@@angelnoyy I'm 32 and have knee pain because of bunions. My doctor has advised me not to sit in deep squats as it increases wear and tear of knees. You can do knee friendly workouts plus knee strengthening exercises. Also, wear knee braces. They are quite helpful in alleviating the pain.
@@angelnoyy I don't know if this is helpful: I had knee pain when running, the diagnosis was “irritation of the outer ligament tendons” of the knees. For a year and a half, I couldn't walk up and down stairs without pain, and sport was out of the question. When I started doing squats, I couldn't even bend my knees at a 90° angle. But after just a few weeks of careful practice, I got lower and lower and the knee pain gradually went away. After just two months, I was able to jogg again - without pain. And because I do the exercise practically every day - for one to three minutes - I still have no more problems with my knees. Meanwhile I can almost bend down to the floor. However, it was important that I always did the exercise very carefully, only as deeply as I could without pain. Various people have given the advice to go into mild pain - but in my experience this is not a good idea. A slight tension is okay, but the exercise shouldn't hurt at all. I guess that`s what fabulous "Strength Side" would also recommend.
Me too, I'm in my 50s and my current job is getting on my knees to change the printer paper on the floor, my younger coworkers do the same job by either bending over (I tried and almost fell over) and squats ( I tried them twice and thought I needed a Dr to get back up) .. funny thing is I was squatting and walking while squatting for hours and hours just a year ago. How quickly it can disappear in our 50s.. 😣

In Asian countries, we grew up using squat toilets. Back then, we loved reading novels or comics while squatting inside toilet. Sometimes, even after finishing our business, we would unknowingly keep reading for another half an hour! Families with sit-down toilets were considered wealthy, and we used to envy those who had them. However, after sit-down toilets became more common, people started experiencing constipation. Even though I haven’t squatted for over 20 years, I recently tried squatting for half an hour without feeling the slightest bit of fatigue. Perhaps that’s why Asians tend to have stronger calf muscles-just a guess! 😂
@ My calves developed better not from traditional gym exercises like calf raise and seated calf raise, but after I started practicing combat sports, where I noticed significant changes. I suspect the growth in calf muscles might be more related to endurance training
Here in India, it’s very normal to sit in resting squats. When ppl meet each other even for some chitchatting, they sit like that. Indian toilets are designed to sit this way so that the calves are pressed which clear bowels well. Yog even has a position called Malasan.
I fell off of my stretching routine because my life got hectic when my husband got sick. But prior to that I found you and you really opened up a world that had no idea existed, and you helped me with my chronic back pain And hip pain after given birth to my son. it really helped me. I didn’t realize how stretching would completely give me back the energy and flexibility and strength I needed.
As a chiropractor, I’ve been teaching patients to do this for 25 yr-didn’t realize how important until I got older! Stretching and strengthening those quads and hamstrings also are a great plus to strengthen joints🙌🏼

@@wardosravin For a lot of people it does though, it’s like how some people need their heels raised or feet on a wedge during barbell squats to go deeper. A lot of people just don’t have the ankle mobility to get into a squat with their feet flat to the ground.

I’ve been deep squatting for over 30 years and menopause has changed my ability to hold the position for a long time. I used to be able to hold for 15 minutes or more. Now it’s painful if I hold for 30 seconds not to mention feeling lightheaded when I stand. I need to find a woman going through menopause to help me 🙏🏾

My parents are from Indonesia, and I live in the Netherlands. For me, sitting like this is completely normal. I’m 58 years old and still do it. People often think it’s uncomfortable for me, but it really isn’t.
I've been sitting in the hero pose and W sit while on my phone, I totally forgot I was even in that pose and it felt great, way less stiffness and annoying knee bubbles.
One IMPORTANT!! Message for survival! If Your any part in legs have ever been injured, this is for You. Warning I had injured my knee three times! Most important: last one, was when I did this, but with sitting. Then You put all weight on joint, when muscles hols nothing, but that muscles is not yet strong enough to hold . And goes ways, loosens again. I couldn't walk for a...week? Then with stick. Injured, damage of it, a bit is for life, according to my Physio Guy. if You are not holding self close to heels, which is best, as an "engaged, tense gluteus maximus, all thigh muscles and knee, then the knee cannot wander or go somewhere 😂 Or get lost. Sh...t always hyperextending backwards the joing
This is the same excuse that squat toilet users give. Something like "it creates pressure and makes you go to the bathroom" .Apparently there's merit to it.
I DO BELIEVE THIS SO MUCH, THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE OF SOME HOUSE CHORES I ENDED UP IN THIS POSITION . AFTER I GOT UP I FELT BETTER AND I WAS WONDERING WHY MY BODY FELT SO STRECTHED AND RELIEVED. SOMETIMES WASHING SMALL OBJECTS I SET MY BODY LIKE THIS TO DO THE CHORES THIS POSITION ALLOWS MY LEGS TO FEEL BETTER, I DID NOT SET THIS WAY FOR TOO LONG OR NUMBNESS😂❤❤❤❤
I did like 10,000 squats lifting up my fall leaves and putting them in paper yard bags. Yeah, I couldn't sit for a week afterwards, but it's a great workout. I feel fortunate for my huge aged trees. They are keeping me young.
I still can't get Mt feet completely flat, my heels raise up, but 6 years ago I couldn't even get up from one squat.. now I can do between 12 and 26 and I haven't even seen practicing every day. I learnt them in kundalini yoga and I was shocked at the weakness in my hip flexor etc when I started. Everyone should build this strength.

I had issues and i included squats n stretches to strengthen my legs and THIS SAVED me. I m serious 😊
I try to do this nearly everyday or at least every time I go to the gym. It's so important! Make sure to consciously keep your chest up and heels on the floor with arms stretching out the knees

What's the solution when the squat for say 10 minutes, cuts off your circulation? Currently struggling with that

I'm From India And Me And all my Grandparents Sitting in This Position of Rest of his Life... It's an ancient sitting Posture ❤🎉
3 months ago I couldn’t do it, but now after every day squats… I’m better and more flexible…
I’m 28 and historically not athletic at all, though I started regularly doing HIIT and weightlifting à year ago. I’ve been getting fantastic results from doing deep, very slow Cossack squats and pigeon pose regularly. My ankle mobility still needs work, but my hip mobility is skyrocketing!
Perfect Timing. Especially After Shoveling Snow For 3+ Days. This + Ginger / Water + Continuous Movement. *Chefs Kiss*
It can also alleviate period cramps ❤
I watched some of your videos last night and tried it... This morning I feel a big change... Who knew???? Thank You!!!
Thank you guys for all your insight and efforts to help people live better!
I’ve been deep squatting for over 30 years and menopause has changed my ability to hold the position for a long time. I used to be able to hold for 15 minutes or more. Now it’s painful if I hold for 30 seconds not to mention feeling lightheaded when I stand.
I need to find a woman going through menopause to help me 🙏🏾
I'm from Poland and I've been resting in this position since I've been a kid, whenever I'm on a train or with friends out and there is nowhere to sit ill do this 😂 It's called Slavic Squat 😁
Called the Slavic squat. (Thank kemet)
I'm so pleased I'm doing these again.
AFTER A HIP REPLACEMENT. WOOHOO 🎉
I was wondering, just posted the question, if this is advisable? Did
you check with your doctor first?
I do 120kg weighted squats exactly like this. Tom Platz style is basically this squat position. My hip flexors are👌 My legs are👌 It just feels right! 😎💯
I'm female and I do this every day for years .. also regulates female hormones after menopause..nie I move in a squat ..primal moves .....
I'm 62 years old female and biological age 46..so...
Try watching this short while maintaining a deep squat ❤❤
Yup! It took me about a year but i forced myself to flat foot squat every chance i got. Now i can hangout in a resting squat for a long time. It's REALLY helped me feel better in general.
I forgot all about this.. since I was a attacked 3 years ago one of my left meniscus was completely shattered from this attack. Every step I'm taking is so painful even with some oxycodone helps a little man at the age of 73,143lbs and 5'4"what do all sorts exercise and some sports now so depressed from this attack and now this constant knee pain I can't do basic things anymore..l never had even a partial knee replacement. I'll drop things from my arthritis give me a reason to to bend and squat the pick things up. It's all exercise I say
idk if it’s because I had mild scoliosis but this squat has always been easy for me even after long periods of time not using it. It’s serene to know what we are blessed with at times
My 5yo had naturally done this since a baby. I legit found him squatting on the edge of the sink doing dishes lol. Amazing balance!
In Indian Ayurvedic philosophy this squat pose is called, "Malasana"
A very healthy yogic practice to improve gut health
I'm one of those many people! Proper deep squat is a true game changer
It is. I’m doing it for 2 months and huge difference since week 1. I do it pretty much daily. No more back pain, I can get in and out of my car easily, amazing leg strength in short period of time, and the list goes on and on 🎉 💪
@@smoklhoe oh wow 😦
glad to hear it!
I just know that when I’m able to do this again, my lower back and hips will pop like popcorn lmao THE RELIEF! I’ve been working on my hip flexors and other weak points and stretching consistently since December. Maybe I’ll get this by December 2025 or sooner! The comments are encouraging too.
Great for knee’s and Lower back ! I’ve been doing it for years!
This is Malāsana in Ashtānga yōga. Very beneficial ❤
Almost all non western countries have the squat toilet which helps with bowel movements and as a plus flexibility.
Plus it is so comfortable sit this way for me. I have had knee surgery and back injuries so I don’t take mobility for granted ❤
The Indian in me SCREAMED as soon as I saw the books touching your feet! 😂😂😂
P.S. Great content as always! ❤
Same 😢😢
How this western people can do that
Asian here... yup, same 😂
Tell me about it. I was going 'Please nooooo' in my head😂
Never heard of this, but I just did this on my first try. I’m squatting here now watching tv and it feels heavenly. All my lower back pain feeels sooo relieved
I’m going to start sitting this way on a regular lol
I mastered this sitting position two years ago, life changer
How has it changed your life
same here :)
My parents are from Indonesia, and I live in the Netherlands. For me, sitting like this is completely normal. I’m 58 years old and still do it. People often think it’s uncomfortable for me, but it really isn’t.
I've been sitting in the hero pose and W sit while on my phone, I totally forgot I was even in that pose and it felt great, way less stiffness and annoying knee bubbles.
nice work :)
One IMPORTANT!! Message for survival!
If Your any part in legs have ever been injured, this is for You.
Warning
I had injured my knee three times!
Most important: last one, was when I did this, but with sitting.
Then You put all weight on joint, when muscles hols nothing, but that muscles is not yet strong enough to hold .
And goes ways, loosens again.
I couldn't walk for a...week? Then with stick.
Injured, damage of it, a bit is for life, according to my Physio Guy.
if You are not holding self close to heels, which is best, as an "engaged, tense gluteus maximus, all thigh muscles and knee, then the knee cannot wander or go somewhere 😂
Or get lost.
Sh...t
always hyperextending backwards the joing
This is the same excuse that squat toilet users give. Something like "it creates pressure and makes you go to the bathroom" .Apparently there's merit to it.
I DO BELIEVE THIS SO MUCH, THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE OF SOME HOUSE CHORES I ENDED UP IN THIS POSITION . AFTER I GOT UP I FELT BETTER AND I WAS WONDERING WHY MY BODY FELT SO STRECTHED AND RELIEVED.
I CAME ACROSS THIS VIDEO AND NOW I REALISE.
Thank you so much for sharing This . 🙏🏽
Indians have figured this out and made indian comode ! Thanks for bringing this out !
This squat exercise has help me so much I had chronic pain in my hipskhees ankles back
Had tight muscles.
But I pushed on even when in pain ya 18 months on I'm free hey I'm 66 and train weights .
❤❤❤❤thank you
I know it s random BUT it s truth gus and plz pay attention:
If you have an issue with your " tool" in your legs BY DOING squats or stretches, you open the meridians that make the energy n the blood flow more into this place.
I had issues and i included squats n stretches to strengthen my legs and THIS SAVED me.
I m serious 😊
I try to do this nearly everyday or at least every time I go to the gym. It's so important! Make sure to consciously keep your chest up and heels on the floor with arms stretching out the knees
Love this. I'm Philippino squaring has been. A way of life. As I get older I notice my hips get stiff. This is my go to to maintain mobility
Resting squats also helps with easing menstrual cramps, if practised regularly.
I’ve been doing it every day after my workout. It literally has made a world of difference with my sciatica pain
My grandfathers dad who lived more than 100 years used to always sit in squat. That's the only position he used to sit doing his work, eating his meals all the time.
me and my husband sit like this since childhood. it's sooo good. ❤️🥰
It is called malasan in yoga
I agree!
Thought I'd try to see how much work I needed to put in to acheive this. I'm TOTALLY shocked that I could do it first try. I will be doing this daily to help with aches and pains.
Thanks for posting this ❤
TRUUUUUUUTH! Personal experience!!! Truth!!!
For us, it is so common. Only through internet i learnt that some people can't sit like this. This is baffling to me. I hope everyone achieve their goals of squatting this way.
Gratitude for your great help for us !
Thank you for these tips
I do this on a daily basis from many years.

To witness myself do this will be a great blessing 😊

Part of indian culture since ancient times. Glad , the rest of the world is adapting it finally ..
I am 80 , female, active. Have Bladder prolapse stage 4. I will start with the squats to see if they help with that condition!
Thank you 🙏 so many people try to give complicated stretches that involve having much more mobility to start from to be able to do full squats.
Philippines is the capital of the resting squat masters --- 😂😂😂😂
When I was little, my mom would sit like this and naturally, we did the same thing
First thing we don't use for books for such tasks and any other task that can disrespect them here in India, we use them only for reading and learning else they'll be in shelves and second thing when the bowel movements trigger we sit squat position for it and there are many other activities that involve squat position like for cleaning
Thanks for not just talking about it but also taking that little bit of extra time to teach how to reach this pose.
I’ve been Exercising and my body naturally started going into this motion and doing this, I’ve felt a lot better about my back pain.
Is it for Women as beneficial?
