    Okay I just bought it. I've been using Oxford Drum Gate recently and the Fabfilter one for years. They both destroy the sound regardless of the tweaking. I got better gating and a way more natural sound with the Silencer in about 5 seconds of using it. Awesome.

  • @oldguysplaymetal5517
    @oldguysplaymetal5517 Год назад

    Absolutely the best drum gate I've used so far. The bleed feature works even when you set the threshold low. Automating the "ghost feature" is easy but isn't always necessary because it reduces bleed so much even when you just set it and forget it. It has already saved me tons of time.

    I listened to it in my studio headphones and Im not sure Ive heard any gate quite like that before! It sounded super clean and crisp!

    Just purchased.
Honest „first reaction“ feedback

    1) I find it a bit counterintuitive. Neutron Gate , you throw it on a channel , raise the threshold and it immediately works like a Gate.
Silencer only works if I select a Preset?

2) Don`t know if it only in Mac environment with Live but in Live 11 and Ventura I don’t see a Bypass On-Off switch?

    3) If I deactivate the Plugin using Abletons button , when I reactivate it I need to choose a preset again cause even though its reactivated it seems to „forget“ what it was doing before Deactivate-Reactivate .

    Other than that it looks good

  • @svarogstudio

    Sounds pretty good. I'll have to test it against Slate drum gate, it seems to be doing basically the same thing, but with Slate you have to manually set filters to target different drums.

    Okay, this is wicked cool. I've been doing stuff with a combination of MDrumLeveler and poltergate and I still can't get these kinds of results and there's sometimes a weird "sucking" sound on the snare with how the HH comes in at the worst moment. Silencer is definitely going to be a keeper and I smiled all throughout the video since this will make my life easier.
    Thank you Chris!!! :)

    Smart Gate blows this out of the water! To each their own but I don’t know why I would need this with Smart Gate and Oxford Drum Gate available. Particularly Smart Gate. I’ve never used gates so much since the release of Smart Gate it’s phenomenal!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Год назад +2

      I have SG also, and it's for sure a very good Gate, and works on more sources than drums, but not in the same price range. It's actually a very good Vocal Gate I have to say. But for drums, and to be honest, Silencer is super fast to get what I want...SG doesn't give me such a clean result unless I start dialing in the settings to find the sweet spot, and even then, I still don't get as full of a snare sound with SG. But yes, like you say, if you already have SG, and ODG, you probably don't need anything else.

    • @mrcoatsworth429
      @mrcoatsworth429 Год назад +1

      I haven't used Smart Gate myself, but Silencer is definitely more up my alley, because it is so simple. Smart Gate has sooo many features that I just don't need. I love that Silencer is just three knobs and that's it. It does what I need it to do perfectly within seconds. And again, I don't know Smart Gate well (just from a few videos), but it doesn't seem to gate the snare as cleanly as Silencer. If it can, I'd need way longer to set it just right, and that's just not what I want to spend my time on. I'm sure it does many other things really well, but Silencer is what I've been looking for.

    • @mister_xenomorph
      @mister_xenomorph Год назад +1

      Yeah, not really a fair comparison since they're in waaay different price brackets. Silencer is way better bang for your buck imo, particularly for getting great results immediately.

  • @matthewdiascro9209
    @matthewdiascro9209 Год назад +1

    Amazing results. Chris - you mentioned that you had already done some eq and compression on the individual drum tracks before applying the gate plug-in. What are the trade offs of that approach vice using this gate first in the processing chain and then doing eq and compression? Thanks!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Год назад +3

      I put the gate after processing to test it out and push it hard for this video. I usually gate my drums before processing :-)

    • @klienk8237
      @klienk8237 Год назад

      If you EQ before gate, you give the gate an easier time picking out the frequencies you want to allow. The compressor before the gate then makes it harder for the gate. With very badly recorded drums, gates need some help.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Год назад

      I actually never tried Drum Leveler. Silencer focuses on doing one thing, and it does amazingly well, and way cheaper than DL, which I assume DL can do more stuff. I would say, try the Silencer Demo, and let me know how it goes :-)
