt his wrist since he knew the weakling Larratt could not profit at all from that.

    It has always been obvious that overall strength contributes to arm wrestling strength...if you're pressing, bench matters, hip power matters in how much torque you can get when you explode sideways...just because some arm wrestlers hyper focus on what they want, doesn't make it the best way to train

This is why he defeated Ermes and Dennis, but not Levan and the same reason why Ermes is closer to Levan - his raw strength is way closer to Levan than Devon's.

    “Every single person who has a strong press, also has a strong bench press in the gym, too”
    I disagree with this. Opinions may differ, but Devons press is really good imo and (like you said) he does not have a strong bench press. Also, one of my teammates had a killer press (he’s press Chance Shaw and Pavlo, in competitons) and he doesn’t have a good bench press, either. In fact he never, ever benched; 100% of his pressing strength came from table time and pulling on bands. It is actually quite surprising imo.

  • @Steveavestrough
    @Steveavestrough 27 дней назад

    Let Ermes use that for his motivation . In competitive sports you will be disrespected . You can’t control other people and it will happen . Sharpen your mind , don’t get so easily offended by others . It’s nothing personal … even if it was how do you become a stronger person out of it just whining about it . That being said …
    Alizhan is turning out to be one of my favourite arm wrestlers .. the power and speed of his left hand is ridiculous . I’m curious to see how far he could go .

    Devon lost because he forgot everything he'd worked on in the last year and 10 months. After he fought Levan last time, he finally realized that pulling in a purely defensive way was NOT the answer, you HAVE to be able to attack and go forwards, which exactly what Devon had been doing, up until this match. Even in the first round, they were both just holding centre, yet Devon was still hanging off Levans arm, just waiting to go into the kings move, I knew it was lost then. Very disappointing...

    Ive spent a lot of time in sports, and at the end of the day, Size, weight matter. You have a 100 lb weight difference. If the bigger guy is actually not a complete panzy then he has a HUGE advantage. Technique can and often will level the playing field, as can conditioning, but in sports size matters.

    I love devon. I think he's smart in many ways...i do.. but it's a misstep to only train your arm. I imagine his actual rowing ability and chest fly ability is better than your average gym goer but i imagine it's quite weak. Levan just answered engins question about what devon needs in their most recent interview. He said devon needs more side pressure. He didn't even say bicep, he said shoulder. Levan was able to blow devon over and back because devon can't keep his arm within centerline of his body, you even see this as he loses. His body runs backwards and he relies solely on your arm.

    Doesn't sound resonable for me. (1) Ok, Devon decided to break former armrestling traditions that spertsmens are pollite, correct and respectful especially to opponents. Instead he intruduced his tradition: to use any whatsoever dirty and disgusting bulling before the match and, well, be respectfull again after the match. Should every sportsmen follow exactly this style? Probably not.
    (2) regarding Muratov - what is so special that he presented his handle? Many times athlets presented each other t-shorts, caps, tools, etc. The fact that Gasparini is sponsoring some handles production as well doesn't make any difference. Nothing is here to consider presenting handle as something specifically offending...
